this is a good article ... i don't know why there aren't any comments or debate about it. maybe i can start something.

i think in theory (particularly mathematically) that you are pretty much dead on to the fact that a looser preflop opener should be making smaller raises in order to keep pots small since our holdings in general are going to be behind the ranges of oop callers. From a math standpoint this is pretty obvious.

i disagree w/ it from a practical standpoint though. here are my reasons.... firstly, if im playing a loose opening style (as i very commonly do, sometimes even more aggressive than the example you gave), im playing this way because I believe I have an edge over my opponents. if i have an edge, I want to be opening a larger amount for a few reasons .. one ... i want to discourage light cold calls and light 3bets. (i know the part about wanting to discourage light cold calls seems counterintuitive, but the reason i argue this way is that my hand is much less defined if i raise a smaller amount, which in turn gives villain more of a reason to think i might be weak, and even more of a reason to show up w/ strange holdings when im firing 2 or 3 barrels expecting him to fold the majority of the range im putting him on when in fact that range ends up becoming much larger). another reason i want to raise larger is because since i feel i have an edge, I WANT bigger pots. I'm going to win many more pots without showdown, and it's going to be more difficult for me to stack someone the times i do make monster hands if i'm not building a large enough pot preflop.

my roommate jonnycosmo plays a similar style, just less spewy than me, and we've had this argument a few times, i've also had the same argument about 4bet sizing with myth, and in the end what it all really comes down to is personal preference based on postflop style. we've all conceded that there are merits to doing both, it just depends on how high a variance game you really want to play.

maybe we can stir up some debate ?
