opponent is tag. although there are more AK combinations than AA/KK, i think he has a big pair here alot more. can anyone convince me my river raise was good against a tightish player? he just bet so small it made me think AK, but i doubt he plays pre/flop/turn like this with AK. if he would have pushed riv i think i would have considered folding.

Tough to say with all the meta-game you guys play with. Assuming he's a good tight player I guess it's bad because what is he really calling you with that you beat? I would think with AK you would bet the turn so he probably doesn't think you're stealing the pot with it if he had it and would fold.

But I dunno if I should be talking with my small stakes perspective. Actually, I'm really not sure why I answer your strategy posts...

He did play this awkwardly. He smooth-calls the re-raiser with you to act and then plays so passively post flop. How does this guy make money...wel besides this hand? Smile Still, I think this is just a call for you. I think he lets go of QQ- on the turn. So like you said - it's AK/AA/KK and you have zero fold equity. Pushing can only be -EV.

believe it or not, hearing any reasonably constructed arguments from small stakes players helps to keep me grounded somwhat..its also useful for you to walk through the though processes

Why? I think it's reasonable for him to play AK this way, although most ppl tend to 4bet AK pf in this situation.

I think your line is fine. For 100bb's in a 3bet pot I have no problem going broke here to a higher set.

I'm very surprised this guy wouldn't try to get more money in the pot with AA/KK. So I think the raise is good.

thirded. His line is awfully strange, were you worried at any point? I get a feeling only a better hand might play it like this feeling we are going to do the betting for them?

"was i worried at any point?'
yes, i checked the turn because i was thinking i was behind. i only pushed because i thought his river bet was too small to be AA/KK, but then i instantly regretted pushing.

to those saying the river push is good.....care to put the guy on a range that makes raising good? i think if its aa/kk/aks im like 50/50, but AK usually play the first streets differently so it has to be weighted less than average.

You seriously think he has A-A or K-K more often than A-K or the occasional 5-5?

gabe, the original preflop reraise, is he a tight raiser or what? because if he is and villian knows this, then villian just threw his hand face up by just calling the reraise OOP preflop (assuming villian is somewhat solid) - he has to have QQ/KK/AA (maybe JJ sometimes, but probably not) here, any solid TAG 4-bets or folds AK preflop in this spot (especially because he's OOP). Given villians range you are WA/WB on the river, so a river flatcall is g00t. Although I would probably play the hand the same as you, but that doesnt make it right Smile

Id have shoved the river, but it certainly doesnt look the best play when you see it like this Confused
