If you love aggressive play, tons of post flop, and huge action, 6-max tournaments are for you. Day 3 of WSOP Event 10 will get started in just under half an hour, and the remaining 15 players will fight for the bracelet. An impressive 1,920 people paid $1,500 to participate in this event, creating a $2,592,000 prize pool with $544,388 for first place.
Leading the pack is New York’s Jeffrey Papola with 1,088,000 chips, followed closely by Canada’s Alexander Wice, who has 1,013,000 chips.
Papola is known as the “Six-Max King” due to his wild success in previous WSOP 6-max events. Last year he took second place in the $2,500 6-max event after losing to Will Haydon heads-up, and then less than a week later, he won the $5,000 6-max event for his first WSOP bracelet. He beat Men Nguyen after four hours of heads-up play, earning a well-deserved $667,443 for his hard work.
Papola has won over $1.5 million in live tournaments, and his online results are equally impressive. Across 7 different sites he has almost $2 million in cashes, including almost $1 million on both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. His largest online cash was back in 2009 when he won $107k in a $1k event on Full Tilt.
Alexander Wice has also had an impressive poker career thus far. He has over $600k in live cashes, including third in EPT Deauville earlier this year for $449,145. He has had great success online, as well. Currently ranked 755th on PocketFives, he has almost $1 million in cashes between three sites, and his biggest cash was $135k in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up back in 2008.
Several notable players made the money in the event, including PokerStars pros Jose Ignacio Barbero and Victor Ramdin, Greg Mueller, Erica Schoenberg, Mark Flowers, and Peter Jetten.
While Papola is the arguable favorite to win the event, he will face some extremely tough competition. The entire remaining field is packed with online MTT pros!
David Vamplew of Scotland recently won almost $1.5 million in a UKIPT event after beating John Juanda heads-up. Ryan Welch of the USA is currently ranked 249th on PocketFives, having cashed for over $3 million across six sites online. Anthony Spinella, another American, also has over $3 million in MTT cashes online, and he is currently ranked 56th on PocketFives.
I could talk all day about the remaining players in this field. It is truly stacked!
6-max is one of the most exciting forms of poker around, so Day 3 of this event is guaranteed to be extremely exciting. See below for the current chip stacks, and make sure to stay turned for the results of Event 10. In the meantime, check out the other WSOP coverage in Poker News!
