It occurred to me just now that the biggest different at 6-max vs FR is that at 6-max you are forced to play OOP more. I've posted a lot of hands where I made really weak-tight folds preflop for fear of playing OOP postflop. At 6-max, you're forced to play more from the blinds, hence more pots played OOP whether your opponents are positionally aware or not. So, to work on my OOP game, I think I'll play more 6-max.
Also, this might explain why bigger limits have less FR and more 6-max. More players are positionally aware so better players don't get the edge of playing in position whenever they get involved, hence the best intrinsic reason for playing FR, playing in position more often, is nullified.
How's my logic? |

meh, you get coldcalled in position a lot more in full ring, so its the same difference. Yes, having to post a blind is a huge disadvantage on top of being oop, so yes, in six max blind play is a lot more crucial.
Basically, you need to become good at knowing what hands are profitable to play to begin with (from the blinds). Beyond that, vs some players you'll want to call a lot, vs some you'll want to 3bet a lot.
One thing I can say for sure, flat calling a raise out of the blinds (as opposed to 3betting) gets a bad rap, and I don't know why. Initiative in NLHE is way way overrated imo. Having the initiative in the hand is an advantage for sure, but its so easy to make the initiative change sides any time you want.
Vs solid players raising in late position, I've been cold calling out of the blinds with hands like 99, AQ/AJ/KQ a lot more lately. The reason is because you can choose to make a "delayed 3bet" with hands like this that generally flop a lot of equity even when they miss. You can call his raise pre, check raise any flop, stealing the initiative when theres more at stake. This is also cool because it allows you to use your image to call with KQ, flop a pair, and play it like the total nuts and get it in vs worse. |

Good point, vs some opps calling is way better. Sometimes giving away the initiative can be realy +EV. |
