- New computer
- Two 21.5 inch widescreen monitors
- Peanut butter sandwhich
[x]Paid for with poker monies.
This should serve me well through small stakes. Will upgrade the mouse and get a new desk in a couple months or so. The keyboard that came with the computer tilts the shit out of me so I'll be going to get a new one at the store soon when I go pick out some speakers.
Here's another shot where the work area isn't so messy looking:
If it weren't for you guys I wouldn't have this. |

You can have one or the other but not both.

Probably won't be long before you can make withdrawals and still be well rolled for your stakes.
6max is gravy. Full ring is for homosexuals and robots, and people who just need to pay their bills in a very serious monotonous manner.

Machine is an HP loaded with a AMD Phenom 8450 triple-core processor (2.1ghz), 6 gigs of ramage, 64-bit OS, 640 gig hd, NVIDIA graphics card...dunno if I missed anything else noteworthy.
I love the map on the desk. I'm might not even get a new desk like I said I would. Even though it's dated it's in good shape, has good storage etc. It get's the job done. Right now I have my eye on east/central USA, tons of fish there. |

New rule while grinding:
I will always time-bank when facing a river check-raise when I do not hold the nuts before making my decision, even if it is already made. |

Sticky note posted on right monitor for today's sessions.
Goals for today's sessions:
-Wait at least 3 seconds when facing a non-trivial decision, particularly a river raise. The timebank is there so I might as well make a +EV use out of it.
-Break at 2 hour mark, no dragging the session out longer even if there is a megafish at the table. There will always be one around.
-Think...seriously, sometimes I just act on a whim, though this usually has to do with me playing tired/bored so I'm going to make it a priority to end my sessions on time.
That is all. |

Goal Tree Ramble
Time for a big fuckin' personal rant, tldr; there will probably be tons of random shit in here because I'm overtired.
I find myself progressing at a more accelerated pace now. I have many theories for this, though I think I've already explained them so forget about that.
1. Get to 100nl ASAP
-1a) Study ass off. No I'm not talking about reading half an article a day, I'm talking about reading/thinking/applying theory, running some maths, running some hypothetical maths, asking why, more hypothetical stuff, fuck around with stove, fuck around with my pencil and paper, fuck around by just laying down and thinking about things. watch a video or two. Simplify things. Poker is simple at its core - in that when we make fewer mistakes than our opponents and turn a profit - figure out how to make fewer fundamental mistakes - think about those ranges, own people who's ranges are face up, own people who are fooled by your image, own people who aren't paying attention, etc.
-1b) Elimate spew: pay attention, 4ish tables, pick of those timing tells. Relax, breathe, etc. Making the right decision translates into fun. Make good decisions = have fun. Having fun does not = making money. DUCY? Keep going to the gym, get more powerful. (Not so much physically, but getting there) I say more powerful because I consider myself powerful now. Confidence is key, don't forget everone else sucks, no need to do stupid things like bad plays that only sucky players do. (lol @ using the word sucky). There are no good regs here, they are all ridiculously exploitable. Pay attention, don't fall into the trap of 'going for Rostucko' (search 2+2 for def'), do what's in your best interest for your expectation in the wars, money comes later. It isn't a battle anyway.
-1c) NO MORE CHECKING PTFING3 WHILE PLAYING A SESSION EVER EVER EVER EVER AGAIN NEVER EVER I WILL SEND THE FIRST PERSON TO REPLY ITT $1 EVERY TIME I DO THIS.
2. Learn how to meditate
-2a) Search up some stuff on Google, print out, read, practice etc.
-2b) Set up some sort of schedule where I do it at least once a week, see how it goes, and consider making it part of my routine.
3. GET SOME SHIT DONE NEXT WEEK FFS
-3a) Get to sleep earlier/on time
-3b) Try to cut back on unecessary blocks of wasted time (i.e. 15 min here or there doing random shit, jerking off, msn, facebook, whatever)
4. Balance: Eat/Sleep/Poker/Workout/Relationships/Leisure (and anything else I forgot)
I will do everything in my power to get better at life and poker. Oh and cut back on the cheeseburgers and pizza ffs.
I love you Ashley.
If my goals don't make sense lemme know...peace guys.
I'm dead fucking serious about the $1 thing, I'll keep a checklist of how many times I do it and send you a weekly payment. What's great about this is I DON'T FUCKING LOSE SO YOU AIN'T GETTING FREE MONIES BAHAHAHAHA. |

