The Full Tilt Onyx Cup Series is a brand new type of events Full Tilt will be sponsoring. It is a televised live event that will begin in May 2011 through December 2011. Forty different television stations will provide coverage throughout the world. There will be six total events, with the final one being branded as the "Grand Finale" and will have $1 million added to the prize pool. The Onyx Cup will be spread amongst the world for each tournament; featuring places such as Las Vegas, Asia and Europe.

Buy-ins for each event will not be cheap. They will range from $100k to $250k (Grand Finale buy-in). Because of the very high price, the Full Tilt Onyx Cup has estimated there will be a $30 million total prize pool! Top Full Tilt Poker professionals, such as Howard Lederer, John Juanda, Erik Seidel, Erik Lindgren and Chris Ferguson, have already expressed commitments in participating in the Onyx Cup. It is very likely many more of the Full Tilt pros will follow suit, such as Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey.

Qualifying for Full Tilt's Onyx Cup Series events can happen in two different ways. The first option is that each player can just buy into the event. Because the event has a range of $100k to $250k buyins, this option will obviously cater to the professionals and richer players. The good news is that one player will qualify completely free thanks to Full Tilt Poker's freerolls. That's right, the Onyx Cup will provide one player to play their events for no charge as long as they win their preliminary tournaments.

To win this seat, players have go through three freeroll "rounds". The first round consists of entering a 180-man Sit & Go freeroll tournament. The top four places are rewarded with a seat to the second round, consisting of another weekly tournament. The second round freeroll will send the top 100 players to the Final Freeroll. The final round is one last freeroll tournament with the winner receiving one Full Tilt Poker Onyx Cup Series Event 1 prize package. Prize packages include 1 $100k buy-in as well as travel and food expenses.

To register for an Onyx Cup freeroll, sign up or log-in to Full Tilt Poker and choose "Standard View" under the "Choose Lobby View" tab. From there, select "Tournament", "All", "All", "All Types" and "Freerolls". Then, scroll until you find an Onyx Cup Series Freeroll tournament and click the "Register Now" button.

The structure of each Full Tilt Onyx Cup tournament will have eight person max tables. At the table each player will only have 30 seconds to make a decision or else their hand will be folded or checked. To help out the participents, each one will receive three different time chips. Two chips will be for an extra 30 seconds and the other will be for two extra minutes. The way players make it into the Grand Finale is to be one of the top scorers on the leaderboard during the first five events. The official winner of the Full Tilt Onyx Cup will be whoever has the most points after the Grand Finale. See the full schedule below.
