Poker Power Network Launches FoldorRaise.com, Allows Texas Hold-'Em Players to Play Starting-Hand Scenarios and Analyze Their Play
Business Wire, Feb 23, 2005
MINNEAPOLIS -- Poker Power Network is proud to announce the launch of FoldorRaise.com (http://www.FoldorRaise.com), an interactive Texas Hold-'em strategy web site. FoldorRaise.com presents users with a starting-hand scenario and allows the users to decide whether they would fold, call, raise or make a big raise.
After "playing" a hand, users can then see what other players selected. The site also reveals the probability of that hand winning against other hands and offers advice on how experts would play each hand. Users can also post and read comments about playing the hand.
"More and more people are playing Texas Hold-'em because of the popularity of the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker, but many players still don't realize that good Texas Hold-'em is a game of folding and raising -- not calling." says Rusty Szurek, one of the site's founders. "Our goal is to help players understand how certain hands should be played to maximize their chances of winning."
The site also tracks a user's play and tells them which hands and positions they may be too aggressive or too passive with.
"We see consistent trends among players where they fail to understand how their position and the previous betting at the table changes how a hand should be played. Using FoldorRaise.com is a much cheaper way to learn how to play (it's free) than losing money at the tables," adds Szurek.
According to the site, some of the most misplayed starting hands are:
--66 and other small pairs in early position - 23% of people will raise
--AA in early position - 20% of people will make a big raise
--KT suited in middle position with a raise - 77% of people will call
"If you're wondering what the holes in your game are, FoldorRaise.com will tell you," says Tyson Lowery, another founder. "Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned veteran, you'll benefit from knowing which hands you might be misplaying."
The site is a much cheaper alternative to poker boot camps like those just announced by the World Poker Tour which cost $1,495.

'52 Tips for Texas Hold'em Poker' —- Barry Shulman's Guide to Winning the Pot; Poker Champion and 'Card Player' Publisher Provides Strategies for Players at All Levels
PR Newswire, Feb 15, 2005
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Whether you're just getting into today's most popular card game or looking for fresh strategies to keep you from losing your shirt, you'll find a how-to-win roadmap in 52 Tips for Texas Hold'em Poker, a new book by poker champion and Card Player publisher Barry Shulman. The book is designed to help readers of all skill levels become winning players, putting them ahead of the vast majority who leave the table with noticeably thinner wallets.
After explaining the basics of the game for the benefit of rookies, 52 Tips focuses on strategies that help players avoid many of the common pitfalls that can quickly erode their stack of chips. The tips are presented chronologically through a hand of hold'em, addressing the most important and frequently encountered decisions to be made at each stage. They range from Shulman's advice on playing style ("tight-aggressive" gets the money) to specific techniques for playing before the flop, on the flop, on the turn, and on the river.
Tip 7, for example, explains how to decide which playable hands are worth a call but not a raise when players have already entered the pot for one bet before the flop. Tip 25 offers guidelines on playing when you flop a pair of aces in a multiway pot, while Tip 45 offers guidance in playing a longshot hand on the river. A special Bonus section covers the differences in limit and no-limit play.
52 Tips for Texas Hold'em Poker is published by Card Player Press and is available for $19.95 at http://www.cardplayer.com/ and http://www.amazon.com/ . The book was co-authored by Mark Gregorich, associate editor of Card Player magazine.
