This is a thread where you should post your bad beats. It is the general consensus of the familiars of FTR that we need to clean up the bad beat clutter in this forum. Bad beats are a fact of life and no one enjoys reading them but at the same time posting them is therapeutic.

So I have created this sticky to be the graveyard for bad beat stories. This is where bad beats should now come to die. The only bad beats that may be posted outside of this thread are amazingly hilarious bad beats but your general 2 outers or runner runner flushes go here.

You must learn that bad beats are the reasons why you are making money. If you dream of a world where no one lays any bad beats, it would be a fuggin grind that I sure as hell don't want to play in. Once you've accepted them, you simply brush them off and keep on chuggin.

STBY.

Here's one from the casino: (1/2 NL Hold Em)

Im first to act and I get Ah/Kd. I raise to $5 and get 2 callers.

Three players to the flop. Me, player A, and player B

Flop shows Ac/2d/Js. I lead off with a $5 bet. Player A calls, player B raises to $10. I call, player A calls.

Turn shows 9h. I bet $15. Player A folds, player B calls.

River shows 8c. I bet $15 again, player B calls.

I show my top pair, player B shows 2/8...takes me on two pair. The mere fact that he would raise a $5 bet and also call $15 on the turn with a pair of twos still baffles me to this day. He was on no flush draw.

First off, thanks for the great idea. Wonder what will happen to this forum without the constant bad beats flowing in. Anyway, best bad beat I have ever given:

4 way all in on the flop (playchip)

Flop: Q 10 7

Me: 35o
Player1: KK
Player2: Q5
Player3: J10

Turn: 3
River: 3

Was fairly funny, got yelled at for quite a while =P

Worst Ive ever taken was going out with AA vs KK in a $100 tournament on UB. For the stakes, not the odds.

Got JJ.
Flopped J A X
Bet hard.
Put my opponent on an A.
planned to checkraise the turn which was a random card, but he checked to.
River: 10. Bet 30 BBs.
Got raised all-in. Called.
He showed me KQ. Lost two buyins, the profit of the whole day (which was a good one).

Learned: Always bet hard on the turn.
Always watch out for possible straights and flushes.
DON`T GET SO AROUSED OF YOUR BIG HAND THAT YOU DON`T CONSIDER FOLDING.

Just beat out of a tourney on a rollercoaster hand. I went all-in (pushing aggressively, Rippy-style) with pocket 5s. One caller who had A10 suited. He hits a pair of aces first, then I make trip fives, but he runner-runners a flush to finish me off. Oh well. I like the move and almost liked the result... they just needed to stop dealing cards after the turn. Very Happy

Heh...my number 2 post in this thread...

Playing at a pretty loose .50/1.00 NL table, sitting with around 40 bucks. Get dealt KK in the hole UTG. I meant to bet 3 bucks, but I clicked raised before I hit the 3. Very LAgg guy raises to 5, and I in turn raise 15 more. He calls. Flop comes 2/9/10 rainbow. I push in the rest of my stack...about 20 more, and he calls(which nearly puts him all in)...river comes 7 and 8, he shows AJ.

I'm going to have to kill someone soon. I have taken the longest string of bad beats (or improbable beats) over the last couple days. I'm down like two hundred dollars through this. Here are some examples:

- this morning, have K5 on the big blind, flop two fives (and a three). Get called down and then raised on the river by someone who has... pocket threes.

- also this morning, have QK and bet on my pair of queens on the flop. Called down by a guy who held A6 and had only a pair of sixes, until he hit trips on the river and took all my money.

- yesterday in a SnG, knocked out early when I go all in with QQ, called by a guy with Q7 - and his 7 makes a straight.

This is just unbearable and unbelievable. I've lost every conceivable way during this span: guys sucking out with terrible hands; calling to the river with lots of outs (straight draw + flush draw + a middle pair, that sort of thing) and missing all of them; people calling pre-flop raises they shouldn't and then flopping lucky two pairs or whatever. Mixed in with this has been several periods where I just couldn't get a hand... a two hour stretch yesterday where, playing two tables, I didn't take a single pot (no lie, it was that bad). I'm close to burnout.

Thanks for listening to me vent.

