SITL = Sky Is The Limit
Don't have a specific goal, but I do have a general direction, and it will involve lots of tournaments (both live and online) and lots of caffeine and not going broke in the process.
The general direction right now is pointing towards UB Aruba satellites. Also some WSOP satellites.
Basically, I really started seriously playing around march. My initial deposit at Party ($200) was down to I think $50. Bad beat after bad beat put me on an insane tilting, like a pinball machine.
Desperate, because I was on such a full blown tilt of party's insane blind structure sng's, i moved my money, and tried my hand at UB.
Mar 30th I started playing there, still on drama-tilt. $50 became $7,15. If Ilost this money, psychologically, I wouldn't be ready to ever play again. I'd see poker like this gigantic bottomless pit in which you throw your money (or an enormous industrial chimney).
I took a cold hard look at my game, and decided I a revamp was in order. I started training like a maniac, on every simulator i could find, on every document ever written on poker.
I plunked down that cash in a SnG March 31st. A $5,50.
I came in second.
Since then, I made that money into about $300. This was about April 18th.
I registered by mistake on a $50 Sng, and I came in 4th. Roll took a big hit according to BR Management. I went on research again.
I built it back up, its now about 400 there.
I recenlty moved some money to stars. I tried my hand at some SnG's there, but I never deposited more than the minimum:
------------------
Purchase request time: 2007/05/12 01:32:58
Purchase amount: $105.00
Fees: No fees
Status: APPROVED
MoneyBookers account: xxxxxxxxxxx
PokerStars Transaction ID: #81497047
This transaction will show up on your MoneyBookers statement as PStars
------------------
And I tried my hand at some SnG's, with mixed results. I won some, I lost some, nothing too dramatic. But then again I only played about 3 per day.
Today, I had a breakthrough and i had to share this:
------------------

#1 setback;
My laptop was stolen yesterday between 10PM and 1 AM when I went with a group of friends to a Quiz Night at a local cafe.
Apparently, some motherfucking burglars broke into my truck (2002 Axiom) and grabbed only my laptop. It was in the back and they broke my back side window.
Of course, nobody saw nothing. And this happened in one of the mosrt "upscale" neighbourhoods.
So right now, I have to add a new sidegoal: build enough of a bankroll to be able to afford a new laptop and to import a new replacement window.
Bad things seem to know exactly when to hit you to hurt you the most. I'll report later.
*Edit: a friend of mine lent me her laptop, an old Vaio. It will have to do for now. I don't like deadlines, but I've set one: by end of May, I'll have made $600 to put on FullTilt (for max 1st time Bonus), and $700 for a new laptop, a dell I'll buy from a friend who's a dealer (in dell). Requirements: to leave at least $300 on both Stars and UB at the end of the preiod, while fullfilling the goals. Starting BR is $502 on stars and UB combined.
Let the grinding begin. |

It hurts, really.
Besting a field of 3500 players toocome in 86 and no payout. A feeder for the Aruba Classic, only top 50 get a spot in the sattelite.
My reward for tHis has been experience. Experience in knowing QQ isn't apushing hand from UTG. Experience in knowing to look at other shortstacks, and be mindful of position, before reaching for chips. Experience to know that patience is the greatest weapon to have in no limit.
A loss in reality. A wealth of gain in experience. |

Sorry, since its UB, i have too copy and paste it on the spot.
I couldn't do it.
I'll try a recap. Blinds were @ 1000/2000.
I had about 40000~42000 chips. I can't remember the avg stack, but i thinki was about 20k below.
I had QQ UTG, I went allin. Three critical mistakes, rolled into one bad decision.
1: there were at least 4 stacks shorter than 10000 (about to bust)
2:only top 50 get a seat in the sattelite. only 36 to go.
3:allinplay, when you have 20xbb in your stack, is a donk play. ishould have raised tosee what happens.
Anyway, some dude in MP wakes up with KK, and the rest is history.
Sidenote: lol, I think I'm going in the right direction!

