Online Poker Team Competes In World Poker Championships Published: 2006-04-19

The tournament commenced yesterday (April 18) at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and runs through to April 24.
Each of the 19 entrants won a $27,900 package, which included travel and accommodation expenses as well as the $25,000 tournament buy-in. The final team was selected from a group of Pokerroom's top 100 players that regularly compete in some of the biggest tournaments all over the world. The final qualifiers won their way to the Bellagio in a series of intense online qualifiers.
Team Pokerroom.com includes a mixed bunch of players from very diverse backgrounds. members comprise a diverse group of players, including a sales representative and an investment banking analyst, Jim Davenport. They are all players that have exclusive endorsement deals with Pokerroom.com.
Jim won the $250,000 endorsement package, which includes travel expenses plus buy-ins for for at least 12 major poker tournaments, by coming first in the PokerRoom.com "Become a Poker Pro" tournament last month.
"The team is as much about camaraderie as it is about winning the World Poker Championship" a PokerRoom.com spokes person said.

Travel Channel To Air Professional Poker Tour Published: 2006-04-18

Las Vegas, NV (AHN) – The latest venture by WPT Enterprises is set to debut on the Travel Channel July 5 at 9 p.m. The Professional Poker Tour will give fans the chance to see 250 of the world’s top poker players go head-to-head.
It will guarantee about 24 straight weeks of multi-table poker action. At the felt will be champions from the World Poker Tour, World Series of Poker and European poker tournaments.
The competition will be made up of five "freeroll" tournaments with a total of $2.5 million in prize money. Among the renowned poker players competing will be Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, Linda Johnson, Jennifer Harman, and many others.
The PPT guarantees top level competition as players are granted membership based on their previous accomplishments, which include winning a WPT event, playing at more than one WPT final table in a season and ranking among the top six at the WPT World Championship.
The final table will be unique in several ways. Players will face a 90-second clock when deciding whether to play or fold their hand. The table will also be lined with royal blue felt as opposed to the traditional green.