Second time in one morning that I had some jackass call a pot-sized bet on the flop with a weak middle pair, and then make trips on me. I literally wanted to rip his stupid head off. At least this dumbass hit his before the river (so he didn't have to call TWO pot-sized bets).

dale if youre gonna play a hand raise it pre flop, the guy with the J6 would have probably folded and you would have won the hand, thats the risk with limping, so to avoid this in the future just raise it up

Ordinarily I'd agree with you completely, but a guy who calls a pot-sized bet with middle pair and a bad kicker is not a guy who spends a lot of time folding pre-flop, I would guess. I suppose if I had raised 3 or 5X BB, maybe.

Two diff. tables, just a few hands apart:

Table 1. Dealt aces, raised pot-sized (about 3XBB). Called by one player. Flop is rainbow rags with a 4 on it. He bets, I raise, he puts me all in and I call. He held: pocket 4s.

Table 2. Dealt 89o and playing for free from the blind. Flop is 893 rainbow. Another player bets, I raise, he re-raises me all in. I call. He held: pocket 3s.

Down: $45 today.

That is just ridiculous.

those really aren't bad beats. they gave you a chance to fold both times (3betting all in is never a bluff). you need to learn to make these laydowns.

Happened last night in a .25/.50 NL game

Dealt QcTc

2 Callers and myself on the PF. No raises I was in the CO, and the button and BB were in. Both opps where tight aggressive.

Flop [4s 4c Qh]

BB throws a min bet out, I raise 5X BB, Button folds, BB calls.
At this point I'm putting him on the 4 set since he is tight and would never have called my bet otherwise.

Turn [Qs]

Pretty happy with that! Got the nuts and go all in. Our stacks were pretty equal in size. I was up about about 20BB. He calls and I'm all set to take his chips

River [4h]

Son of a BITCH!!! Beat by the river!

Just knocked out of a SnG. Not big stakes so I don't really give a crap, but the hand was annoying. I'm in a pot with the big blind, who is also the big stack, having knocked out two players within the first four hands (!). I raise 3X BB from the button with pocket queens, and he is the only caller. Flop is a bunch of undercards. I bet the pot, he calls. Turn is another blank. I bet close to the pot, which is about half my remaining stack. He thinks and then raises me. I re-raise him, going all-in. He thinks again and calls. Flips over KQ (yes!)... river card is a king (noooooooo!). C'mon, like the big stack needs help from a 3 outer. Let him lose this one, poker gods!

Queens are my nemesis today. Just now in a ring game, button raises 5X BB... I call in the small blind with AK, and one other guy calls. I flop an ace... I bet half the pot (a little ginger, sniffing him out... I figure if he's on an underpair or a hand like mine, he'll just call). He calls. Turn is a queen. I bet again, he calls. I check the river and he checks (don't know why), showing down AQ for top two pair. NO MORE THREE OUTERS TODAY, POKER GODS. THANKYOUTHATISALL.

This one hurt. It was early in a 150 (or so) person tourney and I was doing pretty well. I thought nautilus117 was either trying to steal the pot or (rather poorly) slowplaying the flush. I was hoping for the latter, as he would call my raise. I'm not sure why I called the bet after the flop, but there was a lot of pot stealing going on... What would you have done here on the river?

If you are going to play a low middle pair on a 3-flushed flop (not that I am recommending that) you have to raise that on the flop to thin the field and/or find out that you are beat.

Combination bad beat/morning-long suckage. First off, I'm at a table with a guy who (unbeknownst to me - I just sat down) is playing any hand for any amount of money. He limps, he calls raises, whatever. So he comes into a pot where the flop is K22... the K and one of the 2s are diamonds. I'm playing 78 of diamonds in late position. He checks, there is a bet, I call it and so does he. Turn is another diamond. He checks, I bet 2/3 of the pot and he raises me a few dollars. I'm thinking maybe a higher flush but I want to see it out so I call. On the river he bets $5 and I call. At this point if he had the better flush I would just congratulate him and move on, but he holds K2o. Which he limped UTG. Unbelievable. I didn't say a word, just couldn't believe it.

