WSOP-Update May 27th - Atmosphere is heating up for WSOP

WSOP-Update May 27th - Atmosphere is heating up for WSOP

Posted on 27 May 2008 at 3:18 pm EDT by Olsdog | Permalink

We’re now only three days away from the biggest event in the poker world. Yes, the World Series of Poker is primed to kick-off on Friday with Event #1 and many of the players have already arrived in Las Vegas.

Those who are already in Sin City are eagerly anticipating registering for the tournament (or tournaments) in which they will be playing in at the Rio. And these people won’t be alone either if last year’s numbers are any indication of what to expect in ‘08.

In 2007, there were over 50,000 people who registered for WSOP tournaments and their combined buy-in fees ended up equaling $150,000,000 in the prize pool for all the tourneys. And even though these numbers are pretty amazing, there are a lot of people who are saying that this year’s WSOP could be even bigger than the one in 2007.

But no matter how big this year’s WSOP turns out to be, the main story will still remain the moving of the Main Event final table to November. In fact, many bloggers and poker websites are still talking about this shakeup.  It will definitely be weird to see the WSOP end in early July only to be concluded five months later. That definitely doesn’t seem to be killing the buzz among most players though.

It can be agreed upon that most people still can’t wait for their tournament to get underway where the possibility of big money lies in every event no matter what the buy-in may be.

Good luck to all the players in the 2008 WSOP!
