GMML - HALF ASS SUPERNOVA 2009.
-----------------------------
Old stuff:
Yeah hi this is my second operation thread (maybe third). I know it's becoming a style to start a thread, give up, then start a new one. But basically I just wanted to make this to track my progress trying to become good at donkaments. I tried to start again by playing cash/sngs a few weeks ago, but absolutely hated it. Then I decided to give some low stakes MTTs a try. I find them to be more fun (so far) rather than just grinding and grinding.
Goals? I don't know. Like I said I just want this thread mainly to track my progress, so we will see if things get serious. Basically here are my starting stuff:
BR: $300.
- I plan on following a 40-50 buyin rule for these donkaments, so I will play $8 and less until I hit $500 and will start including $10s. I'm not really very good at MTT poker yet, but I've read soupie's amazing guide twice and hope gaining experience will help. Once my BR starts getting larger I'll up my BR management to 70-100 buyins, but for now there's just no way I am going to be that strict. I probably still will play a few $10s, but just not as often.
- I am not going to play more than 4 tournaments at a time. I am mainly doing this to focus my reads and learning. I will probably expand this to 5-6 once I start to get in the drift but none more than that for now.
I've been giving this a lot of thought lately and just thought I'd try 'er out. So I guess it's official now. I'm going to be laid back about it though, so not setting any x amount of tournaments per week. I'll try to update everyday I play some, so here we gooooo.
--------------------------
New goals on 10/5/08:
1) FINAL TABLE
2) TOP 3
3) WIN AN MTT
4) 4 FIGURE SCORE
5) 5 FIGURE SCORE |

September 8th:
Yeah so it was a good start. Actually won my first ever MTT, which was awesome. I know it wasn't a real donkament, since it was a $4.40 180, but I was still pumped. Think my ROI in the $4.40s is sustainable? I also took 3rd in a $5 90 man on Full Tilt, was playing very well but just wasn't my tournament to win. I will def take some shot sat $11s now, hope to keep running well!
(This graph doesn't include a $1 5card draw tournament that I finished ootm.)

September 9th:
HELLO RED. Do I have to say today sucked? Nah. I ran sooooo bad it's stupid. I got hit in the deck with cards in a few, but was getting sucked out on a lot. Was chip leader in a $11 $20k gauranteed, then AK ran into KK, 3 hands later AK into AA. Out. I had a couple questionable plays but to be honest I played pretty straight forward/fine and nothing worked. Nah fuck that I played good and just ran like ass. Meh, crappy day.

the last few sessions i played of cash i felt like i was going utterly insane! figured i'd give playing mtts a semi-serious try
congrats on the finish even though i bet it feels like a loss. a couple months ago i played in a $65 live freezeout at a casino and also donked off in 3rd. it was such a bad feeling seeing as i had like a 5:1 lead over the last 2 players. was only my second live tournament and the payouts were so top heavy, i won like 185 and first was over 800. |

yeah the one i played was top heavy too. first was $2200, second was $1100, and third was like $535 or something. when we were 3-way there was like 25 big blinds at the table, i probably should have suggested a chop. |

Didn't play on the 10th or 11th.
Sept 12:
Plus I bubbled a $2 omaha8 tourn. Flopped the NUTS with the nut lo draw and came runner runner flush for a monster pot. Yeah so I made $0 today. Wheeeeeee. I think I am too agro when it gets down to the final 2/3 tables, especially if I am a short stack. I just try to pounce on any situation I think I should and any ace looks too good to me. Patience, patience, patience. Well timed aggression, not reckless aggression. I probably need to tone down my aggression a bit. I was down like 30 bucks on the day then took 5th in a stupid $5 Full Tilt 90 man. Was chip leader heading into the final table then got coolered out of it... A8 v 77, KQ v AKs, AKs v KK, goodbye. All against the same luckbox too. I kinda want to win money next time I play. Bye.