Ever since then I can't get a hand that's worth a crap. It's like the shadow of this beat has fallen over my entire day of poker. I'm getting no pocket pairs except low ones (4s and 2s) that miss the flop when I am able to limp, but often I just have to fold because of position or a pre-flop raise. I've had AQ suited once and the flop missed me badly, had to fold it eventually. My most promising hand was K10 of spades, flop AQ of spades to go with it, but never got a jack or a spade and lost about $8 chasing (with good pot odds, but still). For about 45 minutes I played three tables at once, which is unusual for me, and folded nearly every hand on all three.

Poker can be immensely frustrating when the cards aren't coming.

Update: I finally get AK suited UTG, raise 3X BB and it folds all around. Net profit: 75 cents. Jesus Christ.

Update: this has been a very frustrating day. I've had a few good hands, always followed by something like this: hold 2 4 in the big blind, flop two pair (with a queen on the board)... bet the pot, called... turn is an 8, bet the pot, called again... river is another 8 so now this guy has me beat and I have to check/fold. Arrrrgh. Then I continue getting hands like Q7, K6, T4 for a couple hours. Net loss for today, about 180 BB. Maybe it's time to stop.

This is just getting ridiculous now. This morning I started off playing tight and solid, up about $5 ($25 buy-in room). I get KK in late position. A guy (aggressive player) raises 3xBB, and I re-raise him 4xBB. He calls without much hesitation. Turns out he called with QK suited... I had him dominated, but he flopped wall-to-wall diamonds for the flush. So annoying. Luckily for me he tried to slowplay, checking the turn and river after I bet the flop... my natural sense of caution led me to check behind on both streets and he only got my pre-flop raise and the continuation bet for his efforts.

This was just funny, not really a bad beat because I was dominated from the flop. Like the flopped quads weren't bad enough but I had to get beat also by the guy rivering a higher boat...

That's hideous. Got about the best flop you could hope for, barring a pair of threes, and you came in third? Wow.

These are the hands that start me to want to believe some of the conspiracy theorists. Not that online poker is rigged to the point of outright cheating, but in someway to make sure that a number of hands hit to jack up the potsize, hence, increasing the rake to the site. Checkout this hand.

wow!

What a ridiculous hand huh? Odds of flopping a str8 flush, I don't even want to know. Sad

The weird thing is that I have been playing online for real money since last September. And I normally do pretty well, but it seems like everytime I am attempting to clear a reload Bonus I hit a very long bad run of cards. Just about everytime I reload I am down after the Bonus clears or barely over what I began with. So the Bonus actually does nothing for me except get me close to even or a little better.

I am currently on a Bonus and crazy hands/bad luck have been hitting me hard. Just yesterday I flopped 2 pair 4 times, losing all 4 hands. Flopped trips and also lost; all within about 3 hours or so.

I play low limits and am currently down $200 on my current Bonus run (Bonus amount being $100) with a little over 150 hands to go to clear so there is a good chance I will still be down when I get there. Think I might stop reloading as this just occurs too often. Maybe it is just odd luck that my bad runs always seem to happen during a Bonus clearing, but it just seems odd. Don't get me wrong I'm not really complaining as I enjoy playing online just seems odd.

Anyone else see bad runs of cards during a Bonus clearing? Just curious to know if I am the only one that seems to experience this.

Well it's official, Party is trying to take all my money and drive me to suicide. After that winner above:

- guy flops a full house, I turn a flush... luckily (see new thread in this section) I folded, but still lost money on it obviously.

- another guy calls my 3xBB raise with pocket 6s, I have KQ... flops trips to my top pair (kings)... I river two pair and of course he takes all my money with a huge raise.

- Omaha game... I have sixes, flop the second best set... bet the pot and get one caller. Turn is a 9, putting two on the board, and making it so the only hands that beat me are 96, 92, or 99. And of course 96 is pretty unlikely, right? Not really, as it turns out. Lost all my money on that.

