Hello, FTR! We hope that you've had a fantastic summer.

Starting with this newsletter, we've added some regular columns that will keep you more informed of what's happening in the FTR community and the poker world in general. Forum Fanatic is one in which we highlight a popular or interesting forum topic, and its debut here features an ask-me-anything "Well" thread by griffey24 for his 3000th post at FTR. Check out this and the other new columns below and see what you've missed if you haven't been perusing around the rest of our site.

Forum Fanatic: Confessions of a Bluffer

In griffey24's insightful and inspiring topic, zook writes "Discuss ip 4betting ranges," to which griffey responds:
I've tried toning down my outright 4bet bluffing lately, just cause it has to work too often and ppl seem to be jamming on me everytime I 4bet anyhow. Though, I'd say one of my bigger weakness' is playing in 3bet pots, IP, without initiative. That being said, it makes sense that my fold to 3bet is very high, and my button 4bet is probably also pretty high. Adding in more pairs to your 4betting range, instead of 4bet bluffing more, is also a good way to up your 4betting vs ppl fighting back and jamming too much.
If I do choose to 4bet bluff I try to do it with blockers at least. There are definitely lots of players that 3bet like madness in the blinds, and fold waay too much to 4bets, so finding these ppl is pretty helpful.

Poker News: South Carolina Poker Players Set To Win Appeal

In April 2006, police raided a house in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina where a group of friends were playing a home game. The players were arrested and charged with running an illegal gambling operation. The majority accepted the charges and paid a small misdemeanor fine, but five men stood up against what they saw as a miscarriage of justice. Their original trial found in favor of the state, but the impending appeal hearing looks set to side with the defendants.

Poker Article: Live Poker Cash Game Strategies

Massimo makes a couple of insightful posts about good adjustments to make when playing poker in a live casino cash game. Here is an excerpt:
In terms of raising preflop, i recommend playing pretty tight in early. Raising sc's can be ok at tighter tables. In terms of in late position, i realize now that making gigantic LP raises ,with a wide range of hands, when there are limpers is a very effective strategy. It accomplishes a few things:
1) You get noticed when you raise 8-10x preflop, it pisses off the limpers and you get paid off more because of it. "YOU RAISED 69S $50 PRE WTF?"
2) You get isolation usually
3) Casino players judge hands by money, not pot size. When you make a big pot cont bets become much more effective in casinos. In a $20 pot, you can cont bet $15 and you'd get called by any pair. In a $100 pot, a $75 bet will only get called by TP. Yet, they're the same 3/4 pot sized bets! it's something to think about.

Poker Dictionary: Wraparound Straight Draw

In Omaha, a straight draw with more than 2 ranks helping to complete the hand. A wraparound straight draw is a better draw than an open-ended straight draw.
Example: Hero's hand is 9JKQ, board is 28T, hero has a wraparound straight draw as the 7,9,J and Q all complete the straight.
