Very well put aokrongly!! Even if it makes me a fish it's good to have someone point it out to you. I do pretty well in sng and mtt but as soon as I join a ring game I always manage to make f*cked up choices and most of the times pretty early on. I just have to pull my sh*t together and prove to myself that I know how to play my cards.

Kellogsx, there's a difference between having poor strategy - which is a normal learning experience - and having "bad habits" - which to me means you know What to do in a given situation but choose not to do it. Once you have an effective strategy (or a rule) for a certain situation if you break it (with a bad habit) then you are doing what I talk about above.

If you are consistently making bad choices early in a ring game it means you have unrealistic expectations on how quickly you are supposed to accumulate money. If you can add 20% to your stack EACH HOUR in ring, then you're doing good. Taking a SnG mentality of playing select hands and playing them agressively is good - if that's your style. But taking the SNG mentality of "doubling up early" is really really bad.

An SNG is like owning an island that is slowly sinking into the sea. You need to SELL IT QUICK to make any money. If you don't then you get Nothing.

A ring game is like a 401k. If you make prudent and patient decisions based on information and experience then you will slowly build your nestegg.

It sounds like you have a distorted view of time when you sit down at a ring game to me.

Ok, point taken...... I agree that I don't have a bad habit. My problem is lack of discipline for not following my own rules of playing. Also I think you're right about me thinking about money, it's not that I have to win money fast rather than not wanting to loose my stack. Since I'm at the beginning of my learning curve I always buy-in to little chips into a ring game and that makes me very vulnerable to loosing a few pots which probably tends to making me make bad choices. If I'm right about this then I'm very well aware of my problem and should be able to solve it....... DISCIPLINE!!

kell, if you Know that buying in short is a bad choice then fix it. Always buy in at the maximum and if you go one cent below the max buyin then addon - EVERYTIME, no exception. It's a rule. You CAN'T PLAY if you aren't allowed to play. That's what makes it a rule.

and btw "lack a discipline" is another way to say "I do what i know is wrong because i feel good." you can do that if you want. but you can't do it and pretend to be good. Discipline is the biggest part of being good.

You caught me. I am a Anthony Robbins zealot. I have Kaizen tatooed on my chest and I manipulate my emotions and beliefs like some Jedi master. Good times!
