How does one cope with a down-swing? I recently moved up from the $5.50 tables to the $11 ones. I'm suffering a large down-swing in my bankroll, I think due to bad luck more than anything. At the moment I can't seem get ITM at all. When I push into the BB I'm getting called by good (or at least better) hands and losing, when I'm calling pushes with better hands they are getting sucked out. I know all of this is part and parcel of poker, but at the $5.50 tables I have ROI +20%, but at the $11 tables I have a ROI of less than -30% Sad

I have run several push/fold hands through SNG Wiz and they look good. Perhaps there is the odd mistake, but I don't think I'm playing as terribly as the results suggest. I'm certainly not tilting.

Do I accept this is just variance and crack on, or level-down and try get back into the swing of winning?

There was a good thread about this a while back. It may be of help to you.

Hmm, thanks for the post. It's very strange as previously I played $11 tourneys and did quite well at them +20% ROI. I wasn't playing ICM then, just making good reads.

But I've been seriously hammered now at the $11 tables. Perhaps a level down is in order for now... I'll have to think about that.

The main thing is to make sure that you are really playing your A game. Do this by reviewing hands in SNG Wiz and posting hands (or the occasional tourney) here for review.

If you are playing your A game and you're just being bitten by the variance monster, all you can really do is keep on making sure that you're playing as best as you can.

Of course, there is the Bankroll Management question where you need to set a limit to move down if you run really bad. Eg. if you're playing the $11s and drop below (say) $250 BR, you might move down to the $5.50s until you build back up to 30 buyins for the $11s again.

I would post my tourneys but I don't seem to have access to a complete hand history from Tower Gaming. I think instead they store them on some central server and you can access individual hands through their "session browser". Perhaps when I get home from work today I will work on a way of getting my hand histories so I can post them.

I can't seem to get PT3 to recognise that Tower Gaming is actually an Ongame skin. Any ideas anyone?

I can't get PT3 to do anything useful at all. I only purchased it so I could get the discount, as I only purchased PT2 around last December. I have gone back to using PT2 until they get the problems sorted with PT3. I'm sure it will be worth it eventually.

if you get the chance, read the poker mindset, you can get it through PStars with fpps, or buy it somewhere online. one of the best Poker Books ever written and def the best non-strategy book.
