Hey guys,
Just wanted to drop a suggestion. There is a pretty killer community around FTR and you guys do some cool stuff to keep it flowing such as the gauntlet and what not. But I think you guys could use the main news page to help get a lot of the player ran things in the community going. For example, posting about the book club, or when that FTR Superstars idea was going helping promote that or the one guy with the heads up thing.
I think the book club is a rad idea, but outside of hte original idea thread and the new forum at the bottom.. if you don't go out of your way to find it, you won't. Also, I think the FTR Superstars idea was outstanding and should have taken place.. but if you didn't catch the thread, you never even knew about it. I think it would of taken off with a little backing by maybe a news post to help it out.
Just a few ideas. The strenght of that main page letting people know about new things coming up around the FTR comm is huge I'd think.

joshua,
By main news page you mean the Latest Announcements section of the home page right?
I'm excited about the book club too and maybe we should be doing more to get the word out about it. Once the group finishes The Theory of Poker and starts covering Harrington on Hold'em I plan on getting involved.
I'll talk to Tyson and Xianti about what we can do to be more involved with the book club and the FTR Superstars idea. |

| I think in the future if people would like to announce something or bring attention to a thread, let Eric, Xianti, or myself know about it and then we can review it and put up the announcement. |

Just to add something that may or may not be totally obvious - a lot of regulars might not even notice announcements.
A lot of people probably have the favorites set to FTR Index as I do, and just about never see the announcements page.
That's how some cool new stuff like the book section could slip by.
Not that it's a real problem - eventually I noticed the book section and you didn't announce it in community or anything. Was glad to see the Chat Room info there, though.
If anything, you might consider more short-term community stickies for stuff - - ? |

| Xianti does sometimes post in the commune about events such as gauntlet games and such. Making posts, linking to the appropriate forum, and then locking the commune post is probably a good idea just to get the initial word out there about a certain event. |

ya I think any major announcements should be emailed out, because I sure as hell don't read a lot of this site other than threads in my favorite forums.
As far as basic Poker Strategy goes,... I have little interest in reading that anymore. |

There is a mass email function that we haven't used yet. I think this is a good suggestion. |

as an 'optin/optout' of course.
i administer several email lists at my employer. our general 'allstaff' mail lists are limited to content items that are considered to be required as part of the employment relationship (i.e. the email about the parking lot closed for cleaning next saturday is not required, the email about the changes to the insurance benefit package is definitely required). for anything that doesn't fit the criteria as official (required knowledge) then it gets redirected to one of the opt-in lists. this works well.
i would hate to see a mass email function that was sending me a bunch of stuff i didn't need to know about FTR (like the new rules of conduct for example) and then couldn't unsubscribe from it. it would equal spam to me. |

Which is why we hadn't used this function yet. The version that phpBB comes with doesn't offer a opt-out option. I hate spam as much as anyone else.
We'll look into it. |
