Dean "Drifter" MacNeil, founder, Red Hot Poker Tour presents
the Team Canada jersey and custom plaque to the overall
winner.

HOW: The 140 players who will compete in the first Tournament of
Champions qualified by earning points for consistent quality
play during the Red Hot Poker Tour's first season, in
participating bars across Ontario. This tournament includes
only the best of the best, players who truly have an
opportunity to succeed with Daniel's training.

WHY: The Red Hot Poker Tour provides a challenging, but risk-free
training ground for amateur players to develop their poker
skills. Its mission is to nurture Canadian amateur poker
talent to become a force on the world poker stage and,
ultimately, to produce the first Canadian World Series of
Poker Champion.

Recently, Daniel Negreanu participated at a Red Hot Poker
Tour night where he accepted the role of Captain, as the
first member of Team Canada of Poker.

DETAILS: The Tournament of Champions was structured in consultation
with former World Series of Poker Director Robert
Thompson II. It has been modified from the Red Hot Poker
Tours regular tournaments set up to allow for longer play
before the blinds increase, reducing the luck factor and
ensuring quality play determines the overall winner.

The Red Hot Poker Tour has acquired Paul Westley's "The
Clock", which is the electronic clock used at the World
Series of Poker.

Background
The Red Hot Poker Tour ('The Tour') launched in one location in Toronto on November 9th, 2004, on a hunch that, like its founder, Dean MacNeil, amateur poker players were hungry to get tournament experience and to improve their poker skills. At launch, the Red Hot Poker Tour operated only once a week in Toronto. Today, players from across Ontario have the opportunity to play in up to 80 tournaments a month.

The Player-Members of the Red Hot Poker Tour play in an 80-person tournament. Each person receives 4,000 in starting chips with the goal to acquire the 316,000 chips held by everyone else. Blinds and Antes (forced bets) increase every 20 minutes, so players must play or they will eventually be forced out of the tournament. As players slowly get knocked out, the 10 tables continue to dwindle down until one table is left. The remaining eight players battle it out with only one emerging victorious. The winner walks away with the knowledge and 'bragging rights' of a poker champion, plus a small prize.
