What's New

Post Black Friday

As we are sure all poker players are aware, on April 15th, 11 executives associated with PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker, and their payment processors were indicted and their domain names were seized. Coined Black Friday, the FBI's and DOJ's actions on that day dramatically changed online poker in America, cutting off the most reputable and largest poker rooms from US players. Since then, PokerStars' and Full Tilt's .com domain names have been restored to facilitate US player account withdrawals. However, there's only been success with PokerStars withdrawals. There has yet to be luck for Full Tilt's former US players. Absolute and UB have yet to enter an agreement with the DOJ to restore their domain names though one was offered. Unconfirmed as, but undoubtedly, a reaction to the DOJ's actions, Sportsbook.com and PlayersOnly will no longer be accepting new US players after May 1st. Players with an account before May 1st will still be able to access the online poker rooms. Quite a few other online poker rooms still remain open to US players.
There remains a lot of uncertainty about the state of things at this time, but FlopTurnRiver remains determined to bring you the latest updates. We have organized an article to contain all the latest updates and links to all the FTR coverage as the news progresses. You can find that article here, or it is also linked to from our homepage at this time. For those interested and learning more about the DOJ indictment itself but don't have time to read the entire 52-page document, a clear summary can be found here. Lastly, you can share any updated information you find, or catch the latest findings, in our poker forum thread.

    PokerStars SCOOP Begins May 8th

While not open for US residents, PokerStars is open for business elsewhere and their anticipated Spring Championship of Online Poker is just around the corner. Beginning on May 8th, $25 million dollars will be guaranteed over 38 events. Furthermore, each event is broken down into a Low, Medium, and High format so you can pick at which stakes you'd like to play. Games such as Hold'em, Omaha, 8-Game, and more are on the schedule. There's definitely something for everyone. Satellites are also running for as little as $0.25 or 100 FPPs. You can't beat that. See if you have what it takes to join the SCOOP Hall of Fame.

    New Promos Galore

If you live outside the US, you've probably noticed that other large poker sites have turned the heat up on their bonuses and promotions. This is a great time for you! Rooms such as Titanpoker and bet365, will match your former VIP level at any of the indicted poker rooms of Black Friday. Enormous deposit bonuses, such as 200% up to $1,000 are springing up everywhere. Other notable rooms to check out are bwin Poker, Ladbrokes, Everest, 888poker and PartyPoker.
Also, as you check out these rooms post-Black Friday, it would be great if you could post a review to let others know how these rooms are doing now.

Villain is a reg running 25/21 over about 400 hands with 70% fold to 3-bet, opening 20% sb v bb, AF 3. Probably sees me as spewy.

    Comments:
Don't like preflop. I was worried about being 4-bet (since I didn't want to stack off pre), but stacks are big enough to flat a 4-bet in position with a pretty wide range and I think that's what I should have done with this hand.
My river sizing is probably too big, because at the time I thought my range was more bluff-heavy and had less Tx and flush combos compared with what I think now.
His check raise reps 3 combos of QQ and pretty much nothing else for value. On the other hand, he doesn't rep hands with no pair either. He might c/c twice with 77, 88, 99 then turn them into a bluff, he certainly can't call with those hands on this river. If I fold everything but my 7 combos of 44, 66, TT then bluffing is an awesome play for him, so I feel like without a read on how he plays this spot I have to call at least some flushes?

    ilikeaces86: Ya gotta call

IowaSkinsFan: I'm close to wanting to shove but I think call is better here.

bikes: Probably calling but ???? @ pre logic

shakesss:never folding and might consider shoving if the dynamics are right. His c/r % should give u a clue about whether he does this often enough for it to be a bluff. AF 3 ppl might not take check/call lines with flush draws on this board often enough for us to be dominating other flushes. He might take check/call lines with 10-9 sorta hands coz the boards pretty good for ur perceived range and he wouldnt wanna get raised oop deep with a weak one piar hand. If he thinks ur spewey then ur probably pretty polarized after betting the river and if he has a 10 he might just ship to look polarized as well and hope to get called by a really weak bluff catcher. I think he could do this for value with QT, 66 or 44.

Poker News | PokerStars Withdrawals Already Hitting American Accounts

Less than 48 hours after PokerStars announced they would be processing American players withdrawal requests there have already been reports of successful cashouts. This comes less than two weeks after Black Friday, April 15th, shocked the poker world with indictments against major owners of PokerStars, FullTilt, and CEREUS as well as payment processors. PokerStars is making United States based players withdrawal their entire balances at once over a variety of options including instant eChecks, bank wires, and paper checks. Withdrawals were supposed to take up to 72 hours just to process but some players have reported the money already being in the bank account with in 24 hours of requesting a cashout. According to the cashier, requests can take up to 72 hours to process and depending on your cashout method can take anywhere from 3-15 business days to hit your account. Checks will come through snail mail so be prepared to wait a week or two before receiving your funds if you choose this method.

Poker Article | Learning the Other Games

    By Spenda
There might be a time in your poker career when you grow tired of playing a certain game. Most learned No-Limit Texas Hold'em first and while it is often referred to as the "Cadillac of Poker" it is actually not the best preparation for other games such as Omaha, Stud, Draw, and other poker variants. It can be a bit overwhelming when learning a new game, but as long as you remember some universal poker fundamentals, develop solid PF hand selection, and understand the games rules and betting structure you should be able to forego much of the learning curve which comes along with starting a new game.
    Universal Poker Fundamentals
There are a few poker fundamentals which can be applied to nearly every game at any time. The "Theory of Poker" brought us the Fundamental Theorem of Poker which basically states the more information we have about our opponent's hand the better we will play while the less information we have the worse we will play. In short, if we would have played the hand the same way had we known our opponent's cards, we made a profitable decision, and had we played the hand differently had we seen their cards, we made a losing or incorrect decision.
