pounds went fine. made little less than a buyin. it's possible i m getting a bit over-aggro at 2-5$ and suffering for it. truth is, I don't think so, feels like i m just playing good laggy poker right now and getting kicked in the nuts.
ya the 1st one felt EXACTLY like A8 or 89. what else does he have? i don t think he s EVER bluffing here so what does that leave? 8T looking to extract from AK? |

God I dunno man.
Maybe it's time to really start analyzing some things?
Just played a few hands vs WHALES and in the span of 65 hands I rivered top 2 with AQ on AJXXQ board (no flush). Fish leads into me, I make a small raise, he clicks it back...
Then vs a guy who hadn't won a pot in a while, I call full pot on turn with the 2nd nuts on AQKx with 4 hearts and a stationy villain overcalls.
Guy who potted the turn then 2x overbet shoves the river and I have JT with Th... I tank and fold and other villain calls with 7 hi flush and ships the pot.
Very next hand, after tilty guy has busted and table is HU, I after villain limps btn (as he does from every position, running a solid 63/0), I lead w 57o on 478r board. Turn brings another 7 and I lead for full pot - villain snap calls. Riv brings a 2 of hearts that brings running flush. After seeing the big calls villain has made I bet 120 into 80 and villain INSTA min-raises. So board is 47872 and I have 57.
I guess it's just that I've now dropped 13kish withhout a winning session in 10 days... Do any of these hands seem easy to ppl? |

blaaah running bad sucks dude, I feel your pain. I'm downswinging too.
As for the hands. Hand 1 given whale status I prob just call it off after CiB.
Hand 2: good fold, I mean I can't imagine a) the guy betting bluffing into two ppl b) the guy calling behind you screws you up hard. ul though sick
Hand 3: mannnn you're beat hard here. dump it. |

holy FUCK
1st time in a LOOOOONG time I've felt compelled to get myself to tilt-quit from feeling like batshit insane.
I suppose it's partly the accumulated frustration of the quick and nasty downswing but JEEZUS. I only got about 450 hands into a fucking donk-ridden session but I think it's just too dangerous for me to continue. I feel like a complete monkey.
The session started out with me losing AK to AQ and then losing with 2 pair to a rivered gutter by a bad laggy reg.
It’s sickening how close I came to folding this on the river. Oh well 5-1 with trips is good enough to call I suppose. Thing is, vs a passive player (villain was 60/1/.5) I'm almost never good so calling kind of made me throw up.

Going into the rest of it is kind of pointless ; sets getting drawn out on by combo draws and overpairs getting rivered when I'm priced in vs villain with wide ranges.
I'm worried this will affect my ability to grind ; I already took a few days off to clear my head and dropping another 10 buyins in my 1st 2 days back is just too much. The games have been crazy good but it's just not a good idea to play when tilty. I'm lucky that my BR is healthy enough to where I don't need to move down but I might do that just until this shit slows the fuck down.
The worst part is when it fucks with your ability to correctly gauge ppl's ranges. Fuck me. |

buyin 110 pounds, 400ish players
So I had said I was done posting results but I feel like posting this just to laugh at variance.
This may be the most disappointing month for me since I started playing. I really felt like I turned a corner at the beginning of the month. Since the top of the "spike" in the graph, W$@SD has been 34% :

Much of this has been in pounds, so the amounts are about 1.5x what you see on the graph.
I've gotten more aggro as I've gotten to know the player pool at the games I've been playing since moving up and feel like for almost the entire downward spiral I've been playing close to my A game. Just today I made what I think was my 1st total spew in over a month, but tbh I don't mind it since I think villain always had stone cold nuts or air.
I mentioned earlier that it worried me that my hand-reading would be off because of ppl "always" having the nuts. Well, I've been talking through some of my play with a student who I've been working with a whole bunch since early Sep and my handreading is still good. Problem is, it's always something like "OK gotta bet this turn. Hmm bottom card paired on the river. He's donkish enough to call 2 streets with bottom pair but I definitely have to value-bet vs his range. Oh fuck. He shoved. Oh well I'm getting a million to 1 I call... FUCK ME."
It's become like a broken record. Today for example, I played for a couple hours, felt like I played well, checked Poker Tracker expecting to be about breakeven and discovered that I was down 2k. It just hasn't stopped since the start of this shit about 12 days ago. |

