How do you guys normally handle any tournaments where you have 12 players?
I have this situation tomorrow evening. Half of the players are new and haven't played before either. Acutally, it's a couples game. There is going to be 6 guys and 6 girlfriends/wives. It's more of a fun social get together than a real tournament.
Option #1
Start with one table of 12 players.
Option #2
Start with two tables of 6 players and combine down to one table when 2 people get knocked out.
Thoughts
I have a large table that would easily enough accomodate 12 people. It would be a little tight but we could manage.
The 2nd table would have to be set up in an area where I planned on having couches/coffee table. That stuff would be nice to have when people start getting eliminated for a social area.
I don't think that the large table would affect most of the girls' play because they aren't experienced enough to know how to adjust to different table conditions. I assume they will see paint cards/aces/suited and bet regardless.
If this were 12 guys playing poker I would definately just do 2 tables, but since this is more social I don't think it warrants another table. |

I say 2 tables, if only for the fact that everyone's outs will be taken if you play a 12 man table.
Think about that. That's 12 * 2 for the amount of hole cards dealt out plus 5 community.
That's 29 cards out of a 52 card deck already. Most people playing will be playing with big cards and if they all have eaech other's outs...well...ain't nobody gonna be winning with pairs, let me tell ya. |

It's your house, do whatever you want.
Personally, I think twelve is a little too much. I think 6/6 is your best bet. Once two or three people are eliminated you can make a final table. |

I can squeeze 11 people around my table and it works fine. 12 would be doable, but tight. The game will play diferently with that many, but not enough to make it all THAT different.
In my opinion, especially with so many newbies, I'd just play on one table (providing you can fit them). They will be confused enough as it is, why risk bad feelings when you don't have to. |

2 tables would be much more fun than 1 12 person table.

If it doesn't matter to you, why don't you ask them what they'd prefer?
If it's going to be 6 couples, I doubt anybody will care if you start off with 2 tables and then go to 1 or if you sit them all at a 12 person table. They'll be chatting it up with whoever's around them regardless and everyone will have fun. |

| my opinion would be to play two 6 person tables and once it gets down to 8-10 players go to one table. |

| I also recommend starting off with two tables of six. And go to one table once three players have been eliminated. The three that are out can then start a small side game if they wish. |
