How do you learn this?

I thought of this from a post in another thread, but it made me think... How do you guys analyze hands so effectively while they are going on? I can look back on a hand history and find damn near every mistake I make in a misplayed hand, or one I thought I played well. But as it is going, I just overlook things, ie: not raising enough, giving a freecard, betting when I should check, calling when I should raise.... etc.

A perfect example was a 350 some person MTT i played a while ago, at the FT, 8 people left and I get QQ. I dont remember perfectly, but I know the blinds were ~2/4000 and we (me and villain) had roughly 100K stacks. It gets to me and there is a raise of ~20K. I reraise to 60K, and he raises me all in. I call, he has AKo and I lose the flip and am eliminated. Afterwards, I thought, Instead of commiting myself by putting 60% of my chips in the pot, why not just push and maybe he lays it down. Probably not at a low level MTT, but who knows. Also, this mostly occurs for me online-- live where I can SEE the other players, SEE the chip stacks, SEE their reactions and their previous play more vividly, I dont make these mistakes. Also, admittedly, online makes it too easy to play some music and log onto FTR.

Im sure the common answer is going to be experience, Im just wondering what others have done if they have gone through this.

Personally I think risking a stack that size with the blinds as small as they were compared to your stack is pretty risky. He showed a very sizeable aggression, betting 5BB, that's a strong/very strong bet at any level, and take that into consideration. You were delt a monster, but you should have expected a monster back.

I'm not really sure about how to play QQ specifically against that kind of raise, because there's a very good chance you could be up against AA, or KK. Even if you just called and he missed the flop, he most likely would have bet very strong into you again. In this situation I'd only be looking to make your play if this guy has been recklessly throwing these kinds of bets at a majority of the hands he plays... in that case you can assume he's over playing more marginal hands.

Again, personally I've started to formulate a group of hands I'm willing to play in certain situations and unless I'm very confident I've got someone dominated, I'm always looking for a way out if I get a lot of action back. This player had a lot of chips and wasn't looking to make a desperate move. Niether were you so a lot of times you should be looking for ways to get out of hands if they don't feel right, and look for openings where you can become the aggressor.

I definitly know where you are coming from, that particular hand occured a while ago and I probably would play it differently now.
