So I can't play my game because the xbox just freezes. Does this every happen with PS, or Nintendo, no. Here's the "trouble shooting"

Yes it does. Playstations have had a very poor defect rate historically. Particularly in their first few runs for a given generation. |

you will likely soon be experiencing the red ring of death. you'll know what it is.
when this happens, youtube it and youll see a bunch of people 'fixing' theirs. i just got mine, a few weeks after it started freezing on me, and i seem to have been able to fix it.
my theory on what it is, is microsoft decided to make some stuff shitty where they knew a super mild failure would occur and customers would have to spend money getting it repaired, and this is why we see the ring of death in newish 360s and why its easyish to fix.
my theory is probably wrong, but i like it |

Based on actually working for the 360 team, my guess would be they pushed too hard to beat PS3 to market and were willing to make some pretty aggressive decisions to get there.
As for Nintendo, they really haven't done anything aggressive/interesting hardwarewise other than the Wiimote in the last 10? years. Ok, they tried to leverage their handheld into the living room console.... They're more software and marketing focused. They also have pretty much avoided doing anything interesting in the online space.
If it wasn't for Blue Ray > HD-DVD Sony would be soooo fucked right now. |

| I just got my xbox 360 fixed for the first time in 8 months. The whole red ring of death thing doesn't get fixed quite as fast as they make it seem. |

| I turned it back on yestreday and it worked fine for 2+ hours. Now I can't even get a game loaded. I want to put my fist through the wall, but that's too -eV on multiple levels. |

Fun facts:
1) If you throw the CD there is a non zero chance it will break into 4-5 pieces.
2) Kicking the xbox may prevent the CD tray from closing.

I think I got the red ring of death, but I'm not sure. I was playing Bioshock and the disc was skipping pretty bad the whole time I was playing it. Then the red ring popped up so i shut it down.
Movies have played fine on it since but I haven't tryed any games on it yet. |
