| I played a little when they first brought it out on stars and the fish were worse than me. I pretty much opened JJxxx + and sometimes 4 flushes or OESDs if I was feeling frisky. Post draw is VERY player dependent but it doesnt usually take too long to get the hand of. |

Yea, I've been trying to learn this and it is fun.
For post draw strategy, I would take lots notes on the types of hands bet and called. Most people seem to wisely ck down any pair or weak 2 pair. You have to get a feel for whether your set is trapping an overvalued 2 pair or whether someone is trapping that overvalued set with a straight or flush. Most hands though it is just ck ck ck bet fold fold fold; but when they DO give action, it is so much fun. I had a guy call my stand pat boat with 2 pair; you gotta love it- people seem to think that stand pat bluffs are going on all over the place.
I play Omaha, and I have been kinda surprised at how often really strong hands come up in 5CD. Set over set and flush over flush seem no big deal, and I have seen boat lose to better boat, and in the last 3 months, I have hit quads like 2-3 times a week (in about 1-2 hours per session)!
IMHO, I believe this game is about position even more than most variants, and way more about reads than most variants. |

It has to be about reads cuz you don't have much else =P I doubt you're going to find much to read (SSI perhaps, although it's about crazy caro getting in people's heads)
I played some micro-stakes, so this may not be worth much. Standard poker stuff still works.
Deception: Drawing 1 with trips, drawing 2 with a high pair (especially with a good kicker, aka potential 2 pair). These are especially valuable in position when the villain is a donk and you can put him on a specific hand (i.e. draw, trips, etc)
Just identify the bad (i.e. worse players) and play with/isolate them. |

I dont really like drawing 2 with just a pair. I think its better to draw 1 with trips + 2pair + draws and usually just draw 3 with a pair. Alot of the time with a pair Its ok to turn your hand faceup because most of the players will play against you faceup. They'll often check to you when they miss and sometimes bet into you when they hit. That allows you to check behind when you miss (if they are the type to check 2pair) or value bet if they arent, and you can raise if you hit and they are leading 2 pair.
With just a pair you dont usually want to overrep your hand since if you draw 2 every time with a pair and with trips, you will have a pair so much more often than trips that you arent really disguising your hand much anyway. I think you get more value from getting calls from weaker pairs sometimes when you both miss and weak 2 pairs when you hit than you do from making them fold what is probably the worst hand (since alot of them wont fold 2 pair anyway). If you arent drawing 2 with trips then its really bad since you turn your hand faceup and give yourself a smaller chance of improving. People will just call your 1 cbet and usually profit. |