Hmm.
Poker seems to be a lot like real life.
You may live a perfect life for 40 years, pay your taxes, do community work, being a great dad/ mom etc. Just one mistake one day can leave you on the side of the road with your head beside you, watching the other part of your body bleed away.
One such mistakes may be dating a mob boss' daughter/ ex girlfriend. Or, not looking right-left-right before crossing through a relatively tranquil street, the precise day some maniac hijacked a bus and was doing 130 mph with it in said street.
In poker, one such a mistake may be pushing with QQ UTG while not far from the money, with just about 17xBB in your stack. Somebody, who happens to have you covered, may wake up with KK or AA and you are gone. That stack, which you have massaged so well, which so far has survived quite well, will die a pitiful, undeserved death.
As long as you are not fully desperate, just concentrate and don't give up your life in such mirages, which look good (like the mob-boss' daughter) but turn out to be fatal.
Wait for a better spot. Patience is rewarding in and of itself.
Sidenote: The last few days I've been concentrating more in managing my emotions than actual success. My BR is dead where it was a week ago (40 buyins) but my emotional stability has grown. No pumping of fists or hidden grins when I get the nuts. No grimacing when I suffer a bad beat.
When I play poker now, my face never changes its state, despite the fact that I'm sitting behind a pc (without being able to see my actual opponents).
I consider this progress. |

These are my stats, probably 100 or so sng's:
VP$IP 26.8
PostFlop Aggression 11.8
Cold Call% 6.3
Showdown Win% 55.6
I guess I have to tighten up a bit. The SDWIN% has to go up a bit, too. |

To maximize your payoff in a monster hand, you sometimes have to slowplay.
This, combined with your table image (loose aggressor), leads to profitable resutls.
Meaning, you can trap w/ a great hand, but not with a weak one (like twopair w/ 5 limpers)
Make 'em think their hand is good, then...

what the poop is going on.
I squander chipleads like there's no tomorrow, to come in third in almost 15 sng's in a row.
I think I have discovered a massive leak. Time to play some short-handed nl. |

Yesterday was a good day.
Today was a bad daym with my BR approaching $400 again. I tried my hand ata 360, and came in 31. I also tried my hand at a $27,50 tourney on stars. Far from the money in that one.
Essentially, everyone would get lucky on me today. Also, I need to work more on my patience and discipline. I'm aggressive at the wrong times, and passive at the wrong times.
Consistency, patience, discipline, aggression. That's all. |

You dont seem to cont bet much, and let people complete on you too much shorthanded/heads up.
"I think I have discovered a massive leak. Time to play some short-handed nl."
Why not plug the leak?
3rd is a 50% ROI on stars (at low lvls anyway), so 15 in a row sucks for confidence, but doesnt hurt BR. What return are you getting for them? |

A rundown of what happenedn today:
I got QQ. Villain got KK. KK holds up.
I got motherfucking 77. Villain has 88. 88 wins witha a 9-high straight.
I got JJ. Villain has QQ. QQ wins.
I got AA. Everybody folds.
I got QQ. Villain got QK. He flops trips.
These sort of situations is what I faced all day. The only way I'd get some chips is stealing until in my preffered steal positions I get some of the above mentioned hands.
All day, I've been marginally outranked, losing almost $100 in the process. Truly unbelievable.
Sidenote: I TRULY HATE UTG MINRAISERS. GO MINRAISE YOUR S***** W**** M******! |

Lol, sucks. How many games is that over?
I always raise the same PF (4xbb early blinds, 3xbb late blinds). I'd say the last 10 times I've had AA everyone has folded, but they're more than happy to call my 53o steals :p for the same amount. |

I'm at about 25% on Stars, about 40% on UB. The problem is I get a lot of thirds, when I should have won in the first place. I have massive chipleads almost all the time (say, 7000 or so 10-handed), but then when the bubble is gone, I commit stupid play after stupid play and end up in third.
Most of the time this takes just two-three hands.
My leak is how aggressive I should be when shorthanded. What hands to play etc. |

