Decent MicroStakes Ring games by BagONickels on 29 Nov 2011

rating 5 / 5
I've been out of the online poker world for a couple years now and I recently decided to get back in. So far I have tried Luvin and Cake. I'm only playing the micro-stakes (for now) and I was surprised at how different the play here was from Luvin.
Make sure you get the 2.0 version of the software. I was directed to an old version from one of the rake-back sites and the old software is terrible. 2.0 is very nice though.
The play at Cake, even at the micro-stakes takes at least some skill. I feel like a lot of average players, like myself, are testing the waters at the micros. While there are usually one or two fish at the table, I have found myself more than once with what seemed to be a full table of regs and/or nits. Just be sure to choose the tables with the higher view% and avg pot.
There are always a handful or more of ring games full at all the small stakes tables. Single table S&Gs do fill up, unlike Luvin where they are non-existent, but it still may take a little while at Cake.
Depositing was easy and instant with a major US bank Visa.
Bonus seems easy enough to clear, but as far as I can tell there is no rake back once your bonus has cleared or expired. I deposited $50 and I dont think I'll have any trouble clearing the $55 bonus within 90 days even if I just 2 table for a couple hours a day.
Have not had to deal with support, nor have I made a withdrawal so I can't comment on that...
cake poker is ok.. hard to get your money out by demmajam on 01 Nov 2011

Cake poker is ok, but there is a $500 withdrawal minimum and it takes forever to get your money back. That is a bummer for me.

Cake Poker.com Overview
Cake Poker is a member of the Revolution Gaming network, formerly known as Cake Poker. Cake recently decided to pull out of the US market and no longer accepts new US players.
Cake has recently released brand new software, which it is branding "Cake 2.0." In the new release, Cake Poker completely changed the look of its lobby and tables and made many upgrades and changes to the features of the old software. It also added two new games, War and Tourney Blackjack.
Cake Poker currently offers Limit, Pot-Limit, and NL Texas Hold'em as well as Limit and Pot-Limit Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi/Lo. The Omaha games have seen a nice boost in traffic lately, with stakes up to $5/$10 seeing consistent action.
Cake Poker's Sit & Go tournaments are fairly popular in relation to the average number of users connected. During the evening you should spot quite a few games running for every limit up to $50. Cake Poker's most popular SnG tournaments are the shorthanded turbos, which are 6-max with 6 minute blind levels paying the top 2 places. They also offer heads-up, 10-max, and 2 table tournaments for every limit.
Tournaments at Cake Poker have really come a long way since their inception. At one time a few hundred people would be enrolled, but they now have several thousand. Tourney buy-ins range from $.25+$.10 up to $200+$15. Their daily $100+$9 has a $17,500 guaranteed prize pool. These are getting the more participation and, as long as Cake Poker keeps building up player interest, they should keep rising in the online poker world. They also have a handy “Freeroll” tab that, at last look, showed around 5 freeroll satellites running every day - always a crowd-pleaser.
Cake Poker.com Software Interface/Usability
Recently, Cake Poker has revamped its interface with the introduction of Cake 2.0. With the introduction of their new software, Cake Poker upgraded their lobby, making it more organized than before.
The lobby now has tabs on the left side to switch between Poker and Cake Poker's two new games, War and Tourney Blackjack. Within the Poker tab, players can use advanced filters to sort games by limits and stakes so they can find the exact game of their choice.
Cake also changed the look of their tables. The tables now have a simplistic look with small avatars and chips, rather than the old look of a table surrounded by "real" players. If you were a fan of the old look, though you can switch back to it in the themes tab under Options.
Hand histories are still available in the upper left corner of the table. In the upper left corner, you can click on 'last hand' to be presented with the last hand played. You can also sort through the previous hands you had played at the table. The hand history viewer is in picture format, showing cards and actions on every street. Hand histories can be saved to your computer or requested via e-mail in text.
CakePoker Poker Room Action
Cake Poker has slightly decreased in traffic as of late even with it's support for American Players. During non-peak hours traffic can decrease to below 1000 players signed on. These numbers are much higher during weekends and peak time U.S.
Most of the player base you will find at micro to small stakes no limit (.02-.04 to .5-$1) during peak times there are usually 5-6 tables of mid stakes running as well with several tables of PLO across various stakes.
Cake Poker's Ease of Game, Ease of Making Money, Fish Rating
You can expect Cake Poker to be swimming with fish. Players at Cake Poker seemed fishier than other sites we’ve noticed in the recent past. At the mid-stakes Hold’em level expect to see a large number of whales at every table, making this a great poker room to try!
CakePoker.com Bonus and Promotions
Cake Poker is currently offering a 110% deposit bonus up to $600 + 36% rakeback! Make sure you use the links on this page to qualify and enter the Cake Poker Signup Code FTRRB when creating your account. This bonus is earned by playing real money ring games and tournaments, which will earn you FPPs.
Here is their description as to how FPPs are earned:
"For each dollar that is raked at a table where you are dealt cards, you will earn one Frequent Player Point (FPP). We are accurate to the penny, so if your table was raked $1.25, you will receive 1.25 FPP or if your table was raked $3.00, you will receive 3 FPP. Also, for each dollar worth of tournament fees you pay, you’ll earn 7 Frequent Player Points (FPP) for them once you’re done in the tournament."
Note - While all players who signup up at Cake through FTR will receive 36% rakeback, all rakeback players earn FPPs at 50% of the rate listed above.
The bonus, which expires in 90 days, is released into your account in $10 increments. It states on their website that each FPP is worth $.06 towards your bonus. To take full advantage of the $600 bonus, you must earn 10,000 Frequent Player Points in 90 days. How fast this bonus is earned depends on the limits you play at, as the FPPs are generated much easier at higher stakes.
The rakeback is handled directly from Cake Poker, so you know there will never be a late payment. Each Wednesday the rake from the previous week will be deposited into your account. For example, say your total rake paid was $500 last week, you will receive a deposit for $165.
Noticeably absent from their promotions is a Bad Beat Jackpot, which virtually every other site has. But since those do not have very good odds anyway, nobody should really miss it.
Cake Poker also has loyalty reward promotions such as 'Gold Card 500' and '$20,000 Gold Chip Guarantee.' In the Gold Card 500 players earn as many gold cards as possible and the top 10 instantly win $500. Their Gold Chip Guarantees are immensely popular. These have prize pools up $20k and currently have the most people enrolled versus anything else on the site. Given the popularity of these tournaments, the site’s activity should keep rising steadily.
In addition, Cake Poker has also introduced their Gold Stacks loyalty program and the peer-to-peer selling of Gold Cards.
The Gold Stacks program pays out instant rewards when players collect enough Gold Chips to complete a stack. Stacks sizes vary depending on which level of the program the player is on. There are 50 levels total. The higher the level a player achieves, the better the reward. Also, the faster players complete a level, the better the reward. A cool thing about this program is that the level never resets, so players won't have to worry about trying to grind back to their former level if they take time off from playing.
The introduction of the selling of Gold Cards has been very popular so far. Players can click on the "Exchange" button in the Cake Poker client to access a website. There, players can buy and/or try to sell cards to other players for prices they set themselves. This will come in handy for players trying to make use of gold cards if they don't like to enter tournaments or wait for daily lotteries.
