Direction for FEB: Gold.
Tentative Direction for MAR, APR, MAY, JUN: At least Gold, shoot for Platinum.
Milestone for JUN: Get me one of those HDX18t's, FPP iPod, and a 1K herman miller chair (goddamn, these things are pricey)
That's pretty much it. And get out of cheeseburger stakes if at all possible, stop being such a goddamn nit.
Fuck monetary goals though, so gg. |

Those numbers will likely only depress you more.
Just throw it all in a forgotten place in the mind and grind.
Drop if your play is getting bad as a result of beats, you'll be fine. |

Pravda please!
So, I'm about 100K hands in, and my numbers look ok.
Save connectors:
Play more of them. But with the shallow stacks within SNGs, playing connectors is kind of like hemorrhaging chips in the long run. Maybe in big-buyin 200BB starting stack tournaments,THEN I'm playing more connectors, but for now, I'm happy with my game the way it is.
Maybe openraising more offsuit connectors and specific cbetting will do the trick? Or better yet; no coldcalling with suited connectors ever if its more than 5% of my stack.
On to the next 100K! |

Its valentine's day, the reason for marketing imo. Be sure you get some today though.
Let me hit some X.O., courtesy of my buddy XTR
Some simple calculations.
To hit Nova, I have to get 10K VPPs in a month, on average, for 10 months. Then I am nova for at least until Feb. '10.
For every single 15+ 1 or 10+1 I play, I get the equivalent of 5 VPPs. So, in a month, I need to play 2K SNGs and maintain this pace to get Nova.
This translates to 80 in a day (25 day month), which 6-tabling translates to a little over 13 per table. at .5 hours average each, I have to grind about 7 hours each day.
This is why I have to increase my amount of played tables. But currently I need some hardware upgrades to do that.
If I double the amount of tables I play, and I think I could do this easily, it would take me a little less than 4 hours a day grinding. Of course, I have to assume I can maintain the same level of play 12-tabling that I can 6-tabling, but this would be no real problem except when headsup, but I tilt like a monkey if my computer slows down, so maybe the times I failed HU while 8-tabling were all hardware related and not my entire fault.
This is my eventual goal so for now, I will withdraw 1.9K to get me a fucking new laptop.
But, at a higher buyin, I may need a larger padding to withstand the swings, so I am shooting for 200BI minimum again. I currently have a little over 2K in my poker account, which means for now the goal should be:
1.9K + (200*16) = 5.1K, rounded up = 5.5K.
if I keep having days like this, it will not take long
Edit: make that 6K, so I buy a good pair of fucking noise isolation headphones. |

Av time for a turbo is 45-50 minutes and twice that for 10+1.
Hence you're gonna have to put a lot more hours per day than you wanted |

that was the strangest double post ever.
I think there is a miscommunication here.
Jack's numbers probably reflect the fact that you don't get to the end of every tournament that you play. So while the tourney may last 45 minutes, an aggressive player will average about half an hour per entry. |

A ben nevis 10 yr in vintage bottle, coming up!
I too think its a miscommunication error here. 40-45 minutes is indicative of a SNG you are at least HU in if its a turbo, and probably 6-handed if you are playing a normal one.
I just looked at my numbers again, and on average it takes me 33 minutes per turbo. |

The SCOOP is nearly here. This means I have under a month to figure out how to play some MTT pokah properly.
Nice.
Oh, and as for FEB Gold, I'm halfway there, so obviously I won't make it. I will abstain from making further volume goals until I procure better hardware. |

The sad part is that there is nothing one can do about it. I had 2.8K in my stars account last friday, right now I have a little less than 2.1K.
I step in, its to drop a buyin. This shit is really getting to my nerves. Its kind of a helpless feeling, like watching the headlights approaching but you cannot move out of the way. I do not even want to see a showdown anymore. If people need any of 3 cards to win the pot, seemingly one of them has to arrive at least on the turn but mostly on the river every fucking time. Its truly amazing.
Beats can happen. Beats should happen. 10 to 1 means just that, ten to fucking one. Not 250 consecutive times, back to back to back to back to ...
aaah, fuck this shit. Since I can't rely on showdowns at all, I am going to do everything in my power to avoid them altogether. |

Tnx dude, I'm starting to realize more and more that perseverance is a virtue.
You need strength and willpower to persevere and have a shot at achieving your goals, whatever these may be.

Running bad always goes hand in hand with playing bad. The difference will be subtle, and unnoticeable to any but the most observant of players.
Its the little things that count, and a lot of the little things can become massive when snowballed together, all the while you are sitting there thinking that the planets are aligned against you. In fact they are aligned against you too, since the rate with which 9:1's will lose will seem dauting, specially if it happens multiple times in a row.
For now, 7K seems to be a nice figure to get to while grinding. I will consider that the minimum roll required to play in the $22's and the $33 MTTs.
The key thing about poker is that you have to find a way to maximize your potential returns in as little time on the table as possible.
I have to go out now, I'll finish this post some other time. |

Thanks for drpping by guys.
Nah, the bar is closed down until further notice. Since I installed Windows 7 (probably 29 feb, judging by the date on my Vista backup), I have not grinded seriously.
Like all good Hollywood movies, my bar will be back eventually. I just have to deal with a few things first, while enjoying my newfound perspectives on a variety of issues. |

All the best, Jack. |

Thanks. I will leave this tidbit;
Antonius:
"No one has ever taught me a single thing about poker. I have never read a book of poker, not a single page. I never got a lesson from anyone. So its very good way to figure out yourself how to play, cuz then you have to use your own ... imagination and think all the situations through and what would be the best options and you'd have to learn from your mistakes ... when you do mistakes you try to remember those to not make the same mistakes again.
Basically, I enjoy playing high stakes poker or any kind of poker where I play with people I have played a lot before, cause I have long history with them and I have my piece of mind there."
But his wiki page says he was mentored. Whatever, he's obviously my new hero. |

Basically, I enjoy playing high stakes poker or any kind of poker where I play with people I have played a lot before, cause I have long history with them and I have my piece of mind there."
But his wiki page says he was mentored. Whatever, he's obviously my new hero. |
This quote from High Stakes Poker was wild. It blew my mind. I'm doing all this work and here, Antonius, didn't do a damn thing (of course besides practicing). It's rather interesting. Does this mean PokerStove, HEM, and studying is overrated as compared to practice, practice, practice? Who knows? But maybe I'll start something in the BC and see what everyone else thinks. Nice post.
By the way...your avatar is beautiful. Who is that? |

Thanks for dropping by my (still semi-closed) bar!
1) My view of poker and its various sides has changed a lot (A LOOOOT) over the course of years. I'm fairly bad at explaining myself, but I agree with Patrick hence why I quoted him. Its also a bit odd that Ivey, Antonius nor Benjamine have made no books, whereas Hellmuth, Gordon, Sklansky and soo many more make a new book every passing second.

I just came to the stunning realization that the first computer that I have ever ever ever used or been exposed to in my life was this thing
An original Apple Macintosh. My God.This means that at some point I will have to buy a Mac, just to return to my roots.
Oh, and I've been studying Chinese recently. And Japanese. I'm gonna expand on my polyglot side.