About 12 games yesterday. I don't play a lot, but for 12 straight I run into the same things.
I even tried my hand at ring yesterday and the same thing happened. I ran into a 1-up yet again. QQ vs KK.
But the last one is entirely my fault. In ring, you shouldn't feel blind pressure. I folded about 30 or so hands straight, and then that happened.
I should've folded. I should have folded. But, I tried tourney all-in play, and ran into KK. Lost a buy in, and decided that cash games are no good for me, at least not until I can take a proper roll over at party or Empire and start with easy pickings. |

I guess my concern with the leak and playing short handed, is you're not up against the same blind structure. I havnt given it a lot of thought, but I think an area I need to improve now is the 5-6 players left mid portion of an S&G, but I'm not sure playing some 6-max is the answer, since the priorities of the opponents are different, as are the blinds/stack ration (I think).
Got some hands/partial tourneys where you think you've squandered a big chip lead with over aggression? |

I'll look into the hands for you m8. But I'm afraid only the PS's SnG's when I came in third will be available. The ones in whic despite having chiplead I bubble, I woouldn't know how to look for them. No PT etc.
Also, of course, if its at UB then those HH's are pretty much up shit creek.
The next time I get a fresh one, I'll post it immediately. |

Here for instance, I'm second in chips, and In good position.
I shouldn't have bet here at all. I think its actually a push/fold situation, use the stack to get everybody out. Too much damned mistimed aggression.

It looks like you need to think about what you're trying to achieve in your betting.
Take that hand, PF raise is good with 1 caller. Got to be happy at that point. You'd be happy with blinds, but you dont really want to get a push called at this point with AQ. Put another way, whos going to call your AI? Probably only hands ahead of yours. The blinds are nice, but are they worth risking your stack when theres still 4 people to act?
When the flop comes, you need to think about what you want to achieve. Its a scary flop. Either your opponent has hit a flush, is on a flush draw, or missed. Before clicking a button you need to consider what happens.
If you bet and he folds, you get a nice pot.
If you bet and he calls, what does that mean you'll do next? It probably means he's on a draw, but could mean he's got his flush or a set.
If you check and he checks behind, what does that mean? He could still be on a draw and taking a free card, or he could have missed.
If you check and he bets, what does that mean?
You need to think how you'll react to those situations.
Me, I c-bet that flop. I want to find out now if I'm winning or losing. 800 to go. The only thing he should call or raise with is a flush (even if he has a set he's got to be worried with that flop), so thats as far as I take this. If he raises I fold, if he calls I check/fold.
In this case your check implies weakness, so he comes in with a min-bet. Wtf does that tell you? Nothing. It could mean he's on a draw and is happy to take it now for cheap. It could mean he hit his flush and wants to appear weak to get more money in. It could be a weak bluff. Hell, it could be middle pair. You're now in a situation where you dont have any information. You follow that up with a call that means you head into the turn without information. When the spade hits, your done. He could have air for all you know, but you're not going to bet that turn. Basically you just gave him 200 chips for no reason.
Have a reason for your actions, and a plan for what happens next. |

Tnx for the advice m8.
I meant push/fold in the sense that I'd fold it. play on Button, C/o w/ any two, but fold this UTG.
I have to bet out more. I seem to become passive as the table shrinks, and blinds creep up. |

Nah, AQ is too nice a hand to fold 5-handed from any position, unless raised before you (i.e., BB if CO or Button raises you might fold). Its still a hand you'd like to see a flop with, but you'd prefer to see it as the aggressor.
"I seem to become passive as the table shrinks, and blinds creep up."
I have that problem sometimes too. Then I make it worse by getting frustrated at being so passive and feeling like the aggressors are pushing me around, so I get hyper-aggressive at the wrong time.
5-6 handed isnt my strong point. I tend to do really well by getting to the bubble with almost any amt of chips and then getting very aggressive there. Often everyone else turns into a passive nit waiting for someone else to bubble out, so you can run over them. I'll often double my chips between bubble and ITM. That being the case, if I had your chips in that hand, its not a bad course just to go super passive until bubble. As long as thats your "plan" then hopefully frustration wont hit, and you can go into the bubble with planned aggression rather than tilting aggression. |

