Betfair Lands British Boxing Sponsorship

Betfair has signed a deal with the British Amateur Boxing Association, making them the group’s official gaming partner. As part of the package, the online betting exchange will also sponsor their GB Amateur Boxing Championships.

This is actually a continuance of a relationship which began this past November. Betfair also sponsored their previous championship, finding that the parties worked well as a tandem. Both the BABA and Betfair are based in London, making them natural geographic partners.

“Betfair’s decision to extend its relationship with GB Boxing,” said BABA Executive Chairman Derek Mapp, “is a sign of its confidence in both the GB Boxing team and the health of the amateur sport in this country where it is delivering success at both the grassroots and the elite level.”

Andy Lulham, the man in charge of Betfair’s UK Brand Marketing team, expressed similar optimism regarding the fighters.

“There are a number of promising boxers in its ranks,” he said, “who are more than capable of delivering success in what I’m sure will be a standout year for the sport.”

Some of these young fighters are Luke Campbell, Andrew Selby, Tom Stalker, Fred Evans, and Anthony Joshua. Each of these five has already qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, putting them in elite amateur company. iGaming Business is also reporting that several individuals from the men and women’s GB Boxing teams are scheduled to make appearances at some of Betfair’s live events, which should push awareness of the sponsorship even higher. The fighters will also be providing material for Betfair’s social media platforms.
