On The Tournament Trail — March 31st, 2008.

The past few days have been a bit of a holding pattern for live tournaments, as we’ve just put the WPT World Poker Challenge behind us, and are gearing up for an enormous April, ushering in the Spring with millions of dollars in payouts, and new faces made famous while doing so.

Yet another exciting tournament series that I talked about last week is the Foxwoods Poker Classic. The series is well underway at this point, with Event 8 ongoing. This series has been an extremely popular one in the past, and is no different this time around. It has had incredibly large fields for the opening tournaments, such as Event 1, a $300 Shootout event. It attracted 1,390 players, and Tiffany Williamson of World Series of Poker fame, or infamy depending on how you look at it, finished 4th for $29,890. Just a few days later, Event 3, a $530 No Limit Freezeout attracted nearly 1,000 players and built almost a half a million-dollar prizepool. Not bad for a preliminary event. The series has had another well-known pro cash big. Kathy Liebert cashed in a $530 Women’s Only Event, taking 2nd for $17,689. This just adds to Kathy’s already impressive results, with winnings of over $4 million. However, this is a relatively short tournament series, but not short on the action or great prizepools. In the coming days, there are $2k, $3k, and $5k events, which are sure to create huge cashes for players. On Friday the $10k Main Event begins. One noticeable change from last week is the fact that event 9 is not a $50k event, rather a $5k event. Last year the Main Event was won by Raj Patel, of San Jose, California. An unknown at the time, he took down the WPT televised final table for a whopping $1,298,405.

Unfortunately, all the happenings will be coming up in the next two weeks, as three final tables will go down. The WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic Final Table will be going down next Wednesday, April 9th, The EPT San Remo Final Table will be wrapping up on Saturday, with Day 1 starting tomorrow. And, the World Series of Poker stop in Indiana has its Main Event beginning April 13th, and finishing on April 14th. Keep posted!

Be sure to check back to FTR Blogs in the coming weeks as millionaires are made.
