I’ve been challenged on this twice in the past week, and would appreciate is someone of experience could confirm this scenario (suit is irrelevant, no possible flush)…
Player A: KJ
Player B: K2
River: AKQQ4
Result Player A: KKQQA
Result Player B: KKQQA
Based on the “best 5 available” rule my belief is the A from the board is a shared kicker for each two-pair, and the pot would be split.
Opponents have claimed that 2nd pocket card must be used for the kicker (J vs 2) when both players share the same two-pair hand, and Player A would take the pot with a J kicker.
Confirm? Thanks-- |

| You are right, it is the best five card hand, in this situation KKQQA. The only difference would be if you were playing by some weird variant or weird rules where you had to use both of your hole cards. |

Yeah, you're definitely right.
The specific situation you listed is an uncommon one (with 3 pairs), but the much more common one is like this:
A3
A2
Board: AQT75
Split pot.
You certainly don't have to use a kicker from your hole cards, its just usually isn't the case that the 5th best card from both hands is on the board, unless they're both playing hands like A3 and A2. |

Here's a question that I have about split pots. I have been online a few times and seen a pot that was $10.25. It was split between 2 people, and 1 person got $5.12, the other got $5.13
Why did one person get more? I have seen 1 hypothesis on this, the guy who got more said, "It's because my cards are suited." But that doesn't make any sense.
Usually at home games, if there is extra, we leave it in the pot for the next hand. |

Yeah, haha, I've wondered about that as well. I really don't know for a fact, but I think if the pot is odd it may go to the person who made the last bet (and the caller gets the penny less). At least its been that way in a few hands that I've seen like that.
Not that I really care about a penny, but I have noticed that and been curious. |

It's always going to be a penny, you can split up everything to within a penny of being even. |

| I've looked into this and I think the person closest to the dealer button gets the extra penny, if one person posted a blind they sometimes recieve there blind back too (stars i think i.e. 10.25 for one 10 for the other) |

split pots are an abomination, therefore, if two hands are tied, and fishstick is in the pot, the pot will go to fishstick.
