Texas Hold'em Hand Play-By-Play Example - Folding Pre-Flop with JJ
As mentioned in another hand, JJ's are a premium hand, but not unbeatable, being
dominated by AA, KK, QQ, and a coin toss against AK and AQ.
Again, I look to raise with pocket Jacks pre-flop, looking to fold out any weak Aces, Kings, and Queens,
but remain very sensitive to big re-raises with this hand.
In the below hand, I am seated in late position. There is some interesting play pre-flop on this hand.
We have three callers, then Player2 raises the minimum raise of $.50.
Now, it's my turn, and I re-raise it up to $2.
Here's where it gets interesting. The action goes back around to Player8, who previously limped in,
and he now re-raises me, upping the bet to $7! Now, I've seen this type of play many times. Some people prefer to limp
in on monster hands (AA or KK) in early position, to not scare away any action, and hope for a late
position raise. I don't necessarily agree with this strategy, but I have seen it work well on occasion.
Well, I put the guy on AA or KK and let go of my JJ. Of course, this isn't an easy hand to fold,
especially pre-flop, but experience has taught me some things, and my Spidey-sense started tingling (Danger!)
so I layed it down.
