Three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, won the main event in the 2010 Florida State Poker Championship. The main event took place at Pompano Beach’s Isle Casino & Racing. The 42-year old won $103,000 after beating the field of over 400 players. He was seen using his cellular phone to update his fans via Twitter throughout the tournament. Ironically, Matusow was not in Florida to play poker; he traveled to Florida to promote a poker coaching website.
Even the skilled Matusow needed to call on Lady Luck to win this tournament. In one hand, his pocket nines hit a set against another player pocket kings. In another hand, a set of his improved to a full house on the river to best an opponent’s flopped flush. It has even been said that Matusow was dealt pocket queens four times in a row! About Florida players, Matusow was quoted as saying “In Florida, you’re dealing with a lot of raw players, and they’re terrible.” Perhaps the new online poker coaching site he is promoting can change that.
Mike Matusow is a very talented poker player. He is most famous for his loud voice and obnoxious remarks. In the 2005 WSOP, he finished ninth out of 5,619 players in the main event and won $1 million in the process. Additionally, he is a regular on the poker television show, High Stakes Poker. He is one of the earliest members of Team Full Tilt on Full Tilt Poker. He also plays under the aliases: mrpokejoke on PokerStars and dill pickle on UltimateBet. Matusow remains a force to be reckoned with as seen by this tournament win. He is sure to win more WSOP bracelets in his lifetime.
