Despite the hugely disruptive effects of the events of Black Friday, online poker action continues to go strong, even at the effected sites such as Full Tilt Poker. Those players outside the US who are still able to play for real money at Full Tilt will find it is well populated and extremely lucrative, in particular for Finnish pro Patrik Antonius, who has now amassed an impressive $1.7 Million in winnings within one week.
Following the FBI Indictments on April 15th, now commonly known in the poker world as Black Friday, a vast number of online pros found themselves without work. Also affected, were, of course the big name pros from Team Full Tilt, as a large number of them reside within the United States. However that doesn’t mean FTP’s not still represented by famous faces, with international players such as Patrik Antonius and Gus Hansen still very much on the scene, mixing it up at extremely high stakes actions and generating massive losses and even bigger wins.
Patrik Antonius himself is being credited as one of the main reasons why high stakes games are still running on Full Tilt Poker since Black Friday as, contrary to his normal habits of taking long pauses from the action, Antonius has been putting in serious amounts of volume over the last three weeks. Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen has also been mixing it up, although with disappointing results having dropped a cool million over the last week, reducing his yearly profits to a still very impressive $3 Million.
In contrast to Hansen’s downswing, Antonius could do no wrong this past week as he hit the tables day after day. Playing 2,278 hands of poker on the $300/$600 Full Tilt Pot Limit Omaha tables is no mean feat. To top it all off he was playing against the best in the world, among them fellow Finnish pro Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahaimes. Despite stiff competition Antonius had an astounding week and won over $1.7 Million, springing his way up after the leaderboards after being $500,000 in the red last month.
All this goes to show that despite the smaller player pools to be found at major sites such as PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker since the indictments of Black Friday, they’re definitely still home to great poker and great fun. The word on the street is even that games at PokerStars and Full Tilt are softer since the withdrawal of US players, which makes this a perfect time to get amongst the action and win some money.