How hard can it be to do something for 4 hours a day?
Throughout my life, when I've gotten really involved in something, I've been kind of maniacal. As in, 6-8 hours a day outside of "normal stuff" (school, jobs, whatever).
I've been getting better at grinding poker over the past few months. In fact, I've come a long ways towards being emotionally stable at the tables, leaving my ego behind, etc. This has lead to an easier time putting in longer hours.
Still, I'd say my normal day of poker rarely lasts longer than 2-3 hours. There is absolutely NO reason why I can't bump this up and improve my stamina so for the next 3 weeks or so, I'm gonna track my progress to see if I can average 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, playing close to my A game.
This may seem a bit ridiculous to some of you who are grinding 40+ hrs a week but, what can I say, baby steps?
Hopefully tonight I'll have a solid update. |

Don't discount the fact that you play a lot more tables than a lot of people. I'd say lots of ppl that are putting in so many hours are playing maybe 6-8 tables and you're playing 14 which I'm sure can get to be somewhat stressful at times?
Either way though, good luck I hope you can get the hours in! |

ya that s true griffey
After just getting kicked in the nuts over and over again I'm gonna play 1-2 ($, euros and pounds) for a while just to wright the ship.
Just put in a 3.5 hr session that felt pretty easy despite AA being -2.5 buyins overall. I think losing buyin after buyin had me pretty tilted at 2-5 so I'll wait till I can grind a decent profit over a few days at 1-2 or till I see a good game to play 2-5 for a while.
If I can get in another quick session later on tonight, it's mission accomplished for 2day. |

Brutal hand.. blah.
Good to know he takes this line though. I guess he's trying to rep a slowplayed overpair, but flatting UTG. Doesn't make much sense though, as I'd expect him to like 4-bet all his good hands if he's 3-bet when he opened UTG.
You playing more 5/10 this month? |

Also managed to take down the 10k guaranteed (pounds) for about 5k$.
Ship it imo... and FU downswing. |

The 10k gtd which starts at 3pm eastern and is 55 pound buyin. 1st place is like 5k usually. There's a 7k gtd which is 35 pound buyin. The sunday 40k gtd is 110 pound and 1st was 19k (which i luckboxed). There's usually a ton of overlay on the sunday one and the play is obviously mindboggling. |

So just wrapped up another great session. If I can play as well as I did today on a regular basis I don't see anything stopping me for a good while.
Unfortunately, sets lost me 2k - twice in on flop vs bare overpairs for 300bb pots but whatever, there's nothing to be done about that. Important thing is I got in a 3 hr + long session with basically no spewing, quality hand reading and pretty good plays all around.
If you include last night's drunken tirade session till 6 am, I'm well over my 4 hr/day goal for the week, leaving me only 1 day left of 4 hrs of playing to reach 20 hrs in 5 days (big news for a poker slacker like me!).
I've been playing the lower games just to steady myself after that vicious spike downwards and mixing in about 1/3rd 2-5 and 5-10 when the games look good. Hopefully I can keep up my good play. |

