Amazing that I only liked one movie of Boondock's ...
Lefou may suck at poker with all of his minraises, but he has awesome taste in movies.
I credit him for reminding me of a bunch of these.
I'll bold the ones you must have, you can choose others for the rest, if you can think of better ones.
# - 2001: A Space Odyssey
A - Amadeus (American Beauty and American History X are acceptable only after Amadeus is purchased)
B - Blade Runner - complete lock, any other movie title is incorrect
C - Casablanca (Chinatown or A Clockwork Orange would be it if Casablanca started with another letter ... Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Clerks are only acceptable if you already own the above three, all of which are damn near perfect)
D - Die Hard + Dr. Strangelove (I don't care that that's two, don't make me choose between one of the best Kubrick movies and the best action movie ever made - Donnie Darko is only acceptable if you already own the above two, but I do own all three)
E - The Empire Strikes Back (not that into Star Wars, but its the best available - Eyes Wide Shut is a close second ... I can't believe a Star Wars movie is better than a Kubrick movie, but its only because its the best Star Wars movie and one of Kubrick's least good ...)
F - A Fish Called Wanda (Fargo is more than acceptable ... similar case with Die Hard and Dr. Strangelove - I respect the second more and love both, but I'm chosing my favorites - Full Metal Jacket is most overrated Kubrick movie to me, but its still has many great moments, and is also very worthy)
G - The Godfather - complete lock, Rilla actually picked the right one ... stunning (second place is obviously the Godfather Part II)
H - TheHustler (I was a bit disappointed by it, but not a ton of options - if I were buying, I'd probably go with Hannah and Her Sisters, even though I haven't seen it)
I - It's a Wonderful Life
J - The Jerk (for lack of a better option - Jaws doesn't do it for me, like with most Speilburg movies) - credit to Fnord
K - Kill Bill, Volume 1 and 2 - Absolute ridiculous lock, especially on a bad letter
L - Life of Brian (Monty Python)
M - Mulholland Drive (Magnolia, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Moulin Rouge, and Manhattan are more than acceptable - great letter)
N - National Lampoon's Animal House (North by Northwest is very acceptable)
O - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Old School is a decent choice after buying this)
P - Pulp Fiction (Princess Bride is acceptable if you already have Pulp Fiction)
Q - Quiz Show - Love this movie, so underrated.
R - Raging Bull - DeNiro's performance is my pick for the best of all time.
S - The Shining (the Shawshank Redemption and Silence of the Lambs are close)
T - Taxi Driver - complete lock (The Terminator is acceptable only after purchasing Taxi Driver)
U - The Usual Suspects (not all that great, but I'm not a big fan of the rest of the U movies that I can think of)
V - Vertigo (a bad letter, but I don't even need to settle here, this would be the choice for the majority of letters - its phenominal)
W - The Wizard of Oz (amazingly I haven't seen it, but the next best I could think of was When Harry Met Sally ...)
X - X-men (I slightly prefered the first one - neither are all that great)
Y - Y Tu Mama Tambien (I haven't seen it, but I've heard good things, and there really are no other good choices - Young Guns sucks and I really don't like Mel Brooks movies)
Z - Zoolander (again, no good choices)
Start buying again Rilla, and make absolutely sure to get all of the bolded ones. |

Ugh, the Temple of Doom is awful too. Looks like the best I is Its a Wonderful Life to me.
I like Humph's choice for L best, Life is Beautiful. ... Hmm, sensing a theme ...
Mallrats though ... ick.

How did I miss this thread before? Damn. I love movies. Here's my list anyway, and I've leaned toward a bunch of slightly weird shit that probably isn't already in this thread, just to give some alternatives.
Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Bottle Rocket
Conversation, the
Dawn of the Dead (original version)
Eraserhead
Fog of War
Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, the
Haunting, the (original version)
Innocents, the
Jerk, the
King Kong
Legend of Drunken Master, the
Meet the Feebles
Night of the Hunter
Once Upon a Time in the West
Planet of the Apes (original version)
Quigley Down Under (OK, not a great movie, at all; but I couldn't think of any other Q's, and I have a soft spot for this one... great Saturday afternoon movie)
Re-animator
Spirited Away
Thing, the (remake, although I love them both... remake gets points for being disgusting)
Unforgiven
Vanishing, the (original version)
War of the Worlds (original version)
X... uh... got nothin'
Young Frankenstein

You need some zombie love.
these are already gone but
D- Dead Alive (best Peter Jackson movie ever, also bloodiest movie in cinematic history)
E - Evil dead 2 (better than 1)
Still hope even though there have been many good suggestions for the same letter.
S - Shawn of the dead
Oh yes last minute add-on. Steve McQueen is a badass. Cincinnati Kid was a great choice, I gotta see if its gonna be on in HD again anytime soon. |

Hell yeah. I already had three zombie movies on my list (if you count Re-animator as a zombie movie), but I second all of these as well... and for that matter, you can't go wrong with the original Night of the Living Dead, either. |

You must be a David Lynch fan, given your screen name as well, eh? But why on earth not include Mulholland Drive? |

Everyone seems to suggest Evil Dead but I looked at the little video previews on imdb and the first one doesnt look that good at all.
What am I missing?
I bought Fargo for F and didn't like it. It was the first movie to do me wrong so far.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind was alright the first time, but much better the second time through.
I bought Cinnci Kid for C but ended up watched Crash at a friends house and it was pretty good. So I'm gonna pretend like Crash was my C.
Movies en Route are Godfather and Dog Soilders.

Evil dead is an awesome triology of comedy and horror. Although the horror isn't of the frightening kind, it's just gory.
The third one is the most humorous and also IMHO the best in the series. Bruce Campbell is a master of physical comedy and if you haven't seen them I suggest you rent/buy/download them right away.
Just listen to these quotes
[In a passionate moment of romance]
Ash: Gimme some sugar, baby.
Arthur: Are all men from the future loud-mouthed braggarts?
Ash: Nope. Just me baby... Just me.
Ash: Lady, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask you to leave the store.
Possessed woman: Who the hell are you?
Ash: Name's Ash.
[cocks rifle]
Ash: Housewares.
Ash: Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.
Evil Ash: You're pissing me off, you ugly son of a bitch!
If you're still not convinced look what maddox wrote about it. And we all know he pisses on everything so this has to be reaaal good

Where do I start? Everything about this movie rules. I won't give away too much, but I'll say that the beginning of the movie is awesome. Campbell finds himself a prisoner in a castle, and gets thrown into a pit with a zombie. He kicks the zombie's ass with his chainsaw, climbs out of the pit, kicks some more ass, yells at some villagers, scares the shit out of this old guy, and then insults their hospitality |

Great Movie
One of the few movies where the commentary was insightful, granded it was done by the producers who like to ramble. But it pointed out great things, like the meaning and feeling that went into the line "SAUSAGES!" |

Yeah, big Lynch fan. I didn't include Mulholland (even though it's one of my favorites) just because I had seen it earlier in the thread. I was trying to go for a list of movies that maybe hadn't been recommended already. But I really like most of his movies - Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and the Elephant Man are all favorites. And Twin Peaks is one of my favorite TV series ever, hence the screen name. |

You didn't like "Fargo," 'rilla? Jeez. That's a classic. Do you like the Coens at all? Other movies of theirs that I love: Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Blood Simple, O Brother Where Art Thou, The Man Who Wasn't There, and The Big Lebowski. All brilliant. But maybe not to all tastes.
Hope you enjoy Dog Soldiers, that's a good Halloween movie. The monsters are pretty creepy and effective given the movie's small budget. |
