so I entered another tourney. I build up a stack. I get dealt KK. Raise 4-5x BB. Flop trips, perfect. 2 hearts on the board, not.
Someone in front of me makes a weak bet. I bet half of his stack. He pushes. I call. He has A2 hearts. Catches a heart on the river. I might even be somewhat okay with this, or at least calm, if thing slike this have not been happing to me *all day*. I might also be calm about it if he weren't now talking smack about it.
I want nothing more than to bust him out of the tourney right now. Fortunately, I'm on table 8, so it'll be awhile before we're broken up. Unfortunately, I'm down to a stack of 800 or so, while he has 3000+, so it'll at least take awhile. |

| I notice people are more willing to call a flush draw before the turn than after. For an all in I don't know. Maybe you made him pot commited, and he had to call. I know I've done, and had done, the same thing to me. Just a bad beat. |

yeah, I probably should have waited for the turn to come up a blank. It was relatively early in the tournament, so he was by no means pot committed (and would indeed have still had more than the 1000 chip start) so I don't think he was pot-committed.
I was very patient and worked my way up to 2000 chips, just ahead of the blinds with respect to being 'short-stacked' but this guy got an amazing hand with incredible action to put him up to 13000 chips with 75/150 blinds. 5-way AI - AA v KK v AK v QQ v QJ - with this kid having the AA. I eventually was blinded away after an hour of seeing mostly T5o. |

| i think you did the right thing. raised preflop, got a caller. made your set and reraised a flush drawer. got him to push with the percentages in your favor. he gambled and got lucky. |

| Agree, you played it fine. If you wait and the turn's a blank, great, but if it's a heart and the guy comes at you you have a really tough decision. |

Should I have pushed all-in pre-flop instead of betting ~50% of my stack? |

I wouldn't be terribly worried about the straight, and more worried about the flush.
I wonder about being passive with a 2-suited board after hitting a set. I'm more inclined to rep TP or maybe an over-pair with that board so if the flush also pairs the board, my FH would tend to be better hidden.
If a club came down on the turn and he bet hard what would you have done? |

Given that these twerps call and semi-bluff all-in on their flush draws anyway, I figured I may as well keep the calling station (who is likely drawing dead or *very* thin) along for the ride. I probably should have raised the flop to 200 and hope he hung around.
Also consider that if he hits his flush, he might give me a cheap showdown. The weak/passive players too often under-bet their near nut hands for value. Checking the turn and going half-pot or less on the river wouldn't surprise me.
In short, I'm making a small mistake on the flop to give both of them the chance to make a bigger mistake on the Turn/River. |
