My question is. Is there anyone out there that uses and Odds Calculator that is automatic for PokerStars? Are they worth it at all? I have never been very good at math on the fly. In fact quite frankly...I suck. If you're life depended on me figuring out pot odds. You'd be a dead man. I'm just interested in a program for information. Not to decide for me how to play a hand. I always trust my instinct in that regards.
Sometimes I feel like maybe plunking down a little change for one of these programs can help me elevate my game a bit.
All opinions welcome. Flamers can lick the leather cheerio. |

You don't need a lot of math on the fly if you can memorize. On the whole, I think it's best to get the math inside your head, rather than in an applet. Even if you have to translate it into some nonmathematical form in order for it to go in your head.
By that I mean you can store the odds in your head as objects in a list, rather than procedures you have to execute at the table. If that doesn't clarify anyhing, I can elaborate.
I'm (not very pro-actively) trying to get some of the other code monkeys around here to collaborate on some Poker Tools that FTR types would dig. I think I'll organize my thoughts and put a topic in here. |

You don't suck at math, I promise! You just think you suck at math because your teachers told you to figure out how fast a person walking to the bathroom on a moving train from Baltimore to Bost... you see where I'm headed with this. Poker actually makes math fun again, you should give it another shot. Here's a fun one: if I'm making about $12/hr. per table and I play three tables at a time, does that mean I can quit my day job? See: fun math!
And, as others have suggested, you can always do a lot of memorization if you won't want to try calculating. JeffreyGB posted this table on his website for calculating odds based on outs, I am sure there are hundreds more out there like it:

I use the pot odds table PS skin posted by mike4066 on FTR --- http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=33502
I modified mine ever so slightly to show the rebuy chip tray and a contrasting background for the hand and game number in the upper left corner. If you want that modified one, PM me.
IT ROCKS! |
