Hi guys, i'm going to vegas in a week and i'm just wondering about whether to hit the tables there.
I noticed that when playing anything other than PokerStars the standard raises are significant.
My latest 'game' has been about raising the pot to get rid of competition. But... i noticed that even when i raise the pot, i miss and end up leaving SNGs earlier than when i first starting playing.
So i thought i should check out what my stats are over a couple of games. I recorded them here:
http://www.stayinwonderland.com/clients/2000pm-sng.htm
http://www.stayinwonderland.com/clients/2000pm-sng2.htm
Note: 1st game i played loose was getting cheap flops all the time with reasonable hands, 2nd game i tightened up.
There's a summary at the bottom. Also note the hands that i lose on.
I'd love to be able to see what the average person hits. I guess my question is, with odds like these... what can i do?
This is reasonably typical also. I find i hit the flop 1 out of 10 times. |

62% of flops is way too many. As a new player 10% is probably about right.
you'll flop a pair around 1/3 and a set around 1/8. So will everyone else. |

In that first link you lost 500 chips in the first 9 hands. What were you doing!?!
If you think you're hitting the flop a low % of the time, then you may be running poorly. If so, seeing more flops is not the solution. |

The first one isn't my normal style of play. I just wanted to get a good idea of what my hit rate was.
I normally play super tight, folding to any raise just to get into 3rd. |

| You can calculate your hit rate with math, you don't have to waste money and time playing 1 game, thinking thats a large enough sample size for this type of thing, and go with those scewed results. |

| I just played a SNG and did quite well but Poker Stars don't record hands with play money, is there 3rd party software that i can plug into it? |

THIS!
"You" don't have a hitrate. And neither do I. I'm no more likely to hit a flop with AQ than you are. We have the same odds to make a hand. It just so happens in your very tiny sample size, you didn't flop well. That happens. And mainly because you probably aren't playing very well and playing too many marginal hands in the early part of the SNG and not playing well near the end. You really are wasting your time doing things like this. Please, if you want to get better, listen to what I am about to tell you. You need to trim a tournament and put it up in this forum for review. It is the single best thing that will improve your game. I guarantee you will find a shitload of things you are doing wrong, and that's okay, because then we can fix them and you can improve.
I realize you said PS doesn't save hand histories from play money tournaments. I suggest you look into an affiliate site to get $50 starting for free or something of that nature (I know nothing about it), then play a few and save the hand histories and do as I stated.
Spending time doing analysis to see if your "lucky" is not the way to get better at poker. |

Stacks, cheers for the tip, i found an XML file from CD Poker and i'm trying to work with it.
So far i found a site that converts it to a html file that i could post but it only shows showdown hands for some reason. In order to post hand history do people need to see every hand? like to see what you folded etc.?
I'm not sure how to extract that info from the XML file. If not i can post my hand history for a $11 6 seater that i came second it but it will only be the showdown hands. Unless you know what i can do with the XML file to convert all the hands.
Cheers! |

| I'm not sure howto do that wonderland sorry. But you could just go look into your hand history folder from where you did play real money SNGs on PokerStars, and trim those. I mean you may have picked up alot of stuff since then, but you could still get any leaks pointed out fairly quickly doing that, and they might have been some you haven't found yet. |
