Blah I really really suck at cash games. I think I'm just going to study for like a week or whatever before even stepping foot at the tables again. It's ridiculous.

hand 1: calling the turn is best by far. We have a shitty image, TP, FD and are in position. Call turn and let villain bluff into you again on the river.

hand 2: I would usually just check behind turn here but i dont hate 3 barrelling. Villain definitly has 8x or a FD and FD seems more likely. If he is a showdown muppet then im not continuing without improving after the flop.

Thank you very much bode. Villain folds in both hands.

I thought I'd give my thoughts on why I think I am sucking. This probably won't be well written in anyway but I'll just write what is on my mind.

So yeah I think I do horrible in my medium pots, the pots where basically I cbet, get called and I have nothing or medium pair or something less than TPTK. I cbet basically air, made hands TP+/monsters or huge draws. Once I get called I feel as if I have to shutdown if I cbet air because I have nothing and they usually don't fold and will take their horrible hands to showdown. I feel like some definitely float me by calling my cbets and then betting like 1/5 pot or something really small and I fold with air and call down with like mid pair or something that loses a lot. I also feel lost when I get like minraised and I hold either TPGK or an overpair and whenever I continue with it I am sure enough beat. I played a maniac today who showed every hand even if it did not go to showdown and raised every hand preflop, called any raise preflop blah blah blah and I would basically have to keep folding when I didn't hit top pair because the one time I did hit second pair he just kept betting like he always does and I lose. I tried to isolate him when I had something good preflop but I miss and he takes down the pot. Maybe I don't go to showdown enough but it seems as if everytime I do I just lose to this type of player. The looser games seem like a great place to play but once you try to play more hands by raising their limps and stuff it's just remarkable how little cbetting works. And of course if I'm OOP and check they just bet at the flop. I'm usually in position but there are definitely times I feel a raise is permitted OOP when I hold like AK but then the board sucks. I have been told to just look at a bunch of hands in PT from the past but I feel as if my ranges are always flawed. I perform well in tournaments though because it seems as if no one really floats and it's that easy but I can't really stand the long hours of playing and then getting sucked out for you to lose on the bubble and stuff like that. SnGs are such a big part of my profits and that needs to change. I want to get better at cash. Any advice or whatever would be great.

Ok last rant is what it is.

Now, thanks to Sauce specifically, I learned an insane poker concept that is basically unheard of. That's a huge lie and I am completely embarrassed to write this but it really made me think differently in that our opponents aren't always the same. That last statement is it and is completely standard even I would have said "well obviously" but I never took the time to really think about this. Some take different lines in certain situations (obv) with similar stats as others. The way I use, and probably the only way, is to look at their past showdown hands. I can kind of get an idea on what they call, raise, minraise, etc. with and can exploit it. From my few hands at 25nl and 50nl and using this technique, I can see that most take the same lines in the same situations instead of balancing. From my few hands at those levels, I am up a lot, with 6 less tables than normal. I am definitely just beginning to think on these terms and will pick up more things when looking at lines but so far I can kind of get an idea on how they view poker. As in, for example, if they think 2nd pair top kicker is a good hand to c/c OOP 2/3 flop bet, 1/2 turn bet, and 1/2 river bet, etc.

One thing I have picked up on (well maybe two but mainly one), is how great being IP really is when you can see their line first...again really obvious. Now, this is great because you can raise more pre against certain players you know a lot about and esp. do so in position. So those are the two things, using position and isolating more vs. players you can easily exploit but you mainly want to be in position unless you have huge reads when he's IP.

So nothing new, but after reading some of griffey's post I think it will be good to write down notes after learning ideas from sessions/thinking.

My advice: put ego aside and stick to tourney's till you have about 5K or so for 100NL. You've shown you are a big shark in tourneys, so why not play them more.

With tourney's I mean both SNG and MTTS, start at the $11's or so, freeroll to bigger buyins Smile

haven't really played much since finishing in the top 3 of 2 180 man SnGs. Been thinking about poker a lot though. Really thinking differently in some cases, allowing me to play more hands pre as well as taking more hands further post. This is such a small sample size but I have felt pretty good so far with my recent success as I know I am playing differently from my old style.

i hope to laugh at this graph someday

Scoped you the other day, I take it that huge spike is from the two 180s you FT'd in? Nice stuff Smile.

Got a question, you've seen my game and enough posts to know how I play. What advice would you have for adjustments when I play MTTs?

180 tournies are so insane, AA<QJ pre (yay image or maybe they just suck so much). Then I got called with another image call in imo, KT<A9. 89>77 though obv. I was unfortunately short a lot today. Not really getting huge hands, and when I do I get beat, yay. Umm so yeah cash has been good. I really think I am learning the game of poker. Watched a friend play 50NL and pretty much told him what I would have done each hand and it seemed to work. He obv. mainly played his style (very aggro, 4bet min raising 78 pre in a blind war at this level, etc.)

Tried HU for a little vs a real short stack, ran hot pre. QQ and then KK in consecutive hands...and allin pre!! yes!!!!!:

fuck just got coolered (imo) in a quick session before classes for 1.5 buyins. It's amazing who plays earlier in the morning, they all are horrible. I get like 4 callers pre whenever I raise but of course AQ<AT with an ace on flop and then QQ<AA vs. an 80/0. I can't always assume a limp/RR from an 80/0 is AA right? I just called pre and stacked off on a stupid flop of JT4. I just felt he was so bad he could have some weird shit. Oh well. I think I may play a bunch of 4.40s again. Tried 3-betting like mad-man last night with success...but only vs. the right, thinking opponents. They seem to fold a lot pre or fold way too much post.

I can't always assume a limp/RR from an 80/0 is AA right?

