what do you do when your bankroll goes down to around 10 buy ins?
my Bankroll Management has never been the best and I started out with around 30 buy ins at $5 level when I switched sites to PokerStars a few months back. After a slightly bad run of finishing out of the money, my bankroll now sits at around 10 buy ins and to be honest im a bit reluctant to keep playing incase I go broke.
what do you do when you get to this level? should you top up your bankroll? keep playing and risk going bust, then top up? any ideas? I dont know what would be best!! |

| Personally I think its time to redeposit some $$$. Ten buy ins just isnt a sufficiant role. I dont know if your site offers buy ins lower than five, but you may want to think about moving down if possible. But being properly rolled is not something that anybody can afford not to be. |

I know this a real noob question, but how much of a bankroll should I have for $10 sit & gos?
I've been playing really well, and was hopping between $5 and $10 tournaments. I'm definitely under-rolled for the step up, but I'm making money at the moment and think it might be worth putting more money in to have a good go at the higher level. |

| At what point then should you consider adding more cash to your bankroll? (how many buy ins?) |

I'm of the thought that if you're able to add to your bankroll then it isn't the figures you're looking at.
If you're able to redeposit if you drop your 10 buy ins, then your bankroll isn't 10 buy ins? |

good point.
Im pretty tight for cash this month due to bills etc etc.
think im gonna see what I can do with the 10 buy ins I've got left and see if I can build it back up and if , at the end of the month, If im still needing to redeposit (which is likely lol) I will.
cheers. |

Personally, I'd consider moving down a level until you can afford redeposit. A bad run could see your bankroll evaporate. |

im on PokerStars and dont like turbos so can only play the $5.50's. (dont want to move sites due to the fact that iv nearly reached my Bonus on PS so that'll increase my roll aswell)
I'll have money at the end of Oct to redeposit and refill my bankroll if I need to. |

If you can reload without too much pain, then I wouldn't stress too much, I'd keep on playing the $5.50s at PS. Whilst BR management is very important, when you're playing low buyins it's more to establish good future habits and prevent you from chasing your losses at bigger tourneys (look on Sharkscope and you'll see this ALL THE TIME).
Just make sure you're not playing scared because you only have 10 buyins and are worried about going busto... |

Yeah I'll be able to reload no problem at the end of the month so im gonna play without any fear and see If I can get my bankroll back up a bit.
Busy for the next few days then got a week off work so I plan on starting "Operation 10 buy ins" this weekend or start of next week. Looking forward to it. |

As I said before, I've been playing really well recntly, and have started to take my game much more seriously.
For the last year or so I've been more or less a break even player on the $5 tables, without any thoughts about proper tactics, Bankroll etc. Any big wins I'd just withdraw the money from.
After a good run on mtts, I withdrew all my bankroll, and then on Sunday re-deposited $40. I've since moved almost $30 over to sports, and my poker bankroll is at a decent sized $150.
I've only been playing sngs, mostly at $10, but today I tried my hand at $20 tables. I know I'm totally under-rolled, but I'm wondering whether I should be looking to play the $20s in an attmpt to get a bankroll to play the $10s properly, or whether I should just try to grind my way up through the levels.
Any advice appreciated, but please bear in mind I'm relatively new on the scene, and so though I know how to play a game of poker, I don't necessarily know how to play poker properly (hope that makes sense) |

I think you should try and grind it out at the $5's as a bad run could see you broke.
When I first started about year and a half ago I would constantly have to refill every few months. I would l0se a game or 2 and then go up a few levels to try and build a decent bankroll so I could play comfortably at the $5's but I would always end up losing my bankroll.
I wll be able to refill my bankroll at the end of the month so Im just gonna have fun seeing if I can build it back up to a decent level with only 10 buy ins...
I wouldnt advise moving up levels until
1. your bankroll can support it and...
2. you've proved yourself at the $5's. |

This is completely backwards. Playing two levels above your roll because you want to be able to afford to play one level above your roll is just pleading with variance to come in and scoop you into busto-land. Your most realistic option (assuming you don't like the idea of redepositing) is to play the $5s until you build up a roll for the $10s. If you can't be that patient, then play the $10s, but playing the $20s because you're too impatient to play the $5s is just crazy. |

Yea, I read this and said to myself, this doesn't make any sense. You should be grinding the $5 until you are around $300 in order to play the $10's. The idea is to have 30 buy-ins to play a certain SNG and some may say that you need more. Also, I am sensing that your next comment might be that you think that you will play better against better opponents instead of the donks. Don't be that guy. If you can't beat the donks then you can't beat the better players. You will make more money off of donks than good players. |
