The European Poker Tour Vienna Main Event has concluded this weekend, with the great stop being an awesome experience for everyone involved, and the main event no exception. As day four came to a close and the final table was set, it was Daniel Negreanu and his spectacular chip lead who was in the spotlight, but there’s always a lot of room for movement with the talent we see in tournaments these days and in the end it was Michael Eiler who took down the event and the €700,000 prize.

The European Poker Tour is a series of televised tournaments sponsored by PokerStars and hosted in many beautiful cities around Europe. Every few weeks the Tour stops in a different city and a small series of tournaments is played, culminating in a main event. The play is recorded and fans at home can watch the action at their leisure. We’re currently in the seventh season of the EPT and this was the first ever stop in Vienna, greatly enjoyed by everyone involved.

Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu, famous for his many poker titles, fantastic talent and numerous television appearances put in a very good showing at the event. On Day 4 he opened with a strong chip lead, which he battled to maintain throughout the day, before eventually finding himself at the head of the final table with a strong chip advantage as the day drew to a close. Sadly the final day was not so kind to the Canadian poker great, and he eventually busted in 4th place for €175,000.

Shortly afterward Konstantinos Nanos was eliminated in third place as he got his money all-in dominated with Q9s against the K9s of would-be runner-up Martin Hruby. This left Hruby and Michael Eiler alone on the final table, and as heads-up play got underway Hruby was enjoying a substantial chip advantage over his opponent. Once again on the final day a sizable chip stack didn’t translate into victory, as Eiler doubled-up early on with AJ against Eiler’s A3 and eventually overtook the chip lead.

With this slight chip advantage Eiler shoved all-in preflop with Ace Ten of diamonds and was called by Hruby’s pocket deuces. A classic coin flip to decide the poker tournament got everyone’s heart racing, but the KJ8 all diamond flop gave Eiler the nut flush and neither the turn nor river brought the miracle Hruby needed. Hruby was eliminated in second place for €470,000 and Eiler was left to enjoy the title and first place prize money to the tune of €700,000, which is just under $1 Million USD.

Michael Eiler was an online qualifier to the PokerStars sponsored event, which meant that he won a series of satellite tournaments online and eventually had his entry into the tournament paid for by PokerStars themselves. This isn’t a rare happening, so if you think you’ve got what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Eiler, then step up and sign on to PokerStars right now.