If those stats are reliable and a big enough sample size then I dunno, you sort of can. Especially if he goes mental post-flop. Hardly a massive leak though.

Bah I don't care what that shows I can't win with kings or anything else. I'm going to pull the 70% variance 30% playing poorly card out. I will admit I got "fancy" and used my image and they just showed up with the nuts. I maaaay make note that most 50NL/25NLers don't adjust as often as I think. But I know some still do, just a matter of finding out who. I definitely need to wait for showdowned hands though before making assumptions. Here are some hands for you ballas:

I would have gotten it all in on the flop. Even if they have the flush you have outs to fill up. If they chase the draw you're making it a mistake for them to do so.

Fold was good on turn, shoulda got it in on flop though.

Dont mind that last one, but I'd like a better description than "aggro idiot". If he's aggro in a playing ATC kind of way you might be against something dumb like a pair of 4s.

haha yeah i'm just lazy. Not many hands but he was calling too much and chatting up a storm. Def. called way too much pre. Btw, bad variance is over and am back up like 5 buyins at 25nl in the past ~700 or so hands.

Not sure I like it if he's just playing too many hands unless he's been way too aggro postflop as well.

Let me guess, got your head right again? Nice stuff Smile.

Alright so last hand I posted river doesn't give me any of my outs Sad. But it's all good when he shows up with J high and rants.

Anyways, played some 50NL again today only 2 tabling. Went up a buyin quickly hitting a set + flopping a flush. I think I need work at this level extracting with a set. Flopped flush easily got in on the flop. After I got up a buyin I started spewing. Started bluffing ridiculously and some dude actually caught a bluff with bottom pair in a big pot. He was a reg. and I def. made note not to do this shit again. Then I had JJ and got 3bet, flop comes Kxx he leads half I RR he calls and I have to c/f his push on turn. I don't need help knowing how bad this play was as I really only fold out QQ and maaaybe TT if he does this, and of course even more rare, another JJ. So anyways I took a break, ate some lunch and came back to the 50NL tables determined. However this hand fucked me over. I can't fold here on turn can I? Also, is preflop OK given how we are a little deeper and there was a caller in front? No big reads on fenway but he did try bluffing me in an unraised pot which I picked off. That was our only hand played against each other and he wasn't involved much in other pots. No HUD stats.:

Hand seems fine to me. Stick with it man.

I played some cash last night. I sucked. I think I need to work table selection into my game. That and using the fold button.

yeah thanks...I lied I crushed in that hand haha. He called with AsQs. River was a diamond so you can assume how pissed/scared I was of results. BR is steadily moving back up.

2 coolers, sigh. One was vs. a maniac who bluffed me before when I had an overpair and I won a huge pot off of him. This time he actually hit a set as I hit an Ace with AK. Didn't get my whole stack thankfully. But then this:

Weeeee I actually had a goal but never posted it and I finally, after like 2 years, completed it. That said I had to take out some of my roll, so I was basically rolled for 100NL but will be grinding again at 50NL. I am happy!

Alright bad variance hitting me pretty hard right now. May drop down to 25NL for a little bit, though still rolled for 50NL. I want to increase more tables, talk to people more about poker and get sweated from who I think as of my coach. It's spring break and I have very little to do as of now so I hope to get a lot of hands in.

No worries, look me up on msn when you want me there!

Wink.

One thing I've decided is to minimize irc while grinding and not chat. Just another distraction I dont need. In fact I think I'll be spending less time in there in general.

yeah good points, they can be a big distraction. Can't wait for your coaching sessions to start again Smile

That said, I actually got offered to be sweated by a couple 200NLers as well as my "coach" who is even higher so I cannot thank those people enough if they read this. I HOPE to log in a bunch of hands this week. Played some 25NL short stacking just for the hell of it and did pretty well. I'm not going to continue this but just wanted to try it out.

I actually may be somewhat busy the next few days but I am playing 6k hands in the next 4 days. Yeah that's not a lot at all but I need something to get me playing more and more.

How many tables do you play? How long per session?

I'm struggling to get anywhere near the hands in that I want to playing 4-tables.

Just played a couple sessions of 8 tabling, only like a little +1k hands in. I'm ok with 8-tabling 25nl, won't be doing much 50nl for now. Each session is really dependent on what all I have going on. It sucks but I live with a roomate/friends near me so I "have" to leave my sessions a lot to do some stuff. I suggest adding a table after awhile and seeing if you can maintain the same focus as 4. And continuing the process. Tried finding you on MSN earlier Sad.

I also sweated my coach today which went well, many standard plays. A chance I will get sweated by him or that other group later tonight so I can only hope. Anyways, here are my nitty stats so far:

Finished my day alright. Had a dumb misclick that cost me about $7 and then someone hit their gutshot as I hit 2pair. I might post hands in the morning but kind of tired now. Got sweated by a friend and it really helped a lot.

Only played like 150 hands today...had a HUGE calling station which really helped. Up over a buyin at 25nl but not too happy, I need to start playing 50nl, I am definitely rolled. Kind of busy today but hopefully will be able to get a good chunk of hands in later tonight.

should I fire another barrel somewhere?:

Is he the calling station? 2nd hand looks that way. If so, why are you trying to bluff him?

Yeah, my bad, that is the calling station. I was going more for a semi-bluff knowing I get paid very heavily if I hit. However, I really thought he'd fold bottom pair. When I miss everything I don't know if I should fire again on river. Not sure if I'll be able to play tonight now which sucks because I'm itching to play again.

He's a calling station. You'll get paid big if you hit regardless. Thats what makes them fun.

I dont get what you're thinking here. Dont bluff a calling station. They call. Thats what they do. Thats why we call them calling stations. Hit TP and get paid, or check it down and get away cheap. These guys are the easy ones to play man.
