You've gotta be close now, eh?

I like the idea of playing 200BB deep, but not many sites offer it.

Oh, and
.25/.50 200BB doesn't play like .5/1 100BB since the BB dictates PFR size, which in turn sets up very different SPRs on the flop.

200BB deep scares me cause all I really know is 100BB or less.

funny - all i really know is 100BB or more. I'm pretty comfortable against 20bb shortstacks. On the 200bb deep tables there's only one player I'm concerned about - DrGameTheory, he's causing 2+2 angst and seems to understand deep loose-passive play pretty well. I haven't seen him stacked yet, and he tends to be sitting around 400-600bb deep most of the time. I think he's donating me money ever so slightly, but mostly cos he folds. We've only shown down on a river bet once I think, and he won - but it was after we both checked the turn.

A recent thought - I think learning a solid 60bb game would be +++EV up to 200nl (+?)

ps some horror calls and a nasty badbeat 270bb deep last night weren't compensated for by being on the right end of straight flush > quads (no bad beat jackpot in sight...). Bummer.

Was a net -$40 session and may have inspired a reversion to PT2 + HUD. Software and/or connection problems tilt me no end - and I'm sick of being a beta tester for free. I'd offer them my dev services, but working as a volunteer has its time and place - and this isn't it.

I'm missing being able to review hand histories. Apparently my PT3 data base is corrupted. meh.

I finally got my PT3 working for the first time yesterday and imported 60k hands. I do not like the built in HUD. I was playing a small SnG and tried it on and I just could not incorporate it into my game. I like the stats that you can view within PT3... but no thanks to HUDs.

The build in HUD is way better after you strip down the stupid labels on each box, and trim it down to a single line, instead of the default multi-line. The popup stats are better, and the fact that you can move around the stats with right-click drag is awesome IMO.

Other than that and 3-betting stats, it's basically the same as PAHud.

Why do you hate information?

I loved that hand. It's rare enough you find a fullstack 52/12, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to tangle with one.

I had him on AK/AQ, 66-QQ. AA/KK probably 3-bets preflop. I woulda never played it like this vs anyone resembling a TAG fer sure.

...and the heater continues. The last 5 days:

DONKS ARE EVERYWHERE!

I remember being a micro player scared of the low-midstakes cause surely up there, everyone is a thinking, tagg preying on the one or two fish you might find at a table.

Very glad to find out how wrong I was Smile

I often wonder how much my laggy preflop style is actually worth in image building. It's hard to measure. I do it under the assumption that the donks who are only playing a table or two will notice when I'm running over the table playing 30/30 over 3 rotations, c-betting every pot where I preflop raised...then eventually pick terrible spots to 'play back at me'.

Maybe this was one of those times, maybe he was coming off of a 2 day coke binge and said "FUCK IT", who knows? But I appreciate the donation to the "d0zer crack 10k fund" at any rate...

One thing I've found that really helps is when you're trying to flop a set, clench your anus really tight like you're holding in a big log, and kinda release a low guttural uhhhhnnnnngh until the flop comes.

Also, make sure your KK>AA. Losing with kings to aces hurts the BR.

Update: I fucking suck. Losing a BI everytime I play, blah blah blah cry cry cry etc...

I took $600 out for a PC upgrade, and ever since that I'm jinxed. I'm going to burn some rosemary and sage tonight in hopes of appeasing the poker gods. If that fails I'm pulling out my BR, blowing it all on blow and whores, and going out in a blaze of glory.

Read this on 2p2 & it reminded me of the above post:
(an email from "Schwallie" to Stars, posted by Scottyy)

I would just like to request that you end my downswing. It was probably a cute office joke, like "hey, let's watch this kid drop $XX,000 and see if he will go crazy." Well it was cute for a while, and I didn't go crazy, but it's time to end it. It was also obvious you enacted the doomswitch DIRECTLY after I cashed out XXk, so that is obviously to teach me my lesson of not cashing out anymore. I am just requesting that we all just let me run normal and start beating the games once again, kthx.

I guess cashing out = immediate doomswitch. Razz

Okie. Lost a lot, but am still barely rolled for 200NL.

Admission: I forgot a lot of things, went on auto-pilot, wasn't thinking a whole lot etc, and that contributed to this downswing.

Things I've re-leared (often for the 3rd or 4th time):

Don't wildly alter your play without a good read. 20 hands is not a good read.

Think HARD about a villain's postflop range. Check all the stats you can before formulating a plan. I started keeping call PFR%, cbet%, attempt to steal% on my HUD, as well as preflop 3bet% and call 3bet% on the detailed stats. Postflop stats help a lot vs looser players especially.

