Man Pleads Guilty to Reckless Manslaughter

Man Pleads Guilty to Reckless Manslaughter

Posted on 29 May 2008 at 8:53 pm EDT by Rxgrossman | Permalink

Vincente Perez, 57, of Macon, Georgia pleaded guilty over the fatal stabbing that took place at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic city.

Perez and Arthur Price, 61, got into an argument over a seat at a poker table. The disagreement continued outside to the valet parking area.  Prince then proceeded to hit Perez with a cane several times. It was then that Perez pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Prince, who severed an artery and was pronounced dead at an Atlantic City Hospital.

Perez will be sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to reckless manslaughter. He said he didn’t mean to kill anyone claiming self-defense was the reason he brought out the pocket knife in the first place.

The argument started over a seat at a $1/$2 no-limit Texas Hold’em game. Prince was apparently awarded Perez’s former seat. Perez was out of cash and went to an ATM machine to get more money, and when he returned, Prince was in his seat after being told to by one of the floor people at the Taj Mahal.
