Just a small question.
I don't have PokerTracker,but i have PokerOffice instead.
Do u think PokerOffice is a program that is good enough to keep using it or should i get PokerTracker instead?

Agreed - well said, all ten points good value.

Poker Tracker is great, I reckon I've only worked out 10% of what it can do, but I only have 500 hands in so far Smile

8. Blind play. You need to work on your play from the blinds. Alot of people don't know how much money they are losing when they limp in from the SB b/c its cheap. Too many times we get top pair w/ a weak kicker from the BB and don't get away from the hand when we should. We defend blinds too weak when we shouldn't. I suggest getting some sort of tracking software to see how your blind play measures up.

Les, great post.

In NL, would it be fair to suggest to most players that they simply fold SB unless they have something that would be playable from UTG or provides good implied odds such as a small PP? This is different in limit of course.

I suppose it's also worth (IMO) stressing the needed discipline to avoid calling raises with crapstuff in the BB, even if it's a minraise.

No, you are going to be getting odds to complete the small blinds fairly often but you don't need to do it with trash (Q4, J2 etc). You can still call with suited cards, one gappers etc. but you need to know that these hands are for making straight and flushes not pairs. Just because you hit a pair with your 56s does not mean that you should be at the showdown.

Wow I don't hang out in the beginner's circle much but I should! I just NOW read this and really needed it 2 days ago when I almost went bust again with the small br I had on PS.

I am actually keeping records now (using note pad Laughing ) and was doing great when I was following proper Bankroll Management, I mean I was up really up compared to my normal playing out of my bankroll and busting ways.

Then sure enough I took a good portion of my roll and played in the deep stack tournament Crying or Very sad I tried to resist b/c I knew it was way more than I could spend from my roll, but fail to.

Now that I plan on depositing 300 in 2 days to "get serious" about my game and go from there I really have to do everything it takes to not fall into my old habits because bad BR management is the main reason I think I go bust every month Sad

Fantastic overview Les. You game transforms when you internalize those lessons and make them your own. Any beginners wanting to get a quality game should post those concepts and keep finding ways to teach themselve, reteach themselves and internalize the concepts (however works best for them). The faster they do it, they faster they will become consistent, competent poker players.

GREAT!!