Yes I limped the JJ.
I called the third hand in disbelief. I just couldn't believe what just happened. I wanted this shit to end as quickly as possible.
Where are the people who say Stars is rigged?
(Yes I know. Bad play on my part. Should've folded AQ. But I think I got into some state of tilt after three consecutive proper starting hands won't hold up. I just posted these for amusement.) |

[edit] Ahh, you edited while I was responding. Ahh well, I'll leave it here even though you already said it yourself.
First two you should be raising PF. Stop letting so many people see the flop cheaply when you have premium but weak hands (if that makes sense).
As it was, hand 1 you'd have check/folded the flop regardless, but again, going in as the aggressor normally gives you more options.
Hand 2 sucks, but nice fold to the reraise. Again though, a raise PF should have weeded out a lot of the hands you're now worried about. Limping just lets people see the flop with ATC leaving you with a mess on the flop.
Hand 3 is one I'd have folded PF, but I tend to be very nitty early. I dont like calling with AQ, and especially from BB I think I'd rather fold than reraise. Once you saw the flop though, I like the flop reraise, and I like the turn bet. HATE the AI call though, but so do you. With 3 flush on the board and a K, you were beat as soon as he reraised. Could be an argument for a check/fold there even, just because you're now commiting a lot of your chips into a hand you're likely behind on. The double barrel there has been nice for me in the past though, so other than the call I probably take your line. |

Lol yeah. These should be called semi-premium.
I have found, that at these levels, you have to make a hefty raise to keep people out of the pot. Say 5xbb or so. And even so, you'll still get 4-5 callers, juicing the pot up, but making c-bet pretty much impossible.
Anyway, the AQ call came from disgust of the previous two hands. Its like an accumulation of these few days, in which I've had soooo many second bests.
Thing is, I don't multitable. I just can't believe how many times I've been dealt second bests in such a short span. AK to AA, QQ to KK, JJ to QQ etc.
Of course, this being no-limit, it usually means game over.
I have to find a way to deal with this, play the situation and not the cards.
Keep a cool head.
Else I'll keep paying off with second (and third) bests forever. |

Perfect spot for a c-bet. He either has a J or he doesnt. Finish the hand off. You win the pot, or he calls/raises and you're done. If you bet say 600 and you're beat then you're down to 2.8k chips which hurts but you're not out, and if you get him to fold then you basically swap stack sizes with him. By checking the flop, you lose the ability to represent a strong hand. He could have anything at this point. A2? He could even have a 5 he didnt want to bet on the flop but now feels he's ahead with.
[edit] Just realised I use the term "perfect spot for a c-bet" a lot in here. I do think there are times its not a great idea. If two broadway cards come on the flop and both miss me, I dont like a c-bet. Also if I've been c-betting a lot, I start to think I'm becoming too predictable so let one slide every now and then. Probably pick something like a completely non-broadway board and let it slip though. Buying some image points I guess. |

Previously, I'd have laid that down. I thought about cbetting, but I preffered to give one free card. Very passive thinking.
The dude showed down T9o. I guess I made a good call here (his checking speed on the flop gave his hand away).
But the thing is, with 3 people left, almost like heads-up, any pair seems to be good.
The game changes a lot shorthanded. Starting requirements have to be loosened a lot. You havta play a lotta hands.
My problem was that I'd approach shorthanded like full-ring, say, care for the flop etc. Now, I guess one has to be betting, cbetting, c/r'ing more regardless of flops and also calling down more with any reasonable hand. |

| Yeah, thats why I like aggression. Most of the time noone actually hits well on the flop, so it often comes down to "neither of us have a hand, but since I'm the one betting, are you going to call it with nothing?". Rather than wait till you have a hand, make him fold when he doesnt have a hand. The times you actually have a hand are a Bonus, and since you play them the same way, you hope thats the time he gets sick of your aggression and tries to bluff you off it. |

