Texas Hold'em Hand Play-By-Play Example - Slow Play
Here is an example of a bit of a slow-play, which helped me reel in a poor player
into a big pot:
Hand #X at X (No Limit Hold'em)

Pre-flop:
*I'm holding KJ unsuited, not the strongest hand, but definitely solid.
I'm in the small blind position, so I call the extra $.15.
Player7 folds. Player8 calls. Player9
folds. Player0 folds. Player1 calls.
Player2 folds. Player3 folds. Player4
folds. Flop Turn River calls. Player6 checks.
Flop (board: Ac Kh 2s):
*I've hit a pair of K's, but there is an Ace on the board. In early position,
I decide to bet the minimum for information from the other players.
If someone is holding an Ace, I would expect a raise, or possibly a call with
a raise next round.
Flop Turn River bets $.25. Player6 calls. Player8 calls.
Player1 folds.
*My bet folds one player, so now it's three-way.
Turn (board: Ac Kh 2s Kd):
*The turn brings me another King! So I now have three of a kind, there is no straight
or flush possibility. Since I am very confident I have the best hand, I "slow-play" this
round, I check in early position as if I had a nothing hand, and hope that someone else bets into me.
Flop Turn River checks. Player6 bets $.50. Player8
folds. Flop Turn River calls.
*Player6 bets $.50, it's not much of a bet, and I figure if I raise too much, I may scare him out.
So, I slow-play again, and just call. This move confirms the weakness of my hand.
River (board: Ac Kh 2s Kd 8c):
*The river card is a blank and should not help anybody. This is the final round of betting, I do not
want to slow-play this round, so I bet the size of the pot and hope that my prior displays of
weakness help Player6 call my bet:
Flop Turn River bets $2.75. Player6 raises to $5.50.
Flop Turn River calls.
*Not only does Player6 call my bet, he raises ALL-IN against me! Of course I call and win the hand.
Player6 does not have a bad hand:
Showdown:
Player6 shows 6c Kc.
Player6 has Kc Ac Kh Kd 8c: three kings.
Flop Turn River shows Ks Jc.
Flop Turn River has Ks Jc Ac Kh Kd: three kings, ace kicker.
*Player6 also holds the three of a kind, but only a 6 kicker. I don't think he considered the kicker card
either because he was fooled into thinking I did not have a King also, or that he is just a poor player.
(Poor players tend not to give enough consideration to the kicker!)
Hand #526422-15957 Summary:
$.65 is raked from a pot of $13.75.
Flop Turn River wins $13.10 with three kings.
