1. In Concept 23, S&M say that limp folding is fine. The specific example they give is when you're deep-stacked with 87o in the CO against bad player (also deepstacked) who has limped in front of you, the button raises and the bad player folds. But they also suggest that in general, limp/folding isn't bad in deep-stacked games. Do you think it has a place in 100BB-stacked games?
2. In Concept 24, S&M recommend making a small pre-flop raise with a hand you might otherwise limp (A9s, small pp's, suited connectors) in an aggressive game. Do you do this? Do you find it has the desired effect, eliciting callers rather than raisers and preserving your implied odds?
3. In Concept 27, S&M recommend bluff raising limpers from the big blind occasionally with your worst hands. What do you think?
4. In Concept 29, S&M reiterate their belief that small pre-flop raises have their place in NLHE. What are good situations to use them? Hand histories? How do you play against players that minraise or 3x raise pre-flop? |

1. In the rare situations that I limp (maybe with A3s/65s/87o from LP after 3+ limpers) I will fold if a shortstack (and sometimes a full-stacked nit) raises b/c I won't have sufficient implied odds to call.
2. I don't do this, but my normal pre-flop raise is 3.5xBB from EP & MP and I raise suited aces and sc's, so I'm not that far away. I'm not sure the 1/2 FR game I play is aggressive enough to warrant it, but I know gabe recommends a 3xBB opening raise at mid- and high-stakes 6-max for these reasons. When I take my next shot at 2/4 I might give it a try.
3. I started doing this when I first read T&P and I like it a lot. I'd estimate I do it every 4 or 5 orbits and try to target players that are likely to either fold pre-flop or to a c-bet.
4. I'm not one to address this b/c I use a pretty standard 3.5xBB+1BB/limper raise in EP & MP and 4BB+1BB/limper raise in LP and the blinds. I'd be curious to hear from anyone that regularly mixes in small pre-flop raises. |
