“Good Place to learn and grow” by Franchize, 16 Aug 2007 |
Atmosphere: Wait: Variety: Fish: |
I've only started playing poker this
year, so I'm still mostly an amateur.
I started playing at Commerce about 3
months ago, first at the $1-$2, then
$3-$5, and now $5-$10. $1-$2 is just
too much like Limit with everyone
calling, no real action. $3-$5 are
looser, but still pretty tight. The
$5-$10 is getting more aggressive. I
don't see a lot of "terrible"
players, but there are definite fish out
there. I don't think that I'm one of
them any more because I can spot them
now. But the experience has gained my
confidence and experience, which has
made me comfortable moving up. But I
also have a big bankroll since this
isn't my day job, so I can afford to
move up also. I think $5-$10 is my
limit though. But I love the aggressive
action at this level. I just haven't
seen a lot of 'skilled' players, just
a bunch of average players, which causes
me to play tighter, but aggressive.
I'm gaining a small reputation amongst
the few people that recognize me, and
that rep is "strong". That surprises
me, but I'm happy with it. All in in,
I love the place simply because it's a
like going back to school at a top
level. Books and online poker can only
teach you so much until you sit at a
table with some fish and some guys that
do this for a living. You wanna see how
the action goes down at all levels,
here's the place! |
“Poker Capital” by danxd, 11 Apr 2007 |

I play a lot at Commerece. It's not my
favorite place, but it is the capital of
the poker world. And it's close to my
house (LOL).
They spread almost any game you want to
play. If you're looking for NL or
limit variety, this is the place.
The food is OK, but reasonably priced.
You do have to pay for drinks, because
this is California not Nevada.
Action is hot at all tables. There are
a number of beginners at the tables.
They will suck out, so prepare for bad
beats. The regulars also like to
gamble, so they'll call down with any
piece.
Fish? I have seen less fish here than
anywhere except the Bike. Many of the
players may be gamblers, but they do
know how ot control a game. You'll
find yourself folding winners and
getting bad beats. But there are enough
to make money, that's for sure.
Watch out in the parking lot. It is
huge. Not well lit in some areas. The
employee parking lot is lit up like
Monday Night Football, but patrons take
their lives in their hands walking
through some of the areas. This is the
only place in S. Cal, where I have met
people who have been robbed in the
parking lot.
Maybe it happens at other places, I just
haven't heard.
The dealers here are the best. They
deal with some of the worst scum of the
poker world. They never give attitude
(as I have seen at other places). They
are all nice and smile often. They
don't let players push them around, but
are nice about it. They overlook bad
language to a point, bad temper to a
point, and player mistakes (string bet,
call before knowing there is a raise,
folding out of turn, etc.) And the
floor people are magnificant.
All in all though...a good place to go.