Long time no post!
I guess its time for an update:
1) goal #1 get a laptop: complete. I got an Inspiron 6400 w/ 2GB of ram and Vista Ultimate installed. Thieves, you may have your fun with my old laptop.
1b) sidegoal #1 get a new phone: complete. I got two new nokia's, one for a job and one for leisure.
2) goal #2 neteller: complete. I finally got my neteller account working. I had to go through more verifications than a visitor entering a NASA facility, but finally, I did it.
Other than that, well, not much. I took a much needed rest, but now am back to hit the tables again. With a proper laptop now. |

And again I fuck up a nice chiplead 6:4 heads up to come in second.
I'm proud of myself though. i played really tight (well) up to this point.
Mental note: believe the raises, and beware the paired and colored boards... |

And another heads-up fumble:
http://www.flopturnriver.com/Online-Poker-Tournament-862.html
the payout was 13,50 , obvious typo
I think I played this one really tight. Not cbetting all the time, not raising pre all the time. Just enough, not too little not too much.
See few flops, make 'em believe you have it, win without a showdown.
When you do have it, win a big pot. That's it.
Oh, and another thing: there is no real wrong move in poker.
-EV, +EV, ~EV... it all depends on the situation. On reads you might have.
On your stack size. On the amount of players at the table. On who these players have shown to be. Their tendencies. On the size of the blinds, etc.
Cards are the last thing you need to worry about in all of poker. |

So,
BR update: $594. Just $6 to go for goal #1.
I also need a new war cry. Unga Bunga is kind of like a cliche.

I lost three games today. I made the money in 8, but lost three.
The three of them to overpairs.
Actually, it seems I lose to overpairs a lot lately. Maybe an old leak resurfaced? |

Update:
Stars cashouts: lightning fast.
UB cashouts: sucks. For whatever reason, its not instant.
BR should be around $800 (+unclaimed bonuses). As soon as I can bonuswhore over at FT I'll be well over the $1000 mark.
Now, lets use that money to make more money. I'll be rolled for the $20's. Lessee how that goes.
Mental note: make next deposit at stars w/ neteller. If I get lucky and have to cashout an extraordinary amount, neteller has no withdrawal limit kinda like Moneybookers does.
Plus, you get your own prepaid card to withdraw your cash anywhere in the world. Sweet.
Now when will they mail me that damn card... |

Hey, good luck at the 20s!
Love that AA hand. Isnt it great when you've lagged it up for a few hands, think its time to settle down and then get dealt a monster. You can start counting the chips before you've played . |

TNX, I'll need it.
I'll play a mixture of 10's and 20's, maybe 65% 10's and 35% 20's. Lessee how that goes.
About the AA hand: yeah, and they fall in it like mice in the world's biggest & stealthiest mousetrap |

Hmm, I just found out about this Rakeback thing.
Thing is, durign my tilt 9and exodus from PartyPoker and Empire Poker) I created an account on FTP too. But I never deposited. Now I hear that in order to get the obscure Rakeback, you need to sign up via the Rakeback site in question.
Existing accounts are SOL.
So, I've emailed their support, since it also says that "depending on the room, we might be able to convert accounts too".
I'm awaiting their response before depositing. Rakeback, + 100% deposit, is too sweet to pass by. |

Totally off-topic. These are just my views on a few situations I came across today.
People play badly, they lose a coinflip, and the site is rigged.
Oh, I hate these arguments.
Why are you crying? If you were a 95% favorite to win a pot, and you managed to suck your opponent in, and he sucks out on you, be happy.
You played perfect poker.
The other 19 times you are in this exact situation you'll stack him. Just so happened that today that 1 time, which is a statistical certainty (it HAS to happen, else the site would be rigged), happened.
Stop bitching and start playing poker. If you can't handle bad beats, quit now. |