Starting to hate this game. So sick lolz. So silly going deep and busting in like 20th place in a $5 and $3 MTT. I want to win damnit.
But on a better note, I ran well in the FTR 2nl game:

I got the Poker Mindset and Theory of Poker today from the Stars FPP store. Wheeeeee. I'm excited to read them, and I heard that the Poker Mindset was really good. I've never really read a poker book before, just picked up stuff here and there. Can't really hurt! I have HOH1, which I guess would be more geared towards donkaments, but never really read it. Maybe once I read these I'll finally look through it and get HOH2 and 3 since I have a ton of Stars FPPs to burn. Not sure if I am playing at all today because I want to read and have a ton of stuff I've been putting off all week, but we shall see.
Also, I just want to clarify something. I could (and almost have tbh) deposit a large enough roll to be playing larger tournaments. I have the money and it's only a click away, but I want to learn these damn things. I'm not really good at mtt poker, so I figure might as well start from the bottom and work my way up. Plus I would rather be losing with a $500 bankroll rather than donking my money away at higher buyins. It's very very frustrating and sometimes I feel like I am wasting my time, but I want to learn good br management and the basic principles. I'm not really sure why I wrote that last paragraph, I think I am just trying to tell myself it's better to learn this way, or something. Hopefully my score is around the corner and I start to get better at these stupid things so I can say wheeeeeeeeeeeee! |

update?
I own both HOH1 and HOH2 and haven't read either of them. I'm so lazy. I really do think I've learned most of what I need to know about donkaments from FTR, so I have no motivation to read them. I mean, obviously it would benefit me to read them, but I don't think it's that important right now. Umm plus I'm lazy ... |

| Court, they're great at reminding you of what you already know, but more than anything they're in a different class of readability to any other (instructional) poker book I've read. |

i have fans! i haven't been playing as much and didn't feel like post little screen shots with only a few per day or something. i have played like 60 or so tourns in 15 days, and am up only like $170.
also started reading the poker mindset, about half way through it. pretty good, reinforces a lot of stuff i learned at ftr, but has some other new stuff and i's still a good read. |

GL with your operation GMML! The donkaments are no doubt very profitable.
But the variance is huge in MTT's, so i wouldn't let a long string of OOTM finishes be too discouraging! |

| I play donkaments when I lose in cash games. That week I played donkaments, just because I was losing cash, and made money back with donkaments. GL, these things are very profitable because people move in like there's no tommorow. Sometimes it seems like a free money. Even at 100$ buy ins, you see such retarded plays that you can't believe it. GL with your operation |

Haven't updated this thing in a while. Mainly because it's tedious but also because I haven't played as frequently. Let's see, it's been a month and a day since I started this, here are all my stats since then:
So I've won like $316, not bad I guess starting with a $300 roll. My most recent rush was 17th in a $11 Stars tourney with 2800 players. 1st was $5300, 17th paid me $195. Oh well, I played good and at the final 2 tables I lost 2 races:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t16000 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver Cards)
saw flop|saw showdown
Hero (t146111)
MP2 (t137051)
MP3 (t102090)
CO (t77672)
Button (t88252)
SB (t39075)
BB (t138655)
UTG (t93702)
UTG+1 (t46272)
Preflop: Hero is MP1 with , .
2 folds, Hero raises to t123456, 4 folds, SB calls t30275 (All-In), 1 fold.
Flop: (t160131) , , (2 players, 1 all-in)
Turn: (t160131) (2 players, 1 all-in)
River: (t160131) (2 players, 1 all-in)
Final Pot: t67750
SB has Ac Jc (one pair, jacks).
Hero has 4c 4s (one pair, fours).
Outcome: Hero wins t92381. SB wins t67750.
and
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20000 (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver Cards)
saw flop|saw showdown
MP2 (t278293)
MP3 (t204915)
CO (t100651)
Button (t197404)
SB (t178574)
BB (t1098174)
UTG (t157280)
Hero (t101836)
MP1 (t262694)
Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with , .
1 fold, Hero raises to t100835, 3 folds, CO calls t99651 (All-In), 3 folds.
Flop: (t208486) , , (2 players, 1 all-in)
Turn: (t208486) (2 players, 1 all-in)
River: (t208486) (2 players, 1 all-in)
Final Pot: t208302
Hero has Ac Qc (one pair, kings).
CO has Td Ts (two pair, kings and tens).
Outcome: CO wins t208302. Hero wins t184.
So wasn't my day I guess.
I've also been reading the poker mindset a lot more, almost done with it. Really good poker book and I highly recommend anyone to check it out. There is one thing that really stood out to me in there, about risk tolerance. Basically, I see myself making some loose calls or bad plays in $1 - $5 MTTs because the money doesn't mean as much to me I guess. There's a balance between playing too low and too high, and I'm just playing too low and becoming bored. I'm not going to play anything lower than $11, I doubt I'll go broke anyway. Maybe the occasional large $5 MTT here and there, but no more of this $1-4 nonsense! I won't be stupid and start grinding out the $55s+, but I know I am a good enough player to not be wasting my time with these penny donkaments.
So anyway, I'll update sometime later. |