End of week 1 of my new goal of improving stamina. Things went well. Took Sat off and played a shortish session today.
I think I played steadier and smarter this week than I have in a while. This week I hope to play 4 hrs, 5 times again and maybe put in smallish sessions on "off" days since a big promotion is wrapping up soon and I'm in position to win a decent bit of cash if I grind well.
Here was today's biggest hand :
Villain was running about 30/17 and INSTA-bet river. If he had taken a few seconds and bet a stranger amount (either really big or really small) I think I would've folded, but it just looked too much like a desperate bluff trying to rep 89.
Table "Eightofhearts" Seat 3 is the button.
Seat 1: kidkitty ($472 in chips)
Seat 2: hjalte99 ($480 in chips)
Seat 3: cheater12 ($345 in chips)
Seat 4: Kaiser ($522.15 in chips)
Seat 5: cleanuout ($500 in chips)
Seat 6: HERO ($511.40 in chips)
Kaiser: posts small blind $2
cleanuout: posts big blind $5
----- HOLE CARDS -----
dealt to HERO
HERO: raises to $17
kidkitty: folds
hjalte99: calls $17
cheater12: folds
Kaiser: folds
cleanuout: folds
----- FLOP -----
HERO: bets $32
hjalte99: calls $32
----- TURN -----
HERO: bets $91
hjalte99: calls $91
----- RIVER -----
HERO: checks
hjalte99: bets $200
HERO: calls $200
----- SHOW DOWN -----
hjalte99: shows (A Pair of Nines, Ace high)
HERO: shows (A Pair of Nines, Ace high)
HERO collected $684 from Main pot |

Day 1 of week 2 :
Success. Played well, although didn't run great and put in over 4 hrs. Managed to find an unreal 5/10 table really late tonight and unfortunately I'm just too tired to keep playing. But happy with things overall. |

Nice.. how did 5/10 go?
Mannn.. I need to take more shots at 10/20 and stuff when the games are good. I just feel like I play like such a nitfest when I take a shot. |

ya playing like a nitfest is prob why I've typically had zero variance and always seem to profit
I played 100 hands or so and made about half a buyin at 5-10
Geo was playing and - MAN - for a while it really looked like he was trying to empty his BR as fast as humanly possible. |

Overall lots of success today
Only downer was that I played pretty badly during a late-night session. I made 2 big calls that I really don't hate (either they had nuts or busted draw and there were a million busted draws and 1 nut hand) but beyond that, just didn't feel like I had that fire.
It's important that I not let the desire to reach "X # of hours" goals get in the way of good self-management. |

Just finished another successful day (at 5:30 am...)
Played 4 hrs+ for the 3rd day straight and played awesome. In the afternoon session I lost boat over boat twice and AA into KK 200bb's deep but still managed to grind out a small profit.
Then I crushed the late-night games, included some sick plo ownage for a bunch of buyins.
Things are good. |

oooooh.. I didn't know you were playing PLO.. which limits?
I was playing 200nl PLO a bit trying to learn and stuff... the variance is kinda sickening though. I worry too much about tilt being induced from PLO variance. |

when there aren't many nl games running I pop up a couple plo tables
usually 1-2 6 max and 1-2 HU. I'm not very good, but random gamblers playing that game is just the most mind-blowingly +EV thing to experience...
Alex : you were talking about the cruise imo? |

Just wrapping up a grotesque session.
It was the perfect storm really for a gross day : didn't really feel like playing in the 1st place, felt tilted because of some life-stuff, got 2 outered all in on the turn to be chip leader of the afternoon 100$ donkament, then got ai 3 consecutive times at nl500 w QQ in Btn vs blinds and BvB spots, never having the best hand.
Bleh, I wouldn't have played except for the fact that I took yesterday off...
Oh well, can't own things everyday. |

ok 2morrow I'm gonna do 2 things with 3 effects :
-play 4 hrs of cash games below 5-10
-play cash games until I bust from both afternoon donkaments
The 3 effects will be :
-playing like a jedi
-getting 3k hands in at cash
-saying FU to variance. Srsly, right now it's doing it's best to take away everything I've earned by owning the last little while. Fuck it imo. |

Just played for about 2.5 hrs and had to stop due to tilt
I should've prob made about 3k and instead was down about 500$. The very last hand was gross and just made me shut down my laptop.
I'm right on the verge of breaking through with so many things. The biggest one is managing when I play, how much I play and my emotional state. I feel like that's gotten soooo much better but the past 2 days have really challenged that assumption.
Today at the end I felt so much pent up rage that it scared me. I am nowhere near the emotional jedi that I need to be. I worry that had I played longer I would've started doing shit like open-shoving and 3-bet flop-shove bluffing to any raise.
Meh. |