IN FOR THE DOLLARZ.
And you run so good at microstakes it makes me sick:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.05 BB (4 handed) - Poker-Stars Replayer from Poker Hands Replayer
saw flop | saw showdown
Button ($5)
Hero (SB) ($5)
BB ($5)
UTG ($5)
Preflop: Hero is SB with A , J
1 fold, Button bets $5 (All-In), Hero calls $4.98 (All-In), BB calls $4.95 (All-In)
Flop: ($15) 5 , 3 , 2 (3 players, 3 all-in)
Turn: ($15) 6 (3 players, 3 all-in)
River: ($15) A (3 players, 3 all-in)
Total pot: $15 | Rake: $0.75
Results:
Button had 9 , K (high card, Ace).
Hero had A , J (one pair, Aces).
BB had 6 , 6 (three of a kind, sixes).
Outcome: BB won $14.25
And I'm with you with the studying thing. I seriously need to study more...I'm slacking. I feel like I can do much better...if I play less. Yup, if I play less. I need to analyze situations that give me trouble, I need to analyze common situations, I need to analyze period.
As for meditation, start yoga. Dead serious. It's meditation and then some. Your body and mind will feel pretty damn amazing. I recommend it (again). Don't NOT do it because you don't think it's manly (not saying that to you specifically, but I know a lot of people that refuse to try it for that reason). Again, yoga.
Also, we really should be sleeping whenever we have nothing else productive to do. There's no need for me to stay on IRC sometimes and even play the stupid IRC cash games. If there's nothing productive to do, bed should be beneath you. With so much on our plate, we're cheating ourselves by not going to sleep and waking up early the next day to be productive.
I can relate to a lot of these ideas...
...me, you, and Ashley. What do you say? |

+ 1 on get your arse to yoga.
That's one of the things I'm most looking forward to when i get back to NZ - my favourite yoga teacher ever is living in the city I will be living in, and he has a great studio there.
Also, get a block of hands together for discussion etc.
And win $$$. |

Not doing yoga specifically due to ego = weak. Thus, I'll be looking into it. I laugh at haters.

I agree with this and it's something I'm going to be focusing on next week when my schedule is back. Going to bed early is never really -EV. 50nl 6max is just so easy, there's really no excuse to not completely destroy the competition. I feel I am knowledgeable enough to beat the game at a decent rate, now it's just a matter of getting my body in the right frame of mind at all times, as well as not slacking off on studying/improving.

I actually have a few hands that were played vs some regulars that could use another set of eyes. One of them involves me c/r'ing the river vs some really aggro guy and I think my sizing was bad. I'll hit you up in IRC to go over some things when you have a moment. |

In other news I have lots of time this week to grind/study/review etc.
This means there is a signicant chance I will be taking shots at 100nl next weekend, if I get enough accomlpished before then. |

Thanks guys.
Soooo I'm up about 17 buyins over 7500 hands at 50nl 6max...this is the sickest heater ever. I'm trying to brace myself for the doomswitch, though I just keep getting people to spew to me :/, it's weird. Hopefully I will get the total hands up to 15000 at least by the end of the week, though given I only 4 table right now, I don't think that's going to happen. |

Bleh...stress levels are starting to elevate again. I'm in a long-distance relationship and my gf has been super busy with school lately so I don't really get to see her much. I doubt I'll even get her alone this weekend, and jerking off just doesn't cut it anymore - OKAY ENOUGH OF MY PERSONAL LIFE, moving on:
Decided to play a 100nl session today after being dumped another boat load of money at 50nl, lol. I played pretty well, got into a few marginal spots (no more 3betting junk oop w/o reads kthx). It's funny how the reg's I ran into give 0 respect to 3bets. Just 'cause I have such a high vpip/pfr doesn't mean I have air when I re-raise! Okay maybe it does lfdo but whatever. Actually I shouldn't even say that about 'respect my 3bets' because they ended up just having hands. Common thoughts when people move up I notice is they always think people are targeting them and playing back at them every chance they have - this is not the case, it's just dellusion.
OK on to tomorrows plan:
-watch at least one video
-read a few articles
-intense workout day (chest+back+core ooooo fuckkk yaaa)
-maybe hit up the driving range, I've been stuck indoors alot lately and it may be getting to me a bit. I haven't hit a golf ball since I began working out so seeing any potential distance gains (or losses :/) should be interesting.
Anyway, I'll see how the week unfolds and will consider playing more 100nl. I just need to make sure I'm in the right frame of mind. My plan is not to fuck up this time when I move up - thankfully I'm aware of the past. Will be grinding it this weekend for sure, not doing so is just retarded with my bankroll.
Peace guys. |

np sasquach.
So quick update, life things are good - had a few minor issues come up that I somehow managed to sorted out really fast and effectively so thats a huge win. I think I'll play 50nl tonight and reserve some 100nl action for the weekend warriors. |

Okay so here's the deal for tomorrow:
-Wake up early/drive Mom into work so I can take the car for the day because I am not yet baller enough to own a car.
-Workout: shoulders+triceps+cardio(maybe, I still can't seem to get into the cardio thing)
-Watch 1 video, read a couple articles.
-Poker: 50nl 6max in the early part of the day, depending on how things go, I'll consider playing 100nl later on.
-Chill with my gf for the evening since she's back for a few days (sweet)
-do something marginally productive before bed (i.e. short session, read an article, watch some of a video etc)
/day
Gl to all you guys grinding this weekend, I won't be updating this blog until Sunday night becuase I'll be focusing on other things and won't be worrying about updating with results and shit until the grind is done.

