Something good has come from Netflix raising its prices: other people dropping theirs. Poker professional Jonathan Little has been inspired by the mistakes of Netflix, and has dramatically lowered the subscription fees to his online training site, FloatTheTurn.com. Formerly, the fees were $19.95 per month, accompanied by a $99.95 sign-up fee. Now, Little has dropped the fees to $8 per month, with the sign-up fee waived. With the average poker training website charging anywhere from $20 to $50 per month, this is a prize drop to notice.
Asked why he made the price drop, Little commented, “When I heard that Netflix lost 800,000 subscribers after raising their prices, I knew I had to do the opposite. It’s no secret that the poker industry has been struggling lately. With the exception of the World Series of Poker, participation in large buy-in tournaments has been dropping steadily in recent years. When I won the Foxwoods WPT event in 2008, there were 412 entrants. In 2011, there were only 189 entrants. Something has to be done to encourage more people to play or we’ll just end up with a handful of pros playing each other for insignificant prize pools. I’m hoping this new lower price will appeal to a much larger group of aspiring poker players and help them develop the skills and confidence they need to compete in today’s game.”
Little joked, “And if this new lower price helps me get 800,000 new subscribers, I wouldn’t complain.” Little has also begun offering a free poker video, new each month, to interested parties. These videos can be watched without signing up or sharing any information. Little has won over $5 million in career winnings, and is just the type of player you want to be learning from…now for only $8 a month!