Save fancy plays for when you have a good read.

Don't bluff / c-bet stations

..
.

Don't pay off NITs
Don't pay off NITs

I had a breakeven session last night that I felt good about. I was thinking deeper about the game than I have been recently, so that's encouraging.

More working on my game. c-betting more intelligently now as opposed to just by default. Sometimes playing back at the looser, tricker regs in what I feel are good spots when I have good reads. But mostly playing a slightly tighter game.

Hitting some big hands, but just not getting paid at all. S'ok, patience'll pay off. I'm just happy that my game's made improvements.

Here's my FT graph this month, including a +5BI short 100NL heater. I played a few k hands or so at Ongame earlier in the month, but have since pulled all my BR off and have it all at FT now. I started working on my game more around 7.5k hands, and look what happened to won w/o showdown. Small sample, but encouraging Smile

Are you still taking stabs at 200nl?

just over 90% of that graph is 200NL. There's like 800 hands of 100NL FR and 100 hands of 100NL HU in that graph.

I'm now running 3ptbb/100 over my first 9k hands at 200NL, and have a 1k buffer before I gots to move back down. All & all, the move up has been relatively successful, even if I've spent more money than I perhaps needed to for learning purposes Wink

Very Happy

If I stick at 400NL before you I'm gunna punch you square in the balls.

I'm in no hurry to get there. I'm quite content at 200NL. It's fun playing with bigger dolla values. As a micro player I always viewed 200NL as 'being there'. Whatever that means. Now I got my eyes set on 1kNL.

Update:

Built my new PC. It's awesome. 22" widescreen + 20" widescreen. Core2 duo 3ghz, 4 gigs of ram. Sexy

So now I'm 15 tabling. 9 tables on one screen, 6 on the other, leaving me enough room for pokerstove open on the remaining desktop space Smile

I've been basically breaking even over my last 14k hands. I played more hands this weekend than I ever have in a 2 day period. Like 8k hands or something crazy like that. I lost a bit. Had the worst sessions of my life. Saturday I lost $1k. I don't think I"m playing terribly either. I flop top set on a monotone board and a loose villain flops nut flush and slowplays me. Crap like that over and over + KK < AA + suckouts etc...

Made up for it a bit on sunday, but am still running 'meh. At least I haven't had to move back down yet. I'm sitting at 5.3k. My first 20k hands have me at 1ptbb/100. bah!

I'm tightening up some both preflop and postflop lately and I think it's been working for me. c-betting a little less, raising junk from LP with limpers a little less.

I trudge on and my game keeps making marginal improvements...

Hi dozer!

Weren't you playing on Ongame before? If so why did you changed to FullTilt? Do you prefer the games there?
I'm giving a shot at 200NL for the moment and I mostly play Ongame but lately the games there at this level have become a Nitnest during the week, except for the loose 50/7 once in a while.

Thanks!

I bailed on Ongame for a few reasons, not all of them good ones.

1) I found there wasn't THAT much traffic at 200NL FR, and what there was, wasn't any fishier than 200NL at FT with table selection.

2) No traffic when I usually play (night EST)

3) No PT3 HUD support yet, and I really like PT3's HUD.

4) Ongame's software sucks compared to ft's. Sit out to rebuy? wtf?

The cooler continues. I've had set over set against me 3 times in the last 2k hands (wtf?) a couple KK<AA, etc...

Lost 4BIs last night. Lost two 'legitimately', then tilted off two on some marginal pushes.

BR: 4400 and I move back down. Sigh.

Ok, normally when I type LOl I'm just flattering the poster, but this time I actually laughed out loud and the guy in the cubicle next to me asked what was so funny... nice post.

Since I apparently suck at poker, maybe an alternative hobby in blogging is something I should pursue Question

June kinda sucked. It brought me near orgasm and left me with a nagging blueballs that only got worse as the month progressed.

I do have $600 RB + a few goodies for myself with points tho to look forward to.

I'm pulling a bunch of my BR, starting fresh at stars! yes you heard me. Aiming for supernova by year's end grinding the eff outta 100NL and hopefully 200NL by year's end.

Hmm, looks like your showdown wins were break even over the last 27k hands or so, with steady losses in non-showdown hands.

I dunno what that means about your game, but I guess its something to look into.

Not bad. 5k hands of 100NL 6-max + a 2nd in a $12/180 = about $600 profit and 4k VPPs during double VPP week.

I gotta start a new operation since I'm not really playing FR anymore. Next operation: own EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE.