20 buy-in heater followed by a 9 buy-in cooler, all within about 11k hands.
I gotta stop being so curazy
I had one major spew hand today - not bad for 1 in 11k hands...I somehow convinced myself it would be a good idea to stackoff with AQ preflop sb-vs-bu. Then I had roughly 1.5 buyins stationed off to idiots, fml.
I had the shittiest day ever though, I shoulnd't have been playing. |

Oh and something interesting I noticed at 6max is people actually c/r the river.
I think I've been c/r'd on the river 2-3 times over a couple hundred k hands at full ring, not kidding. Perhaps I'm just vbetting thinner these days..
So thought for tomorrow: BEFORE you click the mouse to make a decision, you MUST KNOW AHEAD OF TIME what your action will be when faced with resistance. Anticipation is key, if you think bet/fold is the best line to take, then MAKE A PLAN TO BET/FOLD. Don't just click buttons and then act on a whim when faced with an 'unexpected decision'. Unexpected decisions should NOT exist, and there's absolutely no fucking excuse for this. If impulsive, ego driven, curious actions are coming before planning and anticipation, it's time to shut it down. It's OK to re-evaluate based on some sort of read (i.e. timing/sizing tell), however, this should be incorporated into the original plan anyway, and thus, our emotions shouldn't get in the way of swaying that fold into a call. |

Hero (Button) ($124.15)
SB ($91.90)
BB ($102.45)
Preflop: Hero is Button with A , 6
2 folds, Hero bets $3, SB calls $2.50, BB calls $2
Flop: ($9) J , 5 , 2 (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks
Turn: ($9) A (3 players)
SB checks, BB bets $6, Hero calls $6, 1 fold
River: ($21) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $8, BB raises $42, Hero calls $34
Total pot: $105

I stopped the session shortly after. |

I'm just sayin...I've never been c/r'd on the river, and if I was, teh inherent dynamic of the format would almost always necessitate a snapfold. |

It's pretty much a snap fold no matter what... but it's tilting because I pretty much never c/r the river myself unless my opponent's bet size screams "I'm bluffing!" and I don't beat a bluff. (that happens more often than you'd think, I see rivers with air a lot )
Should we be c/ring rivers? Maybe when we have nutish hands on scary boards vs. opponents who are capable of bluffing scare cards. Even then, since it's a scary board we can expect to get called by opponents who bluff scare cards. I can't really think of a good example, but it can't be a completely useless play. Maybe there's a situation where we are polarized but our opponent doesn't really know that so he bluffs the river on a scary board anyway, and we just c/r our entire range. |

| I'm too tilted to play after now busting out of the 100k tourney as an 80% fav so I think I'm just going to study for the rest of the night before I meet up with my gf. |

Hi mate.
Been watching your OP with much interest. Congrats on the new setup - must feel great to have bought that from poker winnings.
If I stop being a lazyass and start dedicating myself to improvement, would appreciate any thoughts you have on my OP in the future.. |

| Do you play only on Stars? How far away does your gf live? I'm at 50NL 6max in a long distance relationship. Basically we're in the same boat but you make money. Good luck with everything man. |

Yeah I play on only Stars, I'm grinding 50nl FR for the next couple days and will be playing more 50nl 6max later in the week.
My gf is living 2 hours away. She works + goes to school so it's pretty tough to get together with her. We get to talk everyday though so I am thankful for that. I'm starting to get used to not seeing her as often as I would like to, and I think it's going to give me the drive to start getting my shit together with poker and stop autopiloting, start putting in more effort, and start moving up.
What about you, how far is your girl? How often do you guys see each other etc? PM me if you wanna chat about life/poker etc, I'd be glad to swap HH's, do some session reviews, discuss theory, and of course other non technical aspects of this beast.
So anyway I recently just had a 13 buyin downswing but have realized the cause and am in the process of recovery - yeah it was a cooler, but yeah I should have saved at least a few buyins. Autopiloting is tilt - I fucking autopiloted 50nl for 50k+ hands no wonder my lifetime win rate is nothing but shit. Sure I may make some small coin, but I have literally passed up the opportunity to make alot more simply because of my lack of respect for really needing to think carefully through every decision made. Whenever I stop thinking about my opponents ranges, I start losing.
My game has opened up alot though, so I'm still working out alot of the kinks. Mostly just finding different spots to barrel or c/r, but nontheless, new situations to learn from. My awareness of game flow seems to be improving as well, I think this comes from changing up my sessions from FR-6max and so on. |

Yes! Autopiloting is 100% just subdued tilt. It's like tilt for pussies that don't want to asplode display the symptoms of conventional tilt as we know it.
I've been realising this myself lately as well, like this exact thing. As a result I've decided not to 6 table unless I'm defo 100% focussed. Maybe reducing the amount of tables tempoairly can help you to get back into manual greatness and out of auto donkness. Just until manual becomes automatic; bit of a paradox, but it makes sense. |

I agree with autopiloting leading to losses and downswings. I also agree that, once I stop thinking in ranges, all is lost and I shouldn't be playing poker anymore.
I was having trouble starting sessions and diving right into thinking in ranges. Something that has helped me was reviewing a few hands from the previous session (with villain's cards face-down) and creating ranges for villain. Two or three hands playing with that and PokerStove and I feel comfortable enough to start a session. Just an idea. |
