Not the largest anymore! by ttanaka on 04 Apr 2009
rating 3 / 5
Wow, Party hasn't received a user review in a long time, here's the update - obviously Party is no longer one of the big boys, PokerStars is clearly the largest online poker room. Party does not accept US players, so there goes most of its players. However, there are still good qualities of Party if you're outside the US. The bonus is still easy to clear. The competition is pretty weak.

Interface - very nice, pleasing to look at and can easily multitable Action - The world's largest poker room! Party Poker is arguably the largest room (Pokerstars close) Support - only tried e-mail support so far and got an extremely quick reply everytime Fish - Most fish on the web! Bonus - Extremely easy to clear, but not as large bonuses and as frequent as other sites (although I LOVE how easy it is to clear!)

  • NUTS: Party Poker was one of the few sites to remain viable despite closing their doors to American players in 2006. They offer a lot of player traffic in all of their games. They were the first site to introduce a no-fee policy on tournaments which helps to create bigger prizepools and payouts. Their VIP program is adequate and rewards loyal players with bonuses and other prizes.
  • BEATS: As mentioned earlier Party does not currently accept American poker players. This has hurt their overall site traffic but they have remained a top-5 poker network online today. The Lobby offers a casino, bingo hall, and sportsbook which can be quite distracting for those looking to grind a lot of hands.

Party Poker Room Review

PartyPoker.com Overview

Party Poker is not a front end for another operation, but its own unique network. It is important to note that due to legislation in the United States they DO NOT currently accept US customers for real money games.

Those living outside of the United States will be able to enjoy cash play at one of the most well known poker rooms today. Before the Americans passed their prohibitive legislation in 2006, Party Poker was the place to play online poker. It still is for many people outside the US, but has since dropped in overall popularity. Many US players were very disappointed to have to leave the "fish fest" that Party Poker always was.

At Party Poker you will find No-limit, Limit, and Pot-limit Hold'em, Limit and Pot-limit Omaha (and Hi/Lo), and 7 Card Stud. Most of the cash game players are attracted to No-limit Hold'em and there are many full tables for every stake. One will notice that they have regular tables as well as jackpot tables listed throughout their games, but we highly recommend avoiding the jackpot tables if you can. These tables have an additional rake that can greatly impact one's win rate. If you also like to play Omaha or Stud, there usually are some tables running. However, most of these tables are low-to-mid stakes and only rarely it seems that a high stakes game is being played.

Tournaments at Party Poker are very popular, perhaps more so than the cash tables. There are hundreds of Sit & Go tournaments being played at the same time, with the most popular being in the $3 - $11 range. Off peak there are multiple tournaments running at $55, but rarely any higher than that. They also offer up to 5-table Sit & Gos, but only limited to a maximum $33 buy-in and generally these do not fill up very fast. This is one of the best online poker rooms for mid-stakes Sit & Go players today.

Multi-table tournaments also have quite a large turnout. They have many daily guaranteed prize pools, which usually shatter the minimum announced amount. Their regular tournaments range from $1 + R ($1000 guaranteed) to larger buy-ins such as the Super Saturday, $300 + $20 ($50,000 guaranteed). The smaller buy-ins usually host a field of around 500-600, and higher stakes can get around 150 people. Their weekly Sunday tournament has a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool ($215 buy-in) and usually hosts 1000+ players. Party Poker also offers many daily freerolls in the $100 to $1000 range (some exclusively for new players) and those fields can be as large as 5000 players.

While playing for real money at PartyPoker, you will earn PartyPoints. The more PartyPoints you earn, the higher your VIP level (6 levels, Bronze through Palladium Elite) and the better the benefits you will receive. The best use of PartyPoints has to be the Cashback % bonuses. These bonuses work like rakeback which is built right into Party Poker and players can earn up to 40% in Party Poker Rakeback! Simply climb up the VIP ladder, play lots of poker, collect PartyPoints, then change them in for cash!

Party Poker is the only on-line site I have tried. I do like the ease with which you can learn about the site. Technical support and customer service is good. I have never found an easy game. The 2-4,3-6, even the 1-2 tables have been nothing but hardcore rock death matches. As a person who has played a lot of brick and mortar, I know there are always some tough tables, but you usually find a decent mix at the casino. Not so at Party Poker. Maybe the fish have been caught, but I have NEVER ONCE found a good game. I opened up a separate account to limit my risk from on-line fraud, even going so far as to open up at a separate bank to protect my main financial routing number. I am still playing on the one and ONLY deposit I will ever make, so if they take it, they take it. (I now play only when I am totally alert, and play supertight. Once in a while, you can make a little on blind steals.) I would not recommend Party Poker's "action" to anybody. The only angle that might be worthwhile is to keep a little money in a real money account to maintain access to the freeroll tournaments. They pay peanuts, but at least it is tournament action. As far as card integrity, I think that the skew is OK at the 3-6 and above levels. Between the hardcore rocks and suspect distribution at the lower limits, I would not mess with them, unless you have the patience to wait for premium cards, and are willing to use money that you don't mind blinding off.

IM_TRYING?
Site is easy to use, however just like the other sites need to learn....If your going to offer a bonus, just give it to the customer. No more have to play 250 RANKED hands or other gimics. We are tired of it. Just give us a BONE and we would be happy. When will these people learn that. On the plus side there is plenty of people on the site, it is easy to maneuver and alot of variety. Good luck, you'll need it.