Down $50 in one f**king hour of play. This has got to be some kind of cosmic joke on me.

edit: And made it all back on one hand of Omaha. I think that's enough poker for a few hours.

edit: should have stuck to my word. I went back for more - my bankroll has been yo-yoing up and down as I alternate between bad beats and crazy bluffs. I raise with AQ and flop an ace... bet big... Mr. Short Stack goes all in on me with AJ, and gets a jack on the turn, of course. Next hand the flop is three clubs, I keep betting into a guy (who calls me - I think he had a high club) and he finally folds on the river, donating me $20 in the process. What kind of day is this? I feel like I am single-handedly reversing the laws of poker. If I hadn't taken down about $40 in bluffs today I'd be screaming mad, but instead I'm about even on the day.

(By the way, there is NOTHING as profitable as a fish who doesn't know a bluff from a real bet. Nothing. This guy sitting to my right who just spotted me $20 on one hand does the same thing every time we get in a pot together: he min bets the flop, I raise him, he calls. He checks the turn, I bet huge, he folds... or calls, then folds to my huge bet on the river. Three times now I've taken a pile off of him when he probably had me beat. I think I'd be out my entire buy-in at the table if it wasn't for him.)

Just another bad beat.. It kills me when I make a great read and am rewarded by losing everything. Oh well, 1 out of 23 times this kind of thing is just going to happen. I hope this turns out to be the low point of a huge slide I've been on for the past 3 weeks.

I'll post some hand histories for analysis later but for now let's just say that $25 NL 6max on Empire pwned me. Moved over to the full tables and got trounced again. Not my night.

Highlites:

1) AQs vs. AKo (6max, Ace on board, thought my kicker was good - shoulda known better ... he even pre-flop raised - sigh)

2) I sit down post the blind and get T7s. Flop comes K97. Checks around to me I bet the pot ($2). One caller. Turn ... another 7. Yay trips - bet the pot. River ... 9. Fullhouse for me. Of course, he has a 9 for a better fullhouse.

3) Full ring. Dealt 66 on the button - limp. SB pre-flop raises to $3. 3 callers, I call. 5 people going into the flop (yes, it should have been a good table for me). Flop comes T62. SB weak bets $3, folds to me. I re-raise to $12. He re-raises to $21 (you can see where this is going now). I go all-in. He had TT.

I suppose all of them could have been avoided. In total I think I got stacked 4 times last night. Oh well.

Just sharing my great night ....

Hi everyone, I've been looking around these boards for a while but didn't decide to sign up until today. Let's see, I play alot of home games with friends in university, but I've never played online before. Anyways, I had a bad beat yesterday night and I still can't figure out what I could've done better.

The game I'm playing is $20 NL Buy-In with $.25/$.50 blinds.
I am dealt: 88

Preflop: I am small blind and decide to limp. I've been raising $3-5 all night with pocket pairs but always got a caller who would start betting aggressively after the flop, and I never seem to hit a set so I just fold. About 4 others limped in.

Flop: 7 7 8

I flopped a boat! Knowing everyone at the table is pretty tight, I let them have a chance to catch something.

Turn: (7 7 8) A

I check again as I'm first position and everyone else still checks.

River: (7 7 8 A) 7

At this point, I was guessing no one would even call a $1 raise so I just check. To my surprise, the dealer suddenly raises $20. I immediately said, 'call and raise', but I noticed he was getting really excited at the thought that I was reraising so I knew I was in trouble. So I cancelled the raise and he flipped over a 7 for quads.

Thinking back, I'm not sure what I could've done. Preflop, I could've raised to push out any weak hands but everytime I've raised with pocket pair preflop, someone always went over-the-top all-in or would outdraw me on the flop. I've been playing with the person who beat me for a while and I know he's a maniac. I've gone all-in before with KQs and he would call with Q7o and hit a boat! I still remember the flop was something like 7-10-7-Q-5. He does absolutely ridiculous calls all the time and it astonishes everyone how he can catch the craziest things.

In the hand I was talking about, no matter how much I raised on the flop, it would not be able to push out his trip 7's, or on the turn, and obviously the river.

So ... I didn't actually think that these were bad beats. The second one was kinda a bad beat since he called the turn bet but I then went on to call his giant river bet which, afterwards, I thought was a bad play on my part. I put him on a King but when he check/called the flop I should have thought bottom/mid pair.

Hopefully I'll be able to get away from some of these in the future.
