So I plan on selling my 19" CRT because it takes up too much space and I don't play mmorpgs anymore.. and want to invest in a 21" flat panel monitor. I would loooove to get duals, but that is above my price range atm.

To those who have good flat panels, any good recomendations? I really don't want to pay much more than around $500. I hear Dell has really good monitors, but the lower the price, the more Hero would be interested.

Anyone have any links/suggestions/recoemmendations? THANKS.

Trickflow wins, thread over.

Yes, the 2001fp is the "default" poker player monitor, best bang for buck and runs @ 1600x1200 which is necessary for 4 tables with zero over lap.

http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/forum/poker-26050.htm Go to this page and find trickflows post..
Those are 2001FPs on his desk except the one on the far right which looks like a 2005sp (widescreen)

i got a new dell system w/ dual dell 20" lcds and really like them. it really helped my pokering quite a bit to get two 1600x1200 lcds, well worth the investment. to give you an idea, i found this deal before i ordered, which is now expired, but you should be able to find it for around that price i'll bet (under $400 shipped):

http://dealnews.com/deals/Dell-Ultra-Sharp-2001-FP-20-LCD-Monitor-for-371-shipped/116995.html

others also like the samsung 20" as well. i think gabe has samsung lcds.

but if your main point of buying them is to multitable, which it should be, the quality of the monitor doesn't matter nearly as much as the native resolution. unless you care about the crappy animation that some avatars have on some poker sites. the site i play at has minimal animation which i could care less about anyway. fuck that crap.

Okay, preparing myself for a snarky response here...but if I were to get the Dell 2001fp, would I need to get anything extra to run it w/ my laptop? It's a Compaq Evo from a few years ago that seems to max out at 1024/768--would I also need a new video card to run that monitor?

Ya the reason is purely for multi tabling/conserving space. I bought this CRT and new machine last year because I was hard into online video games. I don't really care about crisp graphics anymore. My number one priority is low price. I don't want to be buying some generic pos that comes with dead pixels though. Just want the one that's the best bang for my buck.

Also another question, you say you have duals.. that is out of my price range right now, but if I bought one of these Dells right now, could I buy another one later to dual link them? Do you have to purchase certain types to do this, or just buy two and get a cable/vid card that supports it? Hope you can understand my nub questions.

If you're interested in a widescreen flat panel, you can get a 20.1" BenQ for $300 (w/ free shipping) from newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824014105

You can fit 4 tables with no overlap.

I know it quadruples your budget, but just make a huge impulse purchase. I promise you won't regret it. And it looks really badass.

you need a video card that can support running dual monitors, so it has to have at least 2 output channels. i have a mid range radeon card, and it has 3: S-video, DVI and standard VGA. i hookup one monitor to the DVI and the other to the VGA. just make sure you have 2 outputs on the card and that the card supports 1600x1200 and you'll be fine.

why can't the effin poker rooms just make scalable/resizable table window sizes anyway. they have to know that more people would play more tables more often. why is it so important to them that the empty chairs at the tables stay the same size. i don't get it, i can't think of how they benefit from maintaining a minimum window size of 800x600. a few sites do miniview options, but it's much harder to infer a sense of position so they're a bit harder to play for some.

Isn't PokerStars working on this? In their test software you can make the tables as small or large as you want.

I should be fine then.. I have a rockin' vid card from when I was a gaming nerd.

the 20" that came w/ my system is the 2007fp. it's maybe slightly better than the 2001fp but then again, i haven't really calibrated display customization yet. meh.

i understand the issue to be specific to ONLY widescreen versions of the 2007fp, and not the regular 2007fp.

I had 2 of them delivered about 2 weeks ago. Must say I'm very happy with them. First monitors I've ever bought though so I don't have a comparison basis. I've deffinitly had no problems.

i have 2 coming in tomarrow i live in canada and i ordered mine through futureshop.ca

the 204b series is now disconinuted and a new series is being made just go into your local store and see if they have them and if they don't ask them to get them out of the warehouse like i did.

It cost me 1030 canadian for 2. Not that bad if you ask me.

Also the LCD in the dell 2001FP is the samsung 204b LCD samsung makes a lot of LCD's for major market companies.

Also you will want to get this cheap video card that has dual DVI's.

i got a 204b from samsung and its ok. the vertical viewing angle kinda suks so the top of the page is dark and the bottom is bright, but i really dont even notice anymore. it doesnt have as many inputs as the 2001fp and it shakes a lot more if you rock the desk because the stand isnt as sturdy, but it works.

No idea why this thread is still alive.

Dell is the correct answer if price is the only thing you care about.

The Samsung SyncMaster is the correct answer if you want a sharp picture and the ability to play games/movies.

I'm totally impartial to the SyncMaster, as it's not that much more expensive and the panel is just unreal.

I cashed out some winnings for my Dell 2001 and its an amazing investment for playing on. You will LOVE IT!

I got mine on sale in the UK for £300 after tax and shipping, but now in the UK they only have the newer 2007 model for ~£430.

Just to add a little to the discussion about the Samsung 204B and Samsung support. A couple days ago one of my 204B's developped a line of dead pixels (thin black line across the screen). I called Samsung customer support and was speaking with someone within 2 minutes. I simply described the problem and now they're sending me a new monitor which will be arriving in 4-5 business days. The total amount of time I spent on the phone was literally 5-6 minutes.

Nope. I just have to send my current one back when the new one arrives obviously. The postage is pre-paid. Interestingly enough, the monitor that developed the problem was the one I got through PokerStars with FPPs. I thought it might pose a problem when they tried verifying how long I had it for warranty purposes, etc. I just gave them the serial number and they confirmed PokerStars had purchased it within the last 90 days so they're just sending me a new one.
