Busted out of the 3$R sat with this hand. Was it the right push in the situation?

Good push in the sence that you were ahead when you did it. That was a very bad call on his part. A reasonable player would have folded there.

Freeze out portions of tournies are not about pushing small edges.

My opinion, is yes, technically you were in the lead when you went AI, but it was a mistake because you should have THOUGHT you were beat at this point. The fact that you weren't was only a coincidence, considering how the hand played up to that point.

I was assuming he had a killer read because there is no way you can make this play without knowing the guy was drawing to a lower high card. There is the possibility that maybe a midpair would fold to that bet but this type of move is better used when you have the guy massively outstacked and his tourney life depends on this call. I didn't realize this at first but it is still in the really early stages of the freezeout where everyone is still in it, calling stations, maniacs, they are all still there.... even more of a reason not to try to force a fold.

I had a very strong image at the table, this guy was playing a lot of junk and cold calling me, I put him on nothing but my question is, is this still the right push?

By no means was I playing "any 2 poker" or "who has the bigger balls" I just felt I was going to out play him on the hand. I thought at best he had a ten, and was most likely drawing. It was more of a semi bluff, and I was in need of doubling up and it WAS NOT a freeze out tourney. I did not double up before the break and was in need of a chip boost. It might have not been the best move, but in the situation it seemed like the right move.

Slow down after the bluff attempt on the flop. Dont piss away your chips on this hand.

Like 'rilla said you want to push with your big edges... he could have reasonably had you drawing to 6 outs if he had a K. Your first goal is survival in the beginnings of the freezeout, you don't want to put your chips at risk without a strong hand.
