Alright, there's two hands from a MTT that I felt could use a second opinion. This first one was the hand I busted out on, and the remaining players were playing surprisingly tight and giving away their blinds quite often. Considering this, was there a better way I should have played this hand?

This is the second hand that I thought needed some help, especially since I lost a HUMONGOUS chunk of my chips. Table play at this point was also pretty tight, but the chip leader was calling for almost every flop.

Hand 2: fold when re-raised on the flop. If you call, lead out on the turn.... your check was too weak...this is how I bluffed someone on the same situation:

The first hand is a tough one. You made a big raise with a marginal hand from a bad position on a pot you had no stake in.
By betting half your chips preflop, you're pretty much either going to win the blinds or going to be forced to make a decision for all your chips. I wouldn't think that too many people are going to call this size of raise without having you beat. It might be a good stealing move if the blinds were smaller compared to your stack, or if the opponents both have weak hands, but that wasn't the case this time.
The size of the blinds compared to the size of your stack makes these kinds of moves necessary, but when he raised you for all in, you might have figured he had you beat 60%-70% of the time. Depends on the player. The players at the table were tight, but this guy was in the same position as you, getting fairly desperate compared to the blinds and he may have been making a move.
You had to choose between mucking your hand and losing half your stack or making the call on a marginal hand. You can only pay the blinds a few more times around the table at this stage, but you're not quite desperate, so it was a tough decision to make. I doubt I'd have played it as agressively as you did at the start, but if I had, I most likely would have made the call knowing I might have the worst hand, and hoping for a good set of cards.
After your raise, you have just under 7k in chips left. If you muck, that'll pay for the blinds two more times around. If you catch a good hand soon, you may be okay, getting back up to where you started. If you catch one after once around the table, even if you double up, you'll still only be at 7k or so. |
