I'll update the discussion schedule sticky shortly to include the rest of the book. This week's section covers blocking bets, floating, check-raising and betting yourself off a hand.
1. In what types of situations do you balance your blocking bets? This seems crucial if you're going to use them against thinking opponents. Against what types of opponents are blocking bets profitable?
2. What types of players should you avoid call bluffing (aka floating)?
3. If you have any hand histories in which your check-raised the river, please post them, along with your reasoning.
And a thought-provoking quote from p. 156 about not betting yourself off a hand:

in the 1st hand you know what to do if raised - you fold. so why not bet the turn?
in the second hand you make a bet and you know what to do if raised - you fold. why do you bet the second hand and not the first? the first hand is an easy fold if you bet and are then raised |

You need to know your opponent. I agree with the way HenryFnord played both hands. The game is a short-handed game, 6 max. There are a lot of deception and trickery in this type of game. You can be easily trapped if you are not careful. |

1. I try to balance my blocking bets against solid opps when I've c-bet a draw and it hits the turn or the river. I bet a little less than 1/2-pot and hope villain thinks it's a block bet and raises. Another good situation is with a full house after a flush or straight draw completes. Blocking bets are generally profitable against less aware, weak, straightforward players who won't bluff raise.
2. Some characteristics of players you want to be careful floating: low c-bet frequency, high went to showdown %, willingness to fire second barrels. |