In the past week I have played no donkaments except for the gauntlet. I think I'm up like $60 or something not counting the prop bets with spenda fish.
But I have been trying to learn some new games. I've found myself playing .5 / 1 HORSE on Stars when I'm bored, and it's been enjoyable. I am finding out that I am a pretty big fish at all of the games except Hold'em and Razz, especially Omaha 8. It's just that the people suck so bad at the low limits that the mistakes I do make aren't too bad. I've been reading up on strategy and posting some hands on the forums, so hopefully I can start pwnzoring.
I've also thought about buying Poker Tracker for Omaha and Stud, but I'll wait and see how much I start playing. Don't really want to throw $100 at the program unless I am going to play a lot.
What a lame update. |

lol sample size, and lol i'm bad at these games.. but getting better. i quit my session today after only 25 or so hands cuz i took a couple bad beats in razz and started tilting. it's hard to get a lot of hands in for horse because it's rarely running and i don't like playing more than 2 tables, hard to keep track of cards. i have no idea for ideal stats for these games. i'm going read some strat and maybe watch some vids. |

| Yikes, I was cruisin' along and was up $130 over 1200 hands then just dropped $55 in my last session of only 100 or so hands. I played bad, ran bad, then just quit before I went on tilt. Losing $35 isn't a lot monetary wise but given the .5/1 limit it's a lot of lost pots in a short time! There were a couple sick hands at stud 8, I had [36]5789[4] and lost to [Tc4c]8A6c5c[2c] ... ick. There was also a worse high hand that capped 6th/7th. Oh well. Don't feel like posting screen shots right now. Bye! |

Been trying to learn PLO, not going well.
All at 25PL. My last 500 hand session was just absurd. Flopped nuts 4-5 times, didn't win any of them when the chips went in. A couple were just 60/40s against fd/sds when I flopped top set and stuff, but some were beauties! Whatever, oh also here is my total graph of PLO hands, I run bad when flipping. The first 1000 hands are just messing around with spenda/hartlin/swiggidy.

i really should have stopped at about hand 2600 last night... the last 5 buyin loss was due to unbelievable mega life monkey tilt. from now on i'm gonna do a 3 buyin loss stop or something because i just went nuts. i'll post some tilt hands later when i have more time.
oh and Bankroll Management is for suckers.
nah i was staked for the million with no risk to me. |

gmml hardly ever plays poker is the new title of this and probably will remain this for a while now.
bankroll is finally back over 4k now, about 4.5k total but it's hard to tell. i've been playing a decent amount since vegas.... decent for me anyway. i've only been 4 tabling though so it's been kinda hard to rack up a lot of hands. i'm starting to get more into the groove so i'll increase to 6 tables soon, or maybe i'll wait until 10k hands... not sure yet. anyway, here's a graph of the past couple weeks:
+600 donks/sng
+300 live
it's missing like 7k hands or something from june 25 - july 8 or so due to hd dying (along with billions of over files ). most of the graph is 50nl fr with some shots at 100nl and stuff. i've been playing like 10 hours per week, and hope to keep that up plus 1 day per week at local casino (ez monies).
anyway, i hardly ever play poker. |
